God Made Manifest
Today we celebrate the Epiphany, the
manifestation of the divinity of Jesus. It was one
of my favorite feasts as a child. My family put up
the nativity set on Christmas Eve, and the
figures of the Magi were placed at a distance
from the scene. Each day I moved them a bit
closer until on January 6 they too arrived at the
crib. They sought Jesus, followed his star, and
discovered him on their journey. In him, they
experienced God’s presence. Like them, we
also seek God, who is made manifest in many
ways, in liturgy and prayer, nature, music, art,
and often in the people we encounter on our
way. Like the Magi, we also experience the
presence of God in our lives.

Dios Hecho Manifiesto
Hoy celebramos la Epifanía, la manifestación de
la divinidad de Jesús. Era una de mis fiestas
preferidas cuando niño. Mi familia eregía el
Nacimiento la víspera de Navidad, y las figuras
de los Reyes Magos se ponían a una distancia de
la escena. Cada día los movía un poquito más
cerca hasta que el 6 de enero ellos también
llagaban al pesebre. Buscaron a Jesús, siguieron
su estrella, y lo descubrieron en su viaje. En él,
experimentaron la presencia de Dios. Como
ellos, nosotros también buscamos a Dios, que se
hace manifesto de muchas maneras, en la
liturgia y el rezo, naturaleza, música, arte, y a
menudo en la gente que encontramos en nuestra
camino. Como los Reyes Magos, también
experimentamos la presencia de Dios en

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In this month and throughout the Year of Faith, God
is especially calling all of us to be credible witnesses
to the sacredness of all human life from the moment
of conception to natural death. To be this sign, I
specifically invite you to consider participating in one
or more of the special events described below.
On January 19, 2013 at 8:00 am, I will celebrate the
annual Respect Life Mass at Saint Joseph Catholic
Church in Raleigh. I extend a special invitation to
the teens of our Diocese to join me later that morning
at Sacred Heart Cathedral for Mass at 10:30am,
followed by the third annual Love My Life rally on
the campus of Sacred Heart Cathedral. This rally is a
great opportunity for hundreds of Catholic teens to
renew friendships with others from across our
Diocese and learn more about promoting the culture
of life. Following this rally, our youth are also
invited to join me in the annual North Carolina March
for Life, beginning at Nash Square at 1:OOpm, as we
offer witness for the protection of the unborn and the
sanctity of all human life.
On January 25, 2013 at 11:30 am, all the faithful of
our Diocese are invited to gather with those from the
Diocese of Charlotte for our annual North Carolina
Mass for Life at the Basilica of the Immaculate
Conception in Washington, D.C. Following this
Mass, Bishop Jugis and I and tens of thousands of
people from across the country will offer witness to
the sanctity of all human life as we participate in the
National March for Life along the National Mall.
If you are unable to join us for these events in
Raleigh and Washington D.C., I ask for your
prayers so that, together, we may be united in
our common faith that all human life is sacred
and must be protected.
May our Lord Jesus abundantly bless you in this
New Year, throughout this Year of Faith and
always.

Queridos Hermanos y Herrnanas en Cristo:
En este mes y a lo largo del Año de la Fe, Dios nos
está llamando a todos especialmente a ser testigos
creíbles de la santidad de toda la vida humana desde
el momento de la concepción hasta la muerte natural.
Para ser este signo, específicamente les invito a que
consideren participar en uno o más de los eventos especiales que se describen a continuación.
El 19 de enero de 2013 a las 8:00am, celebraré l a
Misa anual de Respeto por la Vida en la Iglesia
Católica de San José en Raleigh. Extiendo una invitación especial a todos los jóvenes de nuestra Diócesis
a que se unan a mí más tarde esa mañana en la Catedral del Sagrado Corazón para una Misa a las 10:30
am, seguida por el tercer Rally anual Amo mi Vida
(Love my Life), en el campus de la Catedral del Sagrado Corazón. Este Rally es una gran oportunidad
para que cientos de jóvenes renueven amistades con
otros de nuestra Diócesis y aprendan más sobre la
vida y promuevan l a cultura de la vida. Tras este Rally, nuestros jóvenes también están invitados a unirse a
mí en la Marcha Anual por la Vida de Carolina del
Norte, comenzando en la Plaza Nash a la 1:00pm,
como testigos para la protección de los no nacidos y
la santidad de toda vida humana.
El 25 de enero de 2013 a las 11:30 am, todos los
fieles de nuestra Diócesis están invitados a reunirse
con los de la Diócesis de Charlotte para nuestra Misa
Anual por la Vida de Carolina del Norte en la Basílica
de la Inmaculada Concepción en Washington, D.C.
Después de esta Misa, el Obispo Jugis, yo y decenas
de miles de personas de todo el país ofrecerán testimonio de la santidad de toda vida humana, como participantes en la Marcha Nacional por la Vida a lo largo
del National Mall. Si usted no puede unirse a nosotros
para estos eventos en Raleigh y Washington D.C.,
pido sus oraciones para que juntos podamos estar
unidos en nuestra fe común de que toda vida humana
es sagrada y debe ser protegida.
Que nuestro Señor Jesús les bendiga abundantemente en este Nuevo Año, a lo largo de este Año de La
Fe y siempre.
