Matthew 12: 47 [Someone told
him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing
outside, asking to speak with you.”] 48 But he said
in reply to the one who told him, “Who is my
mother? Who are my brothers?”49 And stretching
out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here
are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever
does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother,
and sister, and mother.” (Mk 3:31–35; Lk 8:19–
21.) Luke 23:49 … all his acquaintances stood
at a distance, including the women … ><> Jesus
never disowned his relatives. He praised that his
mother did the will of God, and every one can do
it. It is fascinating that none of the evangelists
mentioned that Jesus referred any one as biological
brother or sister. Even when he was disappeared
several days, Mary and Joseph looked for him
among their relatives and acquaintances Lk.2:44.
“Son, why have you done this to us? Your
father and I have been looking for you
with great anxiety.” [48]

Mateo 12, 47 Alguien le dijo: —Tu madre y
tus hermanos están afuera y quieren hablar
contigo. 48—¿Quién es mi madre, y quiénes
son mis hermanos? —replicó Jesús. 49
Señalando a sus discípulos, añadió: —Aquí
tienen a mi
madre y a mis
hermanos. 50
Pues mi
hermano, mi
hermana y mi
madre son los
que hacen la
voluntad de mi
Padre que está
en el cielo. (Mc
3:31–35; Lc
8:19–21.)
Lucas
parientes y conocidos Lc.2,44. «Hijo, ¿por qué
nos has hecho esto? Mira, tu padre y yo,
angustiados, te andábamos
buscando.» [48]

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The Second Vatican Council decreed that the
devotional life of the Church should be examined and
reformed with an eye towards expressing Easter faith.
This encouragement for creativity has deep roots in our
tradition, and some attempts at reform show great
promise. One of the great treasures in our devotional
repertoire is a familiar feature of Lent: the Way of the
Cross. The faithful walk a path recalling the events of
Christ’s passion, a contemplative experience
increasingly enriched these days by scripture and song.
There are fourteen stations in the usual configuration,
although in recent years, a fifteenth station of the
Empty Tomb has been added. Why stop there? Why
not develop a similar journey structured on the theme
of the appearances of the Risen Lord?
Over the last decade, a V ia Lucis, or “Way of
Light,” has developed as a companion to the V ia
Crucis. It has been celebrated at the Vatican and is
catching on elsewhere. There are fourteen stations,
beginning with the Women Carrying Spices to the
Tomb, continuing with the familiar appearances of the
Lord at Emmaus, the Upper Room, the shore of
Tiberias. The journey ends with stations recalling the
Apostles’ wait with Mary for the advent of the Spirit,
and with Pentecost. This is fertile ground indeed for
the genius of artists, musicians, preachers, and
liturgists. This is a living example of how many of our
traditions are born to fill a great spiritual need, and
spread to every corner of the Church. It may even
come soon to a church near you. Maybe next
Eastertime!

REVISITING OUR BAPTISM
A mere seven weeks ago thousands of new Church
members were baptized. Their new life in Christ has once
again infused new life into the Church. Their new-found
faith has inspired and bolstered the faith of those who
have followed Christ for many years. As the Easter season
nears its end, we revisit the scene of our baptisms. In the
second reading we hear Christ calling us: “Come. . . . Let .
. . the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving
water” (Revelation 22:17).
But our baptism is not one of water only. John refers
to washed robes, and we know that this washing is to be
“in the blood of the Lamb.” To make sure we get this
message, we have today’s first reading from Acts. It is the
story of Stephen, the first Christian to be killed for his
faith in Jesus. We remember the promise and also the cost
of being a disciple of Christ.

Lunes:
RECORDAMOS NUESTRO BAUTISMO
