Doscher, Editor http://www.facebook.com/strosalie Second Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Rosalie’s Bulletin www.saintrosalie.com Page 3 From The Pastor’s Desk SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME In today’s gospel from the second chapter of St. John, we hear about the first of Jesus’ miracles at The Wedding at Cana, His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” JOHN 2:5 Mary is confident that Jesus will do what is needed to “save the day”. Mary who had given her “FIAT,” her YES to cooperating with salvation history by accepting her role as mother of our Savior- again knows in her heart that Jesus will take action. This first miracle opens up a beautiful insight on the Blessed Mother’s keen awareness of Jesus special role. Probably she did not yet fully understand his mission, but she knew he was a special person. We might say that Mary’s understanding of her son began to clarify itself little by little, more and more from the moment of this first miracle of Our Lord. Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him JOHN 2:11 This is the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus! How telling is the fact that it is Mary, His mother who in a very real way paves the way for Jesus to begin to proclaim the kingdom of God. What a great model and example for all of us is Mary, who shows us the way to and through Jesus Christ to the Father inspired and illuminated by the Holy Spirit! As we enter more fully into 2016, we invite all parishioners to Belong More Deeply in our parish-its ministries-our parish life! Upcoming Dates include: February 9 Mardi Gras sponsored by Family Ministry February 10-Ash Wednesday-Beginning of Lent 2016 February 15 President’s Day Holiday March 12 Pre-Cana Session here at St. Rosalie’s March 19-8 a.m. Mass and St. Patrick’s Day Parade later in the morning March 19 and 20 Palm Sunday Liturgies/Beginning of Holy Week March 20 Re-Opening of St. Rosalie’s, East Quogue March 24-25-26 Easter Triduum March 27: Easter Sunday 2016 FAITH FOOD FUN By Popular demand, we will bring back these dinner-discussion meetings, as we did last year. From the Business Manager It has come to my attention that many of our parishioners who use the weekly and diocesan collection envelopes fail to write the amount of their donation on their envelope. Our counters try to spot those envelopes with incomplete information and write it on them but a few always seem to get by. This leads to inaccurate recording of your donations, which many of you count on to use for your annual income tax Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 5 HAPPENINGS THIS WEEK at a glance Sunday, January 17 Hospitality after all Masses – Fellowship Room Monday, January 18 Parish Center Offices Closed Tuesday, January 19 Miraculous Medal Novena 8:30 a.m. – Church Upper Room Prayer 9 a.m. – Fellowship Room ESL 9:30 a.m. – Parish Center Baptism Class 7 p.m. – Parish Center Wednesday, January 20 Exposition of Blessed Sacrament 8:30-11:45 a.m. Little Rock Scripture Study 10 a.m. – Fellowship Room Benediction 11:45 a.m. – Church Adult Choir 7 p.m. – Church Charismatic Prayer Group 7 p.m. – Fellowship Room Thursday, January 21 ESL 9:30 a.m. – Parish Center Friday, January 22 Divine Mercy Chaplet 12:30 p.m. – Church Sunday, January 24 RCIA 9:30 a.m. – Parish Center Baptisms 2 p.m. – Church returns. Ministry to the Homebound St. Rosalie’s is blessed to have a group of men and women whose ministry is to bring the Eucharist to those who cannot join us each week at Liturgy. These ministers enjoy the company of others while serving the Lord in this ministry. Do you know anyone who would like to receive Jesus on a weekly basis but cannot physically come to church? Please ask them to call Catherine Andrejack at the Parish Center 631-7289461 to arrange for a Homebound Minister to visit them. From the Vatican, 1 September 2015 It is indeed my wish that the Jubilee be a living experience of the closeness of the Father, whose tenderness is almost tangible, so that the faith of every believer may be strengthened and thus testimony to it be ever more effective. I wish that the Jubilee Indulgence may reach each one as a genuine experience of God’s mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father who welcomes and forgives, forgetting completely the sin committed. It is important that this moment be linked, first and foremost, to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with a reflection on mercy. It will be necessary to accompany these celebrations with the profession of faith and prayer for me and for the intentions that I bear in my heart for the good of the Church and the entire world. I have asked the Church in this Jubilee Year to rediscover the richness encompassed by the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Each time that one of the faithful personally performs one or more of these actions, he or she shall surely obtain the Jubilee Indulgence. The Jubilee Indulgence can also be obtained for the deceased. Thus, as we remember them in the Eucharistic celebration, thus we can, in the great mystery of the Communion of Saints, pray for them, that the merciful Face of the Father free them of every remnant of fault and strongly embrace them in the unending beatitude. The forgiveness of God cannot be denied to one who has repented, especially when that person approaches the Sacrament of Confession with a sincere heart in order to obtain reconciliation with the Father.
