ANNOUNCEMENTS
STAFFING CHANGES - Two long-time Edison staff
members are retiring at the end of this school year. With
many thanks, we bid farewell to Iris Preciado (Senior
Office Specialist) and Angel Ybarra (Day Custodian) who
are looking forward to being able to spend more time
traveling, being with their grandchildren, and devoting
time to service projects and hobbies. We will be
interviewing over the summer to fill these positions. First
Grade Teacher Georgina Mojica will be enjoying a shorter
commute next year as she teaches in an immersion
program closer to home and continues her masters’
studies at CSU Long Beach. Instructional Assistant Cara La
Barbera is leaving us to student teach next year and finish
her masters’ program at Antioch University. Each of these
individuals have enriched our school with their talents
and commitment and we are thankful for the time we
have worked with them.
YEAR END GIFTS TO EDISON PTA AND TO SMMEF
There’s still time to get in on the $200,000 matching grant
that the Franklin PTA pledged to SMMEF and help
safeguard SMMEF programs from cuts next year. You can
donate on-line at www.smmef.org, or leave a contribution
in the Edison Office. Contributions to the Edison PTA –
which are still also needed as we begin budget discussions
for 2016-2017 – and can be made on line at
www.edisonamigos.com (click the fundraising tab and
Direct Donation) or by writing a check to Edison PTA and
leaving it in the office.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS -- 2016-2017 DATES:
Sunday, August 21: Class lists posted on office and library
windows at 4:00 p.m. Lists will also be posted in the
courtyard on the first day of school. Immunizations
and/or health exams, and any needed inter-district
permits must be up to date before your child’s name will
be put on a class list.
Monday August 22: Instruction Begins – Minimum day
for all students.
Tuesday, August 23: Minimum Day for TK and K students;
Regular day for grades 1-5
Tuesday, August 30: Back to School Night for TK-2nd

Tuesday, September 6: Back to School Night for Grades

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
FAREWELL 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR
As the school year draws to a close, I want to thank you for
giving us the opportunity to work with your children this year. Our
students amaze and delight us every day and we will miss their smiles,
hugs, and excitement with learning during the summer months.
Children learn and grow so much every year and one of the privileges
of working with young children is that we get to be a part of that.
The end of this school year should finally mark the end of our
long, long construction project! This has been my 10th year as Edison
Principal and 37th year as an educator, and I can honestly say that
being principal during this long construction project has been one of
the most challenging times in my career! However, it also gave me the
opportunity to really appreciate the process of change, how
challenging it is for organizations and people, and the importance of
maintaining a strong focus on teaching and learning – no matter what
challenges arise.
At the end of the construction process we have a new facility
with more room for enrichment and specialized programs, a great step
forward with technology, and play space that will be an asset for our
students and the surrounding community. And, in the midst of the
challenges of construction, we kept the focus on teaching and learning.
Our achievement rose each year – even with the transition to new
state standards and assessments. More Edison students than ever
before are working above grade level, and fewer are working below
grade level.
I am tremendously proud of all of our staff. They have
persevered through the challenges and kept their vision set on what
was really important for our students. They adjusted to new standards
and assessments, new buildings and spaces, and continued to grow
their own instructional practices at the same time. This focus on our
students and dedication to best practices and collaboration was why
Edison was nominated as a National Blue Ribbon School this year. We
will have minor ups and downs in test scores from year to year (all
schools do) –but our steady growth over time is solid – for all students.

Next year we begin our 30 year as a dual immersion school,
with a new facility that will support many future generations of
students learning in two languages at Edison and a strong base of
achievement to take our students even further. ¡Adelante Edison!
Wishing you all some wonderful times together this summer and we
look forward to seeing all our returning students August 22!

DEL ESCRITORIO DE LA DIRECTORA:
Cambios de Personal - Dos miembros del
personal de largo plazo se jubilan al final de este año
escolar. Con mucho agradecimiento, nos despedimos de
Iris Preciado (Especialista de Oficina) y Angel Ybarra
(Gerente de Limpieza del día) quienes están ansiosos de
poder pasar más tiempo viajando, estar con sus nietos, y
dedicando tiempo a proyectos de servicio y pasa tiempos.
Estaremos entrevistando durante el verano para llenar
estas posiciones. La Maestra de Primer Grado Georgina
Mojica disfrutará de un camino corto el próximo año
mientras trabaja en un programa de inmersión más
cercano a su hogar y continúa sus estudios para recibir su
Maestría en CSU Long Beach. La Asistente de Instrucción
Cara La Barbera nos deja para dar clases como
maestra/estudiante y terminar su programa de Maestría
en la Universidad Antioch. Cada uno de estas personas
han enriquecido a nuestra escuela con sus talentos y
compromiso y estamos agradecidos por el tiempo que
hemos trabajado con ellos.
Obsequios de Fin de Año a la PTA de Edison y
SMMEF – Todavía hay tiempo para participar en la beca
igualadora de $200,000 que la PTA de Franklin le prometió
a SMMEF y ayudar proteger programas de SMMEF de
cortes el próximo año. Ustedes pueden donar por internet
en www.smmef.org, o dejar una contribución en la oficina
de Edison. Contribuciones a la PTA de Edison que también
son necesarias mientras comenzamos las discusiones para
el presupuesto para el 2016 – 2017 - también se pueden
hacer por internet en www.edisonamigos.com (oprima el
botón de Recaudación de Fondos y Donación directa) o
escribir un cheque a nombre de Edison PTA y dejarlo en la
oficina.

