It is important to point out today that this is a fact based on faith. And that is the fact that God wants the salvation of each and every person, starting with the people of Israel but encompassing the whole of humanity. And in this salvation by Jesus Christ and only by Jesus Christ, we are all included. We should be thankful for this every day of our existence. It is the duty of every Christian to bring the light of the gospel to a world that is still in darkness in a large part. Our word and our life witness must be light that illumines all around us and that leads people to God. Again, I wish to all that Jesus will transform us in the year that has just started. Amen. Federico Page 3 Page 3 STEWARDSHIP IN ACTION COMUNIDAD EN ACCIÓN Our celebration of Christmas Eve Mass included a representation of the Nativity scene. They are regular figures in traditional accounts of the Nativity celebrations of Christmas. According to the Gospel of Matthew, they were the first non-Jews to worship Jesus. It states that "they" came "from the east" to worship the Christ, "born King of the Jews”. Although the account does not mention their number, the three gifts has led to the widespread assumption that there were three men. In the East, they traditionally number twelve. Their identification as kings in later Christian writings is probably linked to Psalm 72:11, "May all kings fall down before him". Christian Scriptures record nothing about them after reporting their going back to their own country. Separate traditions have surfaced claiming that they were so moved by their encounter with Jesus that they either became Christians on their own or were quick to convert fully upon later encountering an Apostle of Jesus. Tradition claims that they were so strong in their beliefs that they willingly embraced martyrdom and that their bodies were first venerated at Constantinople, from where they were transferred to Milan and eventually to Cologne, where they are venerated today. Epiphany Sunday Page 7 The POPE SPEAKS/HABLA EL PAPA Jesus Christ, the manifestation of God’s love Angelus, January 6, 2014 The Epiphany brings to the fore the universal opening of the salvation brought by Jesus. The Liturgy today acclaims: “Lord, every nation on earth will adore you”, because Jesus came for us all, for every nation, for everyone!... this Feast lets us see a double movement: in one direction, the movement of God towards the world, towards humanity — the whole of the history of salvation, which culminates in Jesus — and in the other, the movement of men towards God… And this double movement is driven by a mutual attraction… Jesus is the meeting point of this mutual attraction, of this double movement. He… is the Epiphany. He, Jesus Christ, is the manifestation of God’s love. He is with us. Gracias por su generosidad Saints this Week/Santos de la Semana St. André Bessette, January 6, was a lay brother of the Congregation of Holy Cross and a significant figure of the Roman Catholic Church among FrenchCanadians, credited with thousands of reported miraculous healings. His great confidence in Saint Joseph inspired him to recommend this saint's devotion to all those who were afflicted in various ways, and many were cured through St. Joseph’s intercession. Because he wanted St. Joseph to be honored, in 1904 St. André began the campaign to erect a chapel to honor the saint, which resulted in the construction of a basilica named Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal . Epiphany Sunday Page 9 Page 10 St. Hugh Congratulations to the Students of the Month for December. This month the students have been learning about the virtue of joy. Joy is the pure gift of God’s grace and happiness that goes beyond anything we can seek or imagine for ourselves. These students have demonstrated the virtue of joy in school by being joyful when helping other, learning and sharing their faith
