Jubilee Year of Mercy
The third Corporal Work of Mercy is “shelter the
homeless.” There are many circumstances that could
lead to someone becoming a person without a
home. Christ encourages us to go out and meet those
without homes, affirming their worth and helping
them seek a resolution to the challenges they face.
 Volunteer some time to a local homeless shelter.

homes for those who need shelter.

wrote the words we hear today. How, for four hundred
years, they must have filled the hearts of the people of Israel with hope for the day when God’s glory would shine on
them. How deceived some must have felt when the glory
of God came to them in the lowliest and humblest of human lives.
We have many expectations about how the divine presence will appear among us. But we can also set ourselves
up, through these expectations, to miss the divine glory
when it truly appears. We get caught up in looking for the
star, forgetting that the star is not the divine sign, the babe
is. It may take a persistent journey for us to come upon the
true appearance of God’s glory in our lives: Jesus Christ.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS—
COURT ST. JOAN OF ARC # 2471
The Women's Spirituality Group will not
meet in January, due to the holidays. We
will meet next on Saturday, February
6th. More details will follow in January.
WHO DONE IT???
Weekly Reflection—The Catholic Daughters
is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. We work both in our parish
and in our community to live our motto, In Unity and
Charity. We undertake many service projects and fundraisers throughout the year and would like to take this
space in our bulletin to tell you a little more about who
we are and what we do.
We would like to announce a very exciting development in CDA. In 1956, Archbishop Fulton Sheen, said,
“You are the Catholic Daughters of America. I would
like to see you become Catholic Daughters of the
World.” We are extremely happy to announce that
on Tuesday, December the 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, National Regent Shirley Seyfried, and
National Regent-Elect Helene Shepard traveled to Africa and Court St. Monica # 2706 was instituted in Kenya
with 60 women in attendance and many more who
want to join but could not come that day because they
were working. A priest in Kenya, Father Peter, Sons of
Divine Providence, had seen them on EWTN talking
about Catholic Daughters on the Church Universal program and he called and asked them to come to Kenya
to start a Catholic Daughters court there.
Was it the butler, or could it be the
cockney maid, or even Father Timothy?

TAIZE PRAYER
SERVICE
Taizé is meditative prayer,
a mixture of song, silence, and scripture. Gathered in the presence of Christ,
we sing uncomplicated repetitive songs,
uncluttered by too many
words...allowing the mystery of God to
become tangible through the beauty of
simplicity. Join us at the Parish of St.
Eugene as we gather January 8th (this
month is the second Friday because the
first Friday is Jan.1st) from 7:00 8:00pm in the All Saints chapel. Call
Megan, 285-0838 or Janet, 251-5513 for
more details.
Young at Hearts will meet following Noon Mass on Wednesday, January
13 at Yao’s Restaurant at Ingles Plaza on Smokey Park Highway.
Please join us as we bring in the New Year with fellowship, food, and fun!

Prayer of Pope Francis for the Jubilee
Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being
enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only
in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words
that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord
risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be
clothed in weakness
in order that they may feel compassion for
those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them feel sought
after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its
anointing,
so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from
the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring
good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of
Mary, Mother of
Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and
ever.
As we settle down after our holiday celebrations
and return to our normal daily routine let us not
forget those less fortunate than us who face hunger every day. Many families that are struggling
with a member with HIV/AIDS or in Home Hospice often must choose between purchasing food
and medication. Loving Food Resources helps
relieve that stress by offering healthy food packages for those in need.
Please help Loving Food Resources continue to
provide this relief by generously contributing non
-perishable food items to our monthly collection
on January 16 & 17. Food may be left in the baskets in the Narthex before or after each Mass on
those days. Thank you for sharing your treasure
with those less fortunate members of our community. St. Joan of Arc donated 281 pounds of
non-perishable food items for the months of December.
