Living Rosary Pilgrimage
Next weekend the gifts of the bread and wine are
given in loving memory of Thomas Regan on his
3rd Anniversary from his loving family.
The community here at St. John the
Baptist, Peabody will be hosting the November Living Rosary Pilgrimage on, November
12th 2004 at 7PM. The evening begins with a procession with a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, then
the Rosary followed by the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass. Please come and join us as we pray for our
Church and ourselves in these most troublesome
times. Please bring your family and friends.
If you wish to make a memorial gift of bread and
wine or candles for Mass, or for the Blessed Sacrament candles, you can call Betty at the parish center.
NOVEMBER: MONTH OF ALL SOULS. You
are invited to bring a photo of a departed loved one
and place it on Mary’s Altar in the upper church
for the month of November. This is a way for us to
remember and pray for our departed loved ones.

Canned Goods Drive For Thanksgiving
Each person is a member of the Body of Christ,
and together we are the Church.
We will be collecting canned goods for our November Thanksgiving Baskets. These items can be
dropped off at the back of the church or the Parish
Center during the weekend of Nov. 13th and 14th.
Anyone in need of a Thanksgiving Basket this year

on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Gym. Pre – Registration is required for this parish family event. Registration forms can be found at the entrance of the Upper Church or Parish Center. A registration table will be available after each Mass this weekend. A donation of $ 5.00 per family is greatly appreciated at the time of registration.

We will gather together as a parish community in preparation of the celebration of the Feasts of All Saints and
All Souls to share in fellowship, fun, prayer and formation. For more information, call the Parish Center or
come to the registration table after Mass. We look forward to celebrating our belief that, “We are all called to
be Saints” and pray for our deceased loved ones who we
share with this call!
We are called to be sharers of our faith.
One of the ways we do that is to spread the
Gospel in any way that we can. If you know
of someone who is interested in learning more
about the Church and the teachings of our faith,
speak to them about our Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults.
We will be gathering a group of people who will be
preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the
coming year. You may be interested in learning
more or perhaps becoming part of the team of
those who assist others wishing to join the Church.

Collection for Retired Religious
Please remember in your prayers the retired religious Sisters who have served the Archdiocese of
Boston. The Collection for Retired Religious will
be held on the weekend of November 6-7 in all
parishes. Now in its 17th year, the collection provides support to 53 religious communities whose
members have served the Archdiocese of Boston.
Please give generously in recognition of the important role religious Sisters have had in developing
the ministries of education, health care and social
service in the Archdiocese of Boston. For more

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
St. John’s Thrift Store
Grandma’s Attic table WILL still be at
St. John’s Fair. The Thrift Shop will
also be open. For the convenience of
mother’s of St. John’s School children,
the Thrift Shop will add Thursday hours from
2:00PM to 4:00PM on a trial basis on November
18th, December 2nd and December 9th. The store
will be closed on Veteran’s Day, November 11th
and will close for the winter on December 11th.
Regular hours are Thursday’s 9am-12pm and Friday’s and Saturday’s from 9am-1pm.
On Friday November 5th, our First Friday
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held
from 7:30am to 12:45pm in the lower church.
You may sign up for a specified time. There
will be a sign up sheet in both the upper and
lower churches, or if you are in the area please
drop in and spend a few quite minutes with the
Lord. It will “MAKE YOUR DAY”.

A Letter from the Pastor
and the Parish Finance Council
October 29, 2004
Dear Parishioners:
Included in this week’s bulletin is the Parish annual statement of receipts
and expenses for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004.
The members of the Parish Finance Council join with our pastor, Fr. John,
in thanking those responsible for the increase in weekly offertory indicated
in the first section of the statement. The second section of the statement indicates that ordinary expenses
have been decreased for the second straight year. We are grateful to the Parish Staff and volunteers for
doing more with less.
Unfortunately, over the past two years, the parish has seen a decline in response to the Grand Annual Collection. In the third section of the statement, you will see a year-to-year decline of almost $12,000. We
ask for your assistance is reversing this trend by pledging a gift of at least $125. We understand that a
gift of this size is not possible for all the members of our Parish family and if that is true in your situation,
we ask that you still participate in this year’s Grand Annual Collection at a level that is comfortable for
you.
The fourth section of the statement indicates a sizable spike in improvements expenses, which were primarily the funds spent on the parking lot project. The Parish has several other worthy projects that will
require ongoing support from you. One such project is improvements and repairs to the steeple. The primary source of funds for these types of improvements is the Grand Annual Collection. Again, we thank
you in advance for being as generous as possible.

LADIES SODALITY
Archbishop O’Malley
To Visit Saint John’s!
The next meeting of St. John’s Ladies Sodality will
be held on Tuesday Evening, November 2nd , beginning with Mass at 7:00 pm in the lower church.
A brief business meeting will be held in the church
hall following the Mass. This month Henrietta
will be running a game of Bingo. All women of
the parish are invited to attend, and please bring a
friend. Refreshments will be served.
We are delighted to receive word that on December
12 of this year, Archbishop Sean O’Malley will
come to Saint John’s Parish to celebrate two
Masses: one in English at 9:30 AM and one in
Spanish at 12:30 PM. Following each Mass we invite all to a reception for the archbishop. Please put
it on your calendar!

