Dear Friends,
I share with you this Easter Reflection:
People long for “a sure thing,” concrete proof that they can see and touch. The healing of the sick, as
in today’s reading from Acts, is surely concrete proof of divine action. But just as Jesus, when he
healed the sick, wanted people to see more than the immediate healing of ailments, so, too, Peter and
the apostles are given the gift of healing the sick to lead the people to God. There is more to illness
than the body; Peter and the apostles, and indeed all in ministry today, are charged with the healing
of souls. That’s where we must make a leap of faith, because we can’t see or touch the healing of
souls, but we must know it in our hearts. We do not see, yet we must believe.
The second reading, from Revelation, draws on many images that resonate with those familiar with
the Hebrew scriptures. The author has a vision of heaven, a vision given only to him, and he is
commanded to testify to Jesus Christ, the risen Lord who now dwells in heaven, who has conquered
death and sin for all time. We are called in faith to believe his testimony. We do not see, yet we must
believe.
John’s Gospel today places us with the disciples, behind a locked door, hiding, whimpering, fearful.
Yet Jesus Christ comes to us, because Jesus knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows that
we have the ability to spread the word of salvation, to be the church of Christ on earth. So he comes
and bestows on us the great power of the Holy Spirit, the power that will build the church, the power
that will spread the word. But not everyone was there, not everyone believes. Thomas needs more;
he needs concrete proof. So Jesus comes back, because Thomas needs to see him. Jesus loves Thomas, and invites him to deepen his faith. So, too, Jesus Christ invites all of us to a deeper faith. Some
of us may need miracles or signs and wonders to believe. But many of us have been given the gift of
faith without the need to see for ourselves. Let us help each other come to deeper faith in the
resurrected Lord.

Second Sunday of Easter or Sunday of Divine Mercy
Last year on this Sunday, Pope Francis declared this year a
Jubilee Year of Mercy. Saint John Paul II named the Second
Sunday of Easter “Sunday of Divine Mercy” in response to
Saint Faustina Kowalska’s Divine Mercy devotion, which
offered spiritual comfort to hearts worldwide. But Francis
challenges us to make that comfort we receive a gift we
gladly share: “We are called to show mercy because mercy
has first been shown to us.” The clearest expression of
merciful love, says Francis, is pardoning others. “At times
how hard it seems to forgive!” he acknowledges. “And yet
pardon is the instrument placed into our fragile hands to
attain serenity of heart” (Misericordiae Vultus, 9). The
necessary condition for living joyfully? “To let go of anger,
wrath, violence, and revenge.” May Divine Mercy Sunday
in this Jubilee Year of Mercy remind us that Jesus made
mercy our life’s ideal and a criterion for our faith’s
credibility: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown
mercy” (Matthew 5:7).

Queridos Amigos,
La gente ansía “algo seguro”, pruebas concretas que puedan ver y tocar. La
curación de un enfermo, como en la lectura de hoy de los Hechos, es ciertamente una
prueba concreta de la acción divina. Pero así como Jesús, al sanar a un enfermo, quería
que la gente viera más allá de la curación física, también Pedro y los apóstoles reciben el
don de curar para que la gente se acerque a Dios. La enfermedad va más allá del cuerpo;
Pedro y los apóstoles, y de hecho todas las personas que están hoy en algún ministerio,
tienen a su cargo curar las almas. Y ahí es donde debemos dar un salto de fe, porque no
podemos ver ni tocar cuando se trata de curar las almas, pero nuestro corazón asiente y
sabe lo que ha sucedido. No podemos ver, pero debemos creer.
En la segunda lectura, tomada del Apocalipsis, aparecen muchas imágenes que les son
conocidas a aquéllos familiarizados con las Escrituras hebreas. El autor tiene una visión
del cielo, visión que sólo él ve, y se le ordena dar testimonio de Jesucristo, el Señor
resucitado, que vive en el cielo y que ha vencido la muerte y el pecado para siempre.
Estamos llamados por fe a creer en su testimonio. No podemos ver, pero debemos creer.
El Evangelio de hoy según san Juan nos lleva junto a los discípulos, escondidos tras
puertas cerradas con llave, gimiendo y llenos de temor. Pero aun así Jesús viene a
nosotros, porque nos conoce mejor que nosotros mismos. Sabe que tenemos la capacidad
de difundir la palabra de salvación, de ser la iglesia de Cristo en la tierra. Por eso viene y
nos otorga el gran poder del Espíritu Santo, el poder que edificará la Iglesia, el poder
que difundirá la palabra. Pero no todos estaban allí. No todos creen. Tomás necesita más;
quiere pruebas concretas. Por eso Jesús regresa de nuevo, porque Tomás necesitaba
verlo. Jesús amaba a Tomás, y lo invita a aumentar su fe. Así también Jesucristo nos
invita a todos nosotros a aumentar nuestra fe. Algunos quizás necesitamos milagros y
signos, o aun portentos para creer. Pero muchos hemos recibido el don de la fe sin
necesidad de ver con nuestros propios ojos. Ayudémonos unos a otros a profundizar
nuestra fe en el Señor resucitado.

