The fact that I am
Is amazing and wonderful.
I can move about,
I can think, love, and choose.
I can grow in wisdom.
I am yours, God,
Your beloved child.
Gifted as You see fit,
For sharing, For loving,
For bearing.
In utter reliance on You;
In trust,
Totally secure,
Totally loved,
Totally yours.

MASSES FOR
MOTHER’S DAY
Starting this Sunday May
11th, Mother’s Day, a
Novena of Masses will be
celebrated for all mothers,
living or deceased. Those
who wish to include the names of their mothers
in the intentions of these Masses, can use the
special envelopes that are at the entrance of the
church. Please, return them by May 11th .
DON’T BE AFRAID TO FAIL
You’ve failed many times,
although you don’t remember.
You fell down the first time you tried to walk.
You almost drowned the first time
you tried to swim.
Did you hit the ball the first time
you swung the bat?
Heavy hitters, the ones who hit the most home
runs, also strike out a lot.
R.H. Macy failed seven times
before his store in New York caught on.
Novelist John Creasey got 753 rejection slips
before he published 564 books.
Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs,
but he also struck out 1,330 times.
The message is, don’t worry about failure.
Worry instead about the chances you miss
when you don’t even try.

HUMOR CORNER
Noah’s Ark
Everything I need to know, I learn
from Noah’s Ark:
One: Don’t miss the boat .
Two: Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three: Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when
Noah built the Ark.
Four: Stay fit. When you’re 60 years old,
someone may ask you to do something really big.
Five: Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the
job that needs to be done.
Six: Build your future on high ground.
Seven: For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
Eight: Speed isn't always an advantage. The
snails were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine: When you’re stressed, float awhile.
Ten: Remember, the Ark was built by
amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
Eleven: No matter the storm, when you are
with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.
THE POWER OF PEOPLE
“As I look back upon my youth I realize how
important to me were the help, understanding
and courage so many people gave me.
These men and women entered into my life and
become powers within me.
But they never knew it.
Nor did I perceive their help at the time.”
Albert Schweitzer 10-1949
St. Agnes Academy’s 2nd graders will receive
their First Reconciliation on Wednesday, May
7th, followed by their First Communion on
Saturday, May 10th. We pray for them as they
receive these two sacraments, and continue their
spiritual journey and education.
The school will hold a Grandparents’ Day
celebration on Friday, May 9th. In honor of our
students’ grandparents, there will be an Open
House at 7:40 A.M., a special Mass at 9:00 A.M.,
as well as a reception afterward.

Sunday’s Message
REMAIN WITH US
Luke 24: 13 - 35
“…While He was sitting with
them at table, He took bread,
said the blessing, broke it,
and gave it to them. With that
Pastor’s Notes
their eyes were opened and
the journey alone.
they recognized Him…”
The Gospel of the two
disciples meeting the Risen
Jesus on the road to Emmaus
mirrors the reality that God is
with us in life’s most difficult,
confusing, desperate moments.
“They recognized Him in the
breaking of the bread,” Luke
writes in today’s Gospel. We
too, can realize the presence
of Christ in our midst when we
break open in order to feed, to
teach, to plant, to heal.
Breaking can be an
experience of resurrection in
the midst of the dark and
deadness around us; breaking
can be the beginning of a
transforming springtime that
melts the harsh winter cold.
Easter faith is to recognize
God in our midst: in our
wanting to understand, in our
struggle to make things right,
in our brokenness. May our
Easter celebration open our
hearts and spirits to recognize
Christ among us in every
moment of our lives.
I learned from memory the account of the Road to
Emmaus when I was very young. It is found in Luke's
Gospel 24:13-35. This passage enthralled me, and I
understood it perfectly. Perhaps it was due to the fact
that every day I had to carry my books and notes and
walk two miles to, and another two miles from, the
school or church in my village. Most of the time I made
As I walked along happy and singing, above all in springtime, usually after
Easter, I would feast my eyes on the lovely meadows and wheat fields of
Castilla, adorned with the green of the budding crop. I would drink in the
singing of the River Duero, and the chirping of the birds. I greeted the
farmers who, riding in their poor wagons, were on their way to their fields to
work without rest from sunrise to sunset. The figure of the shepherd leading
his sheep was also part of the landscape.
Thus passed the first years of my childhood, without worries, with many
dreams and fantasies, with great hopes and always mindful that the risen
Jesus walked along with me, and that my guardian angel would never leave
me. After I became aware of the story of the two disciples on the road to
Emmaus, the journey had much more meaning for me. Of course, I had no
complaints to discuss with Him. Sometimes I conversed with Him about my
childhood dreams; at other times I was silent, listening, without realizing
that this also was praying. And in this way, the trip always seemed shorter.
When the chiming of the bells filled the air and the fields with vibrant
melodies, I calculated the time I needed to reach the church, greet the
people, serve at the altar and above all, enliven my faith, childlike and
innocent, discovering and celebrating the presence of Jesus who came to us
in the Eucharist.
Many times, upon returning home, towards evening, in my childish way I
would repeat a song with words more or less like this: "Remain with us,
Lord; night is coming and it is growing dark. The shadows lengthen,
my God, and the world cannot see." I felt that the sun was hiding, and the
night was enveloping us; this made me hasten my pace to get home soon. In
the distance I could see the smoke rising from the chimneys of my house. The
sight made me dream of dinner, simple but delicious, which my mother was
already preparing.
With how much pleasure I invited the risen Lord to enter my house and
enjoy the peace, harmony and genuineness of a good family. The memory
and the lyrical quality of those days remains far away. But today, reading
once more the story of the journey to Emmaus, I can only say again,
"Remain with us, Lord."