El Evangelio (Lucas 19, 1-10) nos habla del encuentro misericordioso de
Jesús
con Zaqueo, cuando pasa por Jericó, camino de Jerusalén. La multitud debía llenar
la calle por donde pasaba el Maestro. Allí se encuentra también un hombre, que era
jefe de publícanos y rico, bien conocido por su cargo de recaudador de impuestos.
San Lucas nos dice que Zaqueo intentaba ver a Jesús para conocerle, pero no podía a
causa de la muchedumbre, porque era pequeño de estatura. Pero su deseo es eficaz;
deja a un lado los respetos humanos, lo que pudieran pensar las gentes al ver a un
hombre de su posición, y adelantándose corriendo, subió a un sicómoro, para verle,
porque iba a pasar por allí. Es ésta una formidable lección para nosotros que, por
encima de todo, queremos ver a Jesús y permanecer con Él. Hoy nos preguntamos:
¿Hago todo lo posible para ver al Señor? ¿Evitó el encuentro con Él? ¿Prefiero no verlo o que Él no me
vea? Si ya lo vislumbro, ¿prefiero verlo de lejos para no tener que aceptar toda la verdad que hay en Él?
Cualquier esfuerzo que hagamos por acercarnos a Cristo es largamente recompensado. Cuando Jesús llegó
al lugar, levantando la vista, le dijo: Zaqueo, baja pronto, porque conviene que hoy me hospede en tu casa.
¡Qué inmensa alegría! Bajó rápido y lo recibió con gozo. Experimentó la alegría singular de todo aquel
que se encuentra con Jesús. Zaqueo tiene al Maestro y con Él lo tiene todo. No se asusta que la acogida de
Cristo en su casa pudiese amenazar su carrera profesional. Muestra con sinceridad su nueva vida; se convierte en un discípulo más del Maestro: Señor, doy la mitad de mis bienes a los pobres y si he defraudado
a alguien le devolveré cuatro veces más. El encuentro con Cristo nos hace generosos con los demás.
Zaqueo comprendió que para seguir a Cristo es necesario el más completo desprendimiento. “Señor, pues
quisiste ser pobre, dame amor a la Santa Pobreza. Mi propósito, con tu ayuda, es vivir y morir pobre, aunque tenga millones a mi disposición”.
Esta parábola es una llamada a la esperanza: si alguna vez nos sintiéramos a oscuras y perdidos, hemos de
saber que Jesús, el Buen Pastor, saldrá enseguida a buscarnos. No dudemos nunca del Señor, de su bondad
y amor por los hombres, por muy extremas o difíciles que sean las condiciones en que nos encontremos
nosotros o aquellas personas que queremos llevar hasta Jesús. Su misericordia es siempre más grande que
nuestros pobres juicios.
Reflexión: ¿Hay algún Zaqueo aquí hoy? La lectura del evangelio nos presenta un personaje pintoresco: Zaqueo. Zaqueo es el nombre de dos personajes bíblicos. El mas conocido es el publicano o cobrador de impuestos de Jericó, el cual, por ser pequeño de estatura, se subió a un árbol, para ver a Jesús que llegaba a la ciudad a la ciudad. Luego
Jesús se hospedo en su casa (Lc 19, 1-10) el nombre Zaqueo es la forma abreviada de
Zacarías. Sabemos poco de este personaje. Según la leyenda fue discípulo de San Pedro.
Jesús, al llegar a aquel sitio, levanto los ojos y dijo: Zaqueo, baja en seguida, porque
hoy tengo que alojarme en tu casa. La sorpresa de Zaqueo y todo es grande; primero por
lo inesperada, después porque los publícanos eran rechazados por loa cumplimientos de
la ley, al considerarlos pecadores. A la sorpresa sigue la acción, y Zaqueo “bajo rápido y
lo recibió con gozo”. Zaqueo sorprendido piensa: “me tiene en cuenta, no me rechaza, es mi amigo, es
verdad lo que decían de él”, y el gozo de la amistad le va cercando a la conversión. Y, como tantas veces,
muchos critican, “al ver esto, todos murmuraban diciendo que había entrado a hospedarse en casa de
un pecador”. Zaqueo el publicano no hace caso a las criticas y Jesús tampoco. Están a gusto. Entonces
Zaqueo, de pie, dijo al Señor: Señor, doy la mitad de mis bienes a los pobres y si he defraudado en algo
a alguien le devuelvo cuatro veces más. Es la conversión de un hombre práctico y acostumbrado a los
juegos del dinero.
Oración: Señor, mírame como a Zaqueo y seré feliz.

