Emerging Churches Collection
Next weekend we will take up the
Collection for the Church in Central
and Eastern Europe. This collection
supports Catholic organizations that
provide affordable shelter and train seminarians in a
region that still struggles from the effects of Soviet
rule. By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and
funding for the building renovations, your donations
help to restore the Church and build the future in the
region. Please give generously to the collection next
week.
For more information, visit www.usccb.org &
search “Church in Central and Eastern Europe.”
The Sanctuary Candle is bur ning

for Edward O. Stephany
requested by wife, Arline.
In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus inviting his
disciples to be evangelizers. “The harvest is
abundant,” Jesus says. But those who are willing to
invite others to a deeper relationship with the Lord
are few. Good stewards who are willing to witness
their Catholic faith to others know they are “like
lambs among wolves.” They are encouraged to be
gentle, patient and loving, knowing they may face
rejection and even fierce opposition.
The Year of Mercy invites us to be better
stewards of our faith, to give positive, courageous,
joyful witness to others who have turned away
from their relationship with Jesus. Is there
someone we should be reaching out to this week?

Fr. Joe’s Week: Last Th ur sday, after Mass
and finishing up the bulletin, Len and Cheryl Quinn
from Webster paid us a visit. They were married here
50 years ago (by Fr. Ed Lintz) and wanted to make a
donation to the parish. We stopped over in church
for a visit and blessing…That afternoon I left for
Conneaut Lake, PA for a family reunion. We get
together every year for a golf tournament in memory
of my Uncle Jerry. It is to benefit the American
Cancer Society, and over the past 13 years we have
raised about $150,000. I played in the tournament
on Saturday, and played all 18 holes. Our foursome
won the prize for the highest score! Hey, a prize is a
prize. I had a great time, even though it was hot, but
a good day in the sun. I came back on Monday
evening…Tuesday I had a lot of stuff to do for the
Ireland trip. We are making final payments for our
trip. We are closed with 21 travelers, which will make
it like a private or family tour—the usual bus tours
have more than twice as many people on the bus. In
addition, nearly everybody is from around here…
Tuesday afternoon we had Mass at The Landing.
Thanks to several parishioners who joined us—it
makes a difference when there are folks from the
community as well. It’s a delightful time of worship…
Wednesday morning our new Youth Minister,
Bridget Arbegast, came into the office to fill out
paperwork. I was working in the office, so I got to
spend some time with her to begin her orientation to
both the parish and her new job. She also registered
her family into Nativity, as this will be her base for
the shared position with us and SEAS. If Bridget asks
you for help with our young people, please say “Yes.”
She will be responsible for ministry in grades 6-12,
but she can’t do it all herself! I told her to expect a
generous response. Parents, please support Bridget
with your young people, encourage them to
participate in our Youth Ministry…Wednesday
evening I went to a concert in Hilton. The Gazebo
Band, including our Don and Bridget Bishop, played
a mostly patriotic concert—interesting music well
done. After the concert I stopped at Abbot’s and saw
several parishioners. This Thursday morning, as
usual, I am finishing up my column and final bulletin
proofing…God bless and have a good week!

We are pleased to
announce that Bridget
Arbegast w ill be joining
our staff as Youth Minister.
She will start on July 11, and
her time will be shared with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in
Hamlin. She will spend about 10 hours a week here at
Nativity and be responsible for ministry to our young
people in grades 6 through 12, including Confirmation
Preparation. Please welcome Bridget and her family to
Nativity. We will introduce her at all the Masses after
she begins work.
Grace Adams starts th is w eek as dir ector of
our Contemporary Choir. Grace is no stranger to
Nativity as she led music programs here in years past.
Welcome back, Grace. Please take time to say “Hi” to
Grace and her family.
Come join us for a "Muckdogs"
baseball game in Batavia on Friday,
July 22. The game starts at 7:05 pm.
A block of box seats (at $7.00 each) have been set
aside for us. We need at least 20 people, so if you are
interested in going, please let Bob Duff know (at
506-1676 OR [email protected]) how many will be
in your group.
The stadium is located at 299 Bank Street. You can
check their website at: www.muckdogs.com.
We hope you will consider going to this fun parish
event!
Call to Nativity
On Monday, June 20th, the Parish Center Planning
Committee met with Bob Healy and Jerry DiRomanis
of LaBella. We were all impressed by their careful
listening to our dreams for the parish center. We had a
wide-ranging discussion, led by their questions. There
were no choices made—lots of possibilities examined.
It’s too early to have any specific ideas, but that time is
coming soon, in a month or so. This meeting convinced
all of us on the Planning Committee that we made an
excellent choice on the right people to help us. People
have told me that they “heard” that the parish center
was going to be here, or there. Everything has been
discussed, but no choices have been made. Bob and
Jerry will begin to make recommendations over the
next few months, and the committee will have ample
opportunity for input. Eventually we will have a
concept to present to the parish. Our next meeting with
LaBella is on July 25. Please pray for our Parish Center
Planning Committee, and the whole process.

Can You Watch One Hour
With Us???
If you cannot make the Holy Hour
during the day on Fridays, please join
us the last Thursday of each month
from 7-8 pm for the Nocturnal Adoration Holy Hour.
The hour begins with exposition of the Eucharist in
the Monstrance and ends with Benediction. During
that hour there are periods of common prayer and
periods of private, silent prayer. The common prayer is
from the “Liturgy of the Hours” known as the Office of
Blessed Sacrament. The silent prayer periods are for
personal Meditation.
Deacon James Steiger joins us each month to do the
Exposition at the start of the hour and Benediction at
the end of the hour.
Remember if you are looking for extra time to spend
with Our Lord and Savior, you may never find it. You
have to MAKE TIME FOR HIM! Please join us!
Heavenly Father,
you have given us the gifts of life and liberty
and entrust to your people the duty
to guard these gifts
wherever they are threatened.
Help us to protect the freedom of all
to follow the Gospel of your Son, Jesus Christ,
and to bring his light and truth
to the ends of the earth.
Guide all who play a role
in enacting legislation
to uphold the freedom of conscience
of all citizens.
Send us your Spirit to inspire in us
the wisdom and courage needed
to witness to the truth and to stand up
For all whose religious liberty is endangered.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
Mary Immaculate, Patroness
of our country, pray
for us.
