THE SANCTUARY LAMP is burning this week For the Birthday of

JACKPOT
In our lottery- and sweepstakes-obsessed culture, it is common
to ask ourselves or others what they would do if they won. In
today’s first reading, Solomon certainly hits the jackpot. What
prize could be greater than having God Almighty agree to give
you whatever you ask for? Out of all the things he could have
asked for, Solomon chose to ask for understanding, and was
rewarded with it. We would do well to wonder what we would
ask for if God made us the same offer. Actually God does
make us the same offer each and every day, by granting us another day of life, a bit of the earth’s goods, some gift or ability,
some call to goodness, some portion of the divine will. Each
of these is a “prize.” We should stop and examine what we are
going to do with our prize: keep it or use it selfishly, or put it

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS…
PRAYER AND LIFE WORKSHOP
Our Prayer and Life Workshop begins on Thursday, July 31,
2014 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will be held in the CCD
classrooms. The workshop consists of a total of 15 sessions
which lend a great opportunity to learn various ways of prayer. Please make plans to attend. If you have any questions,

CCD Office- on July 29, 2014 the CCD office will be open
from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and will be closed for the remainder of the day. We will, however, be open on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. We apologize for the

AARP DRIVER SAFETY CLASS
We invite all individuals over the age of 50 to join us for a
class on Driver Safety to be held on Tuesday, August 5th
from 1:00-5:00pm at the Family Life Center. The cost of the
class is $15 for members of AARP and $20 for non-members.

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP
OPEN TO ALL! Our next Stroke Support Meeting will be
Monday, August 11th at the Family Life Center at 7 p.m. Not
only do these monthly meetings provide great resources and
information for stroke survivors, their family, and caretakers,
but they also provide beneficial information about the warning signs of stroke and how to prevent one. Anyone who
wants to improve their health and knowledge of local resources should attend! For more info, please call Deedee

July 27- August 8- Registration for CCD continues
July 29- CCD Office open until 1:00 pm
August 2- CCD office open until 2:00 pm
CCD Registration: CCD registration will continue through
the month of July. Parents with students going into 2nd year
preparation of either communion or confirmation, please
remember that the children need to be registered every year.
The closing date for registration will be August 8, 2014.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA): RCIA classes will be offered for adults (18 or older) who need sacraments. These classes will begin in September and will finish
in May. Please stop by the CCD office for more information
and for the registration forms.
Catechists- If anyone is interested in becoming a catechist
for the 2014-2015 catechetical year, please stop by the CCD
office to pick up a volunteer packet.

WOMEN’S ACTS
On behalf of the Women’s ACTS team we would like to
thank the community of San Martin de Porres Church for all

ADULT BIBLE SHARING GROUP
