In his 2013 apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis wrote, “Church institutions, basic communities and small communities, movements, and forms of association are a source of enrichment for the Church, raised up by the Spirit for evangelizing different areas and sectors. Frequently they bring a new evangelizing fervor and a new capacity for dialogue with the world whereby the Church is renewed. But it will prove beneficial for them not to lose contact with the rich reality of the local parish and to participate readily in the overall pastoral activity of the particular Church” Inspired by this model, today’s SFC’s define themselves as established communities of Catholics who gather regularly for the purpose of linking faith and life using the Word, sharing and actively living out their faith in involvement to the parish and the greater community. The name can vary they can be called Small Christian Communities (SCC) or Home-based communities (HBC) - but the core identity is community. SFC members are finding a way to become responsible for their own spiritual growth. The Why Catholic program was implemented by the Archdiocese of Miami in our parish in February 2014. The first meeting of our 15 members took place on Wednesday, February 26th. It is a four year program. As stated in 1 Timothy 5:8,”...if anyone does not take care of his own, and especially of his household; he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” Having a will is good stewardship. Take care of your family. For more information, contact the rectory or call the Office of Planned Giving at (305) 762-1110.