Domingo, 21 de agosto: Listas de clases se pondrán en las
ventanas de la oficina y de la biblioteca a las 4:00 p.m. Las
listas también se pondrán en el patio el primer día de
clases. Las vacunas y/o exámenes físicos, y cualquier
permiso de inter-distrito requerido deben estar al
corriente antes de que el nombre de su hijo/a se ponga en
una lista de clase.
Lunes, 22 de agosto: Comienzan las clases – día mínimo
para todos los estudiantes.
Martes, 23 de agosto: Día mínimo para los estudiantes de
TK y K; día regular para los grados 1 – 5
Martes, 30 de agosto: Noche de Regreso a la Escuela para
los grados TK – 2º (comida preparada por familias del 3º
grado)
Martes, 6 de septiembre: Noche de Regreso a la Escuela
para los grados 3º – 5º (comida preparada por familias del
2º grado)
30 de agosto a martes, 6 de septiembre: Feria de Libros
del Otoño – súrtanse de títulos bilingües para el nuevo año
escolar.
Adios al Año Escolar del 2015 -2016
Mientras el año escolar se cierra, quiero agradecerles por darnos la
oportunidad de trabajar con sus niños este año. Nuestros estudiantes nos
sorprenden y nos alegran cada día y extrañaremos sus sonrisas, abrazos, y
emoción con el aprendizaje durante los meses de verano. Los niños
aprenden y crecen tanto cada año y uno de los privilegios de trabajar con
niños jóvenes es que podemos ser parte de eso.
¡El final de éste año escolar finalmente debe marcar el fin de
nuestro proyecto largo, largo de construcción! ¡Este ha sido mi 10º año
como Directora de Edison y 37º año como educadora, y honestamente
puedo decir que ser directora durante un proyecto largo de construcción ha
sido uno de los tiempos más retozos de mi carrera! Sin embargo, también
me dio la oportunidad de realmente apreciar el proceso de cambio, lo retozo
que es para organizaciones y gente, y la importancia de mantener un
enfoque fuerte en enseñar y aprender – sin importar que retos surjan.
Al final del proceso de construcción tenemos una instalación nuevo
con más espacio para enriquecimiento y programas especializados, un gran
paso hacia adelante con tecnología, y espacio de juego que será un beneficio
para nuestros estudiantes y la comunidad de alrededor. Y, en medio de
todos los retos de construcción, mantenemos el enfoque en enseñar y
aprender. Nuestro rendimiento aumentó cada año – aún con la transición a
las nuevas normas y exámenes estatales. Más estudiantes que antes
estuvieron trabajando más allá del nivel de grado, y menos estuvieron
trabajando debajo del nivel de grado.
Estoy tremendamente orgullosa de todo nuestro personal. Han
perseverado a través de los retos y mantuvieron su vista fija en lo que era
realmente importante para nuestros estudiantes. Se ajustaron a las normas y
exámenes estatales, nuevos edificios y espacios, y continuaron creciendo
sus propias prácticas de instrucción al mismo tiempo. Este enfoque en
nuestros estudiantes y la dedicación a mejores prácticas y colaboración fue
por qué Edison fue nominada como una Escuela de Listón Azul Nacional
este año. Tendremos pequeñas subidas y bajadas en resultados de
exámenes de un año a otro (todas las escuelas las tienen) – pero nuestro
crecimiento a través del tiempo es sólido – para todos los estudiantes.
El año que viene comenzamos nuestro 30º año como escuela de
doble inmersión con una instalación nueva que apoyará muchas
generaciones futuras de estudiantes aprendiendo en dos idiomas en Edison y
una base fuerte de rendimiento para llevar a nuestros estudiantes aún más
lejos. ¡Adelante Edison!
¡Deseándoles tiempos maravillosos a todos juntos este verano y
deseamos ver a todos nuestros estudiantes quienes regresan el 22 de
agosto!
