Dear friends,
Congratulations!
We did it. We just crossed
over the $380,000 goal so
that the parish can purchase the house on
Pride Street. I am so grateful to all of you
who were able to donate. The Archdiocesan
Real Estate Office is taking care of the
transaction as I write this pastor’s letter. We
should be able to take possession of the
home in late June.
If you still can donate to this cause, I would
appreciate your generosity because we still
will need more money to: 1) clean up the
house; 2) have an architect design an
addition to the house to accommodate the
priests who will be living there; and 3) build
the addition. All that will be in the future
as soon as we can raise the additional
money. But we could do none of the above
if we hadn’t raised the money to purchase
the house.
I am so proud of you that we were able to
accomplish this goal in such a short time.
I truly am so blessed to be your pastor.
May God bless you!
Gratefully yours in Christ,
Fr. Joseph Shea
RETIREMENT FUND FOR
ARCHDIOCESAN PRIESTS
June 11th & 12th
Priests are selfless sources of inspiration,
wisdom and comfort who dedicate their
lives to guiding us through daily sacraments
as well as life's most extraordinary events.
From the joyous celebrations of baptism
and marriage through anointing the sick
and mourning our losses, they stand beside
us. With minimal compensation and little
or no pension, they often retire with nothing
to fall back on. What better way to offer
thanks and gratitude to those who have
given so much to us and continue to serve
our communities long after their
administrative duties are fulfilled. Let us
make a little sacrifice and show them how
much we appreciate the sacrifices they have
made by contributing to the Retirement
Fund for our Archdiocesan Priests
Retirement Fund. Thank you for your
support.
All are welcome.
We welcome all new parishioners and are thankful God
has sent you to us.
No matter what your present status is in the Catholic Church,
No matter what your current family or marital situation,
No matter what your past or present religious affiliation,
No matter your personal history, age, background, race, etc.,
No matter what your self-image or esteem.
You are invited, welcomed, accepted, loved and respected at
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Community.

HOPE AND LIFE
Today’s readings tell the stor of t o widows. The first reading relates the plight of the widow with whom the prophet Elijah stayed; the Gospel tells about the widow of
Nain. In each stor , the widow’s only son had died. For people who lived in those cult res, the son was the only suppor of a widow, and the car ing on of the family name by
the son was equal to immor alit . A widow whose only son has died could lose all hope.
Elijah and Jesus are the restorers of hope; they bring the sons back to life. Saint Paul was metaphorically raised om the dead when he ex erienced the conversion and
call om God that he describes in today’s second reading.
What are Christians called to do today? We may not be able to raise the dead, but perhaps we can rekindle hope for a single parent. We may not be able to conver a
persecutor like Paul, but if we speak the gospel openly and gently with our lives, we might touch a life with the Good News. Copy ight © J. S. Paluch Co.

Implement safety rules for kids going
to summer camp
Summer camp is a time-honored tradition for kids.
Whether it’s an all-day camp or cabin sleepaway, kids
can get out of the house, learn new skills, and make
friends. Parents who send their kids off to camp should
be sure to research the camp and the counselors who
will be watching their kids. If your child is going to
sleep-away camp, check in by phone or mail regularly.
Ask questions and ensure that your child is safe and
cared for at any camp. For a copy of the VIRTUS®
article “Summer Camp Preparation” email jvienna@la
-archdiocese.org or call (213) 637-7227.

Aquí no

Poco a
