THE SACRED MARRIAGE
J
esus gives his interpretation of the law
of Moses on divorce, specifically
whether it is lawful for a husband to
divorce his wife. Notice the question
concerns a man’s right. In the ancient Near
East, women had no rights by law. Some
rabbis held very stringent norms; others
allowed for divorce over even trivial
matters. Jesus goes back to the book of Genesis (first
reading), held as God’s law given directly to Moses. He
accepts that the Creator made man and woman to enter
into a true union of mind and heart, the two becoming
one. Here the woman was equal to the man, not
subordinate. The ideal upheld is the marriage is a holy
union, designed as such by God. Our faith calls us to see it
as a commitment to a union that is loving and life-giving.
Even in his day, Jesus was being counter-cultural in
speaking of God’s plan for marriage as a lasting union. This
high regard extends also to the children, who were
considered property. But Jesus proposes them as our
instructors in receiving God’s kingdom.
How do you demonstrate that marriage is a sacred
commitment and children are a sacred trust?

Pero Jesús nos presenta a los niños como nuestros instructores
en recibir el Reino de Dios.

HELP WANTED: BILINGUAL CHILDCARE VOLUNTEERS
St. Francis of Assisi is starting a new English Literacy Ministry
to serve the needs of the local community. Classes begin later
this month and will meet on Monday mornings. We are in
need of at least 2 bilingual (English/Spanish) parishioners to
assist with childcare during the class sessions. For more

ART & ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY
Do you have a keen eye for floral arrangements, a
green thumb, or an artistic eye?! If you do, we
need you! St. Francis is starting up the Art &
Environment Ministry again! The ministry creates
seasonal decorations that help to set the mood for
the liturgical seasons. The atmosphere of
reverence and beauty all reflect the glory of God
whether in the beauty of a flower arrangement,
the care of a plant, or images and signs of the
paschal mystery. No experience is needed,
however, knowledge of floral design is an asset to
the ministry. The time commitment is about 2 to 3
hours a few times a year, depending on the
celebration. Time of day and day of the week can
be flexible.

¿Tiene un buen ojo para los arreglos florales o un
ojo artístico?! ¡Si es así, te necesitamos! La
parroquia San Francisco está reiniciando el
Ministerio de Arte y Medio Ambiente. El
ministerio crea decoraciones de temporada que
ayudan a crear el ambiente para los tiempos
litúrgicos. El ambiente de reverencia y belleza
refleja la gloria de Dios, ya sea en la belleza de un
arreglo floral, el cuidado de una planta, o en las
imágenes y símbolos del misterio pascual. No se
necesita experiencia, aunque, el conocimiento de
diseño floral brindaría una gran ayuda a este
ministerio. El compromiso de tiempo es de
aproximadamente 2 a 3 horas un par de veces al

DOCUMENTAL: “LAS RELIGIONES DEL MUNDO”

What does the Catholic Church teach us about other
religions? “Religions of the World” is a special film and
discussion series that will offer a view of life and worship
in each of the world’s major religions. Narrated by
Academy Award winning actor Ben Kingsley, this series
objectively documents Judaism, Islam, Hinduism,
Buddhism, Catholicism, and Protestantism worldwide with
interviews from experts. Explore issues that probe the
very core of our existence and gain new understanding
about humanity. Travel to exotic locations and observe
how religions have shaped cultures, changed history,
brought us closer together and thrust us into war.
Includes Spanish language track.
There is no registration fee. But donations are
appreciated! You are welcome to attend as many of the
sessions as possible.

ADULT HAND BELL CHOIR
Are you interested in being in a Hand Bell Choir?! You’re in luck! St. Francis is
seeking people interested in starting up a Hand Bell Choir. The Bell Choir is open
to anyone interested in playing the Hand Bells during the English Masses.
Membership to this group is open to anyone in the parish age 16 and up. Some
music reading or Hand Bell experience is recommended, but not required. The
Bell Choir will rehearse seasonally on Tuesday evenings. We will play for the
Christmas and Easter season Masses. To be able to fully execute music, we will
need at least 6 to 8 people. For more information concerning this please contact

Los Coros de San Francisco están buscando personas interesadas en comenzar
un Coro de Campanas Manuales. La membresía a este grupo está abierto a

Join us in praying the Rosary Tuesdays at 1:30 pm.
The word Rosary means “Crown of Roses”. Our Lady has
revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail
Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each
complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The Holy
Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lies
the awesome story of our salvation.

JOYFUL AGAIN RETREAT
Joyful Again is a nationally recognized retreat and is
sponsored through The Diocese of Orlando, Office of Family
Life and Pastoral Care. It provides the widowed with support
from others who understand the loss associated with the
death of a spouse. It is a two-day retreat for widows and
widowers who want to resolve the grief they feel inside and
begin to live again after the death of their spouse. It will be
held at the San Pedro Retreat Center in Winter Park from
October 31 - November 1, 2015. For information contact

“Joyful Again” es un retiro reconocido a nivel nacional y es
patrocinado a través de la Diócesis de Orlando. Es un retiro
de dos días para las viudas y viudos que quieren resolver el
dolor que sienten por dentro y empezar a vivir de nuevo
después de la muerte de su cónyuge. Se llevará a cabo en el
Centro de Retiros de San Pedro en Winter Park del 31 de
