Dear Parishioners:
Our Lenten Season begins on Ash Wednesday,
February 18th. Our Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule
is as follows:
7:30am
12:15pm
7:00pm Bilingual Mass.
Ashes will be distributed at all three Masses.
Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation but is
a day of Fast & Abstinence. Catholics between the
ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat
on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays
of Lent.
In order to offer our parishioners and those living
and working nearby additional opportunities for attending weekday Mass and availing themselves of the
Sacrament of Confession; beginning on Monday,
February 23rd, I will be hearing confessions
Monday thru Friday from 11:30am – 12:00pm
and offering a short lunchtime Mass in the
church at 12:15pm.
The Friday Station of the Cross Devotion or Way of
the Cross (Via Crucis) has long been a Catholic tradition especially during the season of Lent. You are invited to participate in this traditional Lenten devotional in the church on all Friday’s of Lent; 6:30pm in
English and 7:00pm in Spanish.
There has been a long tradition here at St. Joseph’s
to distribute small bags on the first weekend of Lent.
Please take one home today; fill it with your donations during Lent and return it to the collection on
Easter. All proceeds go to help the Presentation Sisters Medical Mission in Guatemala.

FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
The entire history of the Jewish people is directed
toward one goal: that God might be glorified through
the chosen people. Christians, too, are called to “do
everything for the glory of God.” In today’s scriptures
Paul reminds us that the best way for us to glorify
God is to seek to benefit “the many,” as Christ did
when he shed his blood for all of humankind.
The reading from Leviticus explains one way the
Jews sought to benefit the many, by keeping lepers
and leprosy away from the chosen people. Jesus finds
a better way. He cures the leper, who immediately
re‑enters the community to spread the good news
about Jesus to everyone who will listen. In this way
both Jesus and the leper fulfill their calling to glorify
the God who fills us “with the joy of salvation.”

Estimados feligreses,
Nuestra temporada de cuaresma comienza el Miércoles de Ceniza, 18 de febrero. Este es el horario para
el Miércoles de Ceniza:
Misas en ingles: 7:30 a.m. y 12:15 p.m.
Misa bilingüe: 7:00 p.m.
Las cenizas se repartirán durante las tres misas.
El Miércoles de Ceniza no es un Día de Obligación pero si es un día de abstinencia y ayuno. Católicos entre
las edades de 18 y 59 están obligados a ayunar el
miércoles de Ceniza y también el Viernes Santo. Además, todos los católicos de 14 años para arriba deberán de no comer carne el Miércoles de Ceniza, Viernes
Santo, y todos los viernes durante la cuaresma.
Para dar la oportunidad a los que trabajan y viven
cerca, comenzando el lunes, 23 de febrero vamos
a agregar confesiones de 11:30 a.m.-12 mediodía seguida por la Santa Misa a las 12:15 p.m.
Esta oportunidad será de lunes a viernes.
Las Vía Crucis han sido una larga tradición en nuestra
práctica devocional durante la cuaresma. Están cordialmente invitados a participar en hacer Las Estaciones de La Cruz los viernes durante la cuaresma;
en ingles serán a las 6:30 p.m. y en español a las
7:00 p.m.
Nuevo horario de los sábados para las confesiones
y misa de vigilia, comenzando el sábado, 21 de
febrero

Oportunidades adicionales para confesiones;

Hay otra tradición que observamos en San José Obrero y eso es de distribuir las bolsitas de limosna durante la primera semana de cuaresma. Por favor lleven
una bolsita y llénenla durante la cuaresma con su
donación. Las bolsitas se devuelven el domingo de
Pascuas. Todo ese dinero se entrega a las Hermanas
de Presentación para la Misión Medica que mantienen
en Guatemala.

PARA LA GLORIA DE DIOS
La historia completa del pueblo judío va dirigida
hacia una meta: que Dios sea glorificado por medio
del pueblo escogido. Los cristianos también están
llamados a “hacer todo para la gloria de Dios”. En las
Escrituras de hoy Pablo nos recuerda que la mejor
manera que tenemos para glorificar a Dios es buscar
el beneficio de “todos” tal como Cristo hizo cuando
derramó su sangre por toda la humanidad.
La lectura de Levítico explica una manera en que
los judíos buscaban el beneficio de muchos, manteniendo a los leprosos y la lepra alejados del pueblo escogido. Jesús encuentra una manera mejor: cura al
leproso, que inmediatamente retorna a la comunidad
para difundir la Buena Nueva de Jesús a todo el que le
escuche. De este modo tanto Jesús como el leproso
cumplen con su llamado de glorificar al Dios que nos
