Hi, La Promesa Families! Welcome to
September. School is flying by thus far. It is my
absolute pleasure to witness each and every day
the wonderful work that is taking place at La
Promesa. Students are learning and teachers
are teaching!
The beginning of year “testing season”
has officially begun. At the beginning of each
school year we are required to administer the
W-APT English language proficiency screener to
students who have a language influence other
than English indicated in their home language
surveys; these are students who have not yet
begun receiving English Language Learner
services. In addition, the first round of our
Discovery Education Assessment and iStation
testing is taking place. Both assessments are
used by La Promesa to identify students’
present levels of performance in order to create
an instructional program that meets the needs
of La Promesa students.
Spring 2016 PARCC scores are in. La
Promesa students in grades three through eight
tested in both math and reading. Overall our
total proficiency improved in both subjects. This
year we are focused on making even bigger
gains, and need the help of our great families to
make sure we remain partners in education. This
year our goal is to have at least 50% of our
students test as proficient or above on the
Spring 2017 PARCC assessment, and I know that
our fantastic staff, intelligent students, and
supportive parents will work together to make
this a reality!
The first PTAT fundraiser was
chocolate sales, and we have seen great
success! Students have done a fantastic job
selling their boxes of chocolate. The deadline
for submitting money is September 9. Funds
raised will be used to support PTAT initiatives.

Early release Wednesdays will begin in
the month of September. On September 14
and 28, students will be released at 12:30 PM so
that teachers can participate in professional
development. Also, athletics has begun. LPELC
will have Cross County and Basketball teams
competing in the Albuquerque Charter School
League. Please get out and support our
Panther teams!
Finally, I would like to ask for your help
with the LPELC Governance Council. We are
looking to fill two vacancies on our school
board. The LPELC is responsible for making
high level operational decisions that drive our
programs. For more information about our

Some of our funding for school programs comes from our demographic information.
In order to gather that information, all families must complete the attached lunch
forms so that information can be calculated. This information also helps our
qualification for our free breakfast and lunch programs. Please complete this form
and send back with your child in their communication folder. If you have any
questions, please come to the front office and we can assist.

Imagine Learning – English y Español
Our kindergarten students have access
to Imagine Learning, in both English and
Spanish! Imagine Learning incorporates
the five essential components of reading:
phonological awareness, phonics,
fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Also, as students read literature and
informational text adapted to their skill
level, they learn reading strategies and
receive guidance along the way. When
answering common comprehension
questions, students receive immediate,
instructive feedback. Meanwhile, literacy
instruction helps students throughout the
school day. For example, as students
read passages on math, science, and
history, they stay engaged while
increasing their background knowledge
base.

LA PROMESA TO HAVE A BASKETBALL TEAM
Two years ago, Chris Jones and Coach David Romo started the middle school sports program. This year, basketball will be
added to school athletics thanks to Patrick Romero of the Taylor Ranch, Farm Bureau Financial Services. The Taylor
Ranch Farm Bureau is La Promesa’s first Platinum Community Partner. Thanks to his generosity, Patrick provided uniforms
and equipment for the team.
Hace dos años, Chris Jones y el Entrenador David Romo comenzó la
programa de deportes. Este año, el baloncesto será añadido a la escuela de
atletismo gracias a Patricio Romero de Taylor Rancho, Farm Bureau

Class Dojo es un sistema que

Imagine Learning – Ingles y Español
Nuestros estudiantes de kínder tienen
acceso al programa Imagine Learning en
Ingles y Espanol. Imagine Learning
incorpora 5 componentes esenciales para
la lectura: conciencia fonológica, fónica,
fluidez, vocabulario y comprensión.
Además, como los estudiantes leen
literatura y textos informativos adaptados a
su nivel de habilidad, aprenden estrategias
de lectura y reciben orientación continua.
Al responder a preguntas de comprensión
comunes, los estudiantes reciben una
retroalimentación inmediata de instrucción.
Mientras tanto, la alfabetización ayuda a
los estudiantes a lo largo de la jornada
escolar. Por ejemplo, el que los
estudiantes lean pasajes en las
matemáticas, la ciencia y la historia, esto
los mantiene en su nivel al mismo tiempo
que aumenta su base de conocimiento a
fondo.

Hola a las familias de La Promesa!
Bienvenidos! Los días se van volando por eso es un
placer ser testigos cada día del trabajo maravilloso
que se está haciendo en La Promesa. Los estudiantes
están aprendiendo y los maestros están gustosos de
ensenar.
Nuestra temporada de examines a
empezado oficialmente. Al principio de cada ano es
necesario administrar W-APT que es una evaluación
para identificar a los estudiantes que tienen otro
lenguaje aparte del Ingles como está indicado en su
encuesta de lenguaje en casa; estos son estudiantes
que aun no han empezado a obtener servicios de
Lenguaje en Ingles. Estamos haciendo la primera
ronda para nuestras evaluaciones de Discovery
Education e iStation. Ambas evaluaciones son
usadas por La Promesa para identificar el nivel del
desempeño de los estudiantes y así poder crearles un
programa de instrucciones que incluya las metas
necesarias para cada estudiante de La Promesa.
Ya tenemos los resultados de PARCC de la
primavera 2016. Los estudiantes de La Promesa del
grado tercero a octavo aprobaron ambos
matemáticas y lectura. En general, nuestros totales
incrementaron en ambas áreas. Este ano nos
queremos enfocar en lograr aun mas incremento y
para lograrlo necesitamos la gran ayuda de nuestras
familias y así seguir siendo en gran equipo educativo.
Nuestro objetivo para este año es que por lo menos el
50% de nuestros estudiantes obtengan un grado
excelente en las pruebas del verano PARCC 2017 y
sabemos que lo podremos lograr gracias a nuestros
dedicados e inteligentes estudiantes, nuestro
personal que es fantástico y con el gran apoyo de
nuestros excelentes padres podremos todos juntos
hacer esto realidad!
Nuestra primera actividad para recaudar
fondos de parte del PTAT en vender chocolates ha
sido un éxito! Nuestros estudiantes han hecho un
trabajo fantástico en vender sus cajas de chocolates.
El ultimo día para entregar dinero de esta venta es
Septiembre 9, estos recursos se usara para apoyar
los iniciativos del PTAT. Para mas información sobre

Las salidas tempranas en los miércoles
empezaran en el mes de Septiembre. El día 14 y 28
de Septiembre habrá salida temprana, los
estudiantes saldrán a las 12:30 PM. Esto dará
oportunidad a los maestros a participar en
programas de desarrollo profesional. También
empezaran las actividades atléticas, tendremos
carreras de Cross Country y Basquetbol los equipos
competirán en la liga de escuelas Chárter de
Albuquerque. Por favor salgamos a apoyar a nuestro
equipo los Panteras!
Finalmente, nos gustaría pedir su ayuda
con el Consejo de Gobierno de nuestra escuela
LPELC. Estamos necesitando llenar dos puestos en
nuestro grupo de consejo. LPELC es responsable en
hacer decisiones de alto nivel operativo para