su trabajo en hacer una celebración especial de Pascua aquí en San Juan. Todos
hicieron un maravilloso trabajo. Tuvimos una gran asistencia en todas las Misas de
Pascua. Desde el fondo de mi corazón, gracias por su generosidad por la colecta
recibida. Todo refleja la bondad y generosidad de los feligreses de San Juan.

FIESTA DE LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA, SEGUNDO DOMINGO DE PASCUA
El Señor ha resucitado, ¡ Aleluya!,¡ Aleluya!
Estamos en el corazón del "Jubileo de la Misericordia". Los recuerdos de la
Semana Santa aún están frescos en nuestra memoria. En este fin de semana el
evangelio nos muestra a Jesús envía que dando el Espíritu Santo a sus discípulos. Este don le permitirá perdonar los pecados. El perdón de Dios se derrama en abundancia.
Celebrar la misericordia de Dios es algo más que venerar una imagen, es celebrar que Dios es
un Padre con entrañas que quiere a sus hijos. Me sorprende que algunas personas sean muy
devotas de la misericordia divina y luego condenen a todos o tengan miedo al castigo de Dios.
"La misericordia es un camino que comienza con una conversión espiritual, y todos estamos
llamados a recorrer este camino", ha dicho el Papa Francisco.
Los frutos de la resurrección son la alegría, la paz y el testimonio de vida. ¿Se
nota la alegría en nuestra vida y en nuestras celebraciones? Hay muchos niños y jóvenes que
no se sienten atraídos por nuestra forma de celebrar rutinaria y triste. Sin embargo, hay muchas comunidades que saben vivir el gozo de la experiencia pascual, que celebraron con entusiasmo la Vigilia Pascual sin mirar al reloj. Ahí se nota que hay algo más que un mero cumplimiento del precepto dominical.
¿Cómo dar testimonio de nuestra fe en el mundo de hoy? No bastan las palabras, es nuestra propia vida el mejor testimonio.
Si has tenido un encuentro personal con Cristo Resucitado, se notará en tu cara, en tus comentarios, en tus gestos, en tu forma de ser. Si eres feliz, transmitirás felicidad. Si tienes paz en tu corazón, transmitirás esa paz a las personas que se acerquen a ti. Si eres alegre, transmitirás la alegría a los que se acerquen a ti. Y quien te vea dirá: "merece la pena seguir a Jesús
de Nazaret".

Segundo Domingo de Pascua o Domingo de
la Divina Misericordia
El año pasado en este domingo, el Papa Francisco anunció
este año como Año Jubilar de la Misericordia. San Juan
Pablo II nombró al Segundo Domingo de Pascua
“Domingo de la Divina Misericordia” en respuesta a la
devoción de la Divina Misericordia de santa Faustina
Kowalska que ofrece consuelo espiritual a los corazones en
todo el mundo. Pero el Papa Francisco nos desafía a hacer
que el consuelo que recibimos como don lo compartamos
con alegría “se nos llama a mostrar misericordia porque la
misericordia primero se nos mostró a nosotros”. La
expresión más clara del amor misericordioso, dice el Papa
Francisco, es perdonando a quienes nos ofende. “¡Algunas
veces parece difícil perdonar!” él lo reconoce. “Sin
embargo, el perdón es el instrumento que está en nuestras
manos frágiles para tener un corazón sereno”. ¿Cuál es la
condición necesaria de un amor jubiloso? “Dejar de ir al
rencor, la ira, el coraje, la violencia, la venganza.” Que el
Domingo de la Divina Misericordia este Año Jubilar de la
Misericordia nos recuerde que Jesús hizo misericordioso
nuestro ideal de vida y discernimiento para nuestra fe.
“Dichosos los misericordiosos, por que ellos mostraran
misericordia” (Mateo 5:7).