CHILE: JÓVENES REAFIRMARON COMPROMISO CRISTIANO EN CONVIVIO 2004
Santiago de Chile, 22 (NE - eclesiales.org) Bajo el lema “Nos amó hasta el extremo” jóvenes chilenos de
diversos colegios de Santiago se reunieron para reflexionar sobre la vida cristiana en el congreso Convivio
2004. Más de 300 chicos y chicas participaron en esta segunda edición del congreso de estudiantes
católicos que se realiza en Santiago y que incluyó la presencia de una delegación de estudiantes peruanos.
Durante el encuentro, los jóvenes participantes reflexionaron acerca de los desafíos de la vida cristiana y se
comprometieron a seguir más de cerca al Señor Jesús en su vida cotidiana. Entre las actividades destacó
una obra teatral y musical en torno a la parábola del Hijo Pródigo, que congregó a más de 700 personas.
Convivio 2004 concluyó con una Misa presidida por el Nuncio Apostólico en Chile, Mons. Aldo Cavalli,
quien alentó a los chicos y chicas participantes a acercarse cada vez más a Cristo. Por su parte, los jóvenes
entregaron al Nuncio una imagen del Corazón de Jesús, simbolizando las más de 2500 visitas al Santísimo
realizadas por los estudiantes presentes en Convivio y ofrecidas por el Papa Juan Pablo II.
Por otro lado, el domingo por la mañana, numerosos participantes de Convivio fueron a un hogar de niños
necesitados a compartir con ellos y manifestar su solidaridad. Asimismo, durante el Convivio se realizó
una campaña solidaria con el fin de recolectar alimentos no perecibles para las personas más necesitadas.
La Eucaristía luz y vida del nuevo milenio
Desde el domingo 10 de octubre se está celebrando en la ciudad de Guadalajara, México, el XLVIII Congreso eucarístico internacional, la fiesta mundial de la Eucaristía, en la que toda la Iglesia se reúne para dar
gracias a Jesucristo, nuestro Señor, por el gran don de su Cuerpo y su Sangre, profundizar en el misterio
eucarístico, celebrarlo, adorarlo y renovar con entusiasmo su compromiso evangelizador en el mundo contemporáneo.
En todos los países del mundo se ha realizado una larga preparación remota, con actividades en las parroquias, especialmente con catequesis centradas en la Eucaristía como misterio pascual de Cristo, presente y
operante en su Iglesia. La preparación inmediata del Congreso fue el Simposio teológico-pastoral.

Consejo Pastoral de Finanzas

Estimados fieles:
En el boletín de ésta semana se encuentra el estado de cuenta anual de ingresos y egresos del año fiscal que
termina el 30 de Junio de 2004.
Los miembros del Consejo Pastoral de Finanzas se unen a nuestro párroco, Padre John para agradecer a todos los responsables por el incremento en la colecta semanal indicado en la primera sección del estado de
cuenta. La segunda sección del estado de cuenta indica que las expensas ordinarias han estado disminuyendo en lo que va del segundo año. Agradecemos a los empleados de la parroquia y voluntaries por
hacer más con menos.
Desafortunadamente, por los dos últimos años, la parroquia ha visto una disminución en su respuesta a la
GRAN COLECTA ANNUAL. En la tercera sección del estado de cuenta, podrán ver la disminución en
cerca de US $12,000.00. Les pedimos que nos ayuden a superar éste deficit con una donación de al menos
US$125.00. Sabemos que una donación de US$125.00 no es posible para todos los miembros de nuestra
comunidad parroquial pero les pedimos que nos ayuden con lo que ustedes generosamente puedan ayudarnos para la GRAN COLECTA ANNUAL.
La cuarta sección del estado de cuenta indica de manera considerable los gastos en las mejoras que han sido
primordialmente los fondos usados en el projecto del estacionamiento. La parroquia todavía tiene otros significativos proyectos que requerirán de su ayuda. Uno de esos proyectos es la reparación del techo de la

Hagámos de San Juan Bautista una
parroquia ejemplar! La Iglesia es un
lugar donde nos venímos a encontrarnos con Dios, en la oración y así poder servir al prójimo. Durante tu tiempo en la
Iglesia, conserva siempre el respeto por los que
están orando y deséan escuchar la Misa con atención. Pedimos su colaboración para no estar
platicando durante la Santa Misa, tener más control sobre los niños y no introducir alimentos, ni
goma de mascar en la Casa de Dios. ¡Hagámos
de San Juan Bautista una parroquia ejemplar!

A todos los interesados en aprender
Ingles gratuitamente por favor hablar con el Padre Agustín, después de
la Santa Misa. Esta es una oportunidad que debemos aprovechar.
Aprendiendo Ingles nos ayudara en nuestro trabajo y en la vida cotidiana. Si conoces a alguien
que esta interesado por favor de darle este mensaje. Maestra encargada Carolyn Kenney.
Si hay algún aviso importante que pueda darse
al final de la Misa, favor de enviarlo por escrito
al buzón (mail box) del padre Agustín a más
tardar el viernes previo al domingo que se hará
a conocer al final de la Misa.