— Hechos 2:28
Mensaje del Domingo
QUEDATE CON NOSOTROS
Lucas 24, 13 - 35
“Mientras El estaba sentado a
la mesa, tomó el pan, dio
gracias, lo partió y se lo dio. Al
momento sus ojos se abrieron y
le reconocieron…”
El relato de los dos discípulos,
que encuentra al Señor
resucitado en el camino hacia
Emaús, refleja la realidad de
que Dios siempre está con
nosotros en los momentos de la
vida, más difíciles, más
confusos y más desesperados...
“Ellos le reconocieron en la
fracción del pan”, así nos lo
dice Lucas en su Evangelio.
También nosotros podemos
reconocer la presencia de
Cristo, cuando abrimos nuestra
mente y corazón para
alimentar, enseñar, plantar y
curar.
El partir el pan puede ser la
experiencia de Resurrección en
medio de la oscuridad y la
muerte que nos rodea; el partir
el pan puede ser el comienzo de
una nueva primavera dejando a
un lado la frialdad del invierno.
La fe de la Pascua es reconocer
a Dios entre nosotros: en
nuestro deseo de entender, en
nuestras luchas por hacer las
cosas bien, en nuestras
debilidades. Que la celebración
pascual abra nuestros
corazones y almas para
reconocer a Cristo, siempre
presente entre nosotros.
Comentarios
Me
encantó esta lectura y la entendí perfectamente. Tal
presentar a Jesús.
mundo no ve.”

recintos cerrados y oscuros.
♦ Inspiración creadora, frente a rutinas en
inmovilismos.
♦ Soplo de universalidad, frente a localismos
estrechos.
♦ Empuje comunitario, frente a masificaciones
buen amigo”.
“En el verdadero amor no manda nadie;
obedecen los dos”.
“El amor compadece, y compadece más, cuanto
más ama”.

EMAUS
Porque es tarde, Dios mío,
porque anochece ya
y se nubla el camino;
porque temo perder
las huellas que he seguido,
no me dejes tan sola
y quédate conmigo.
Porque he sido rebelde,
y he buscado el peligro,
y escudriñé curiosa
las cumbres y el abismo,
perdóname, Señor,
y quédate conmigo.
Porque ardo en sed de ti
y en hambre de tu trigo,
Ven, siéntate a mi mesa,
Bendice el pan y el vino.
¡Que aprisa cae la tarde…!
¡Quédate al fin conmigo!

APRENDER A CONVIVIR
1. Ama a aquellos con quienes convives y trata
de descubrir a Dios dentro de ellos.
2. Acepta a tu hermano tal cual es. Tiene el
derecho de “ser diferente”.
