Estimado Padre de Familia:
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. This is the first edition of Expreso
for this year. Expreso will be mailed out before the first of each month; it
will contain important dates and information for the upcoming month. Please
keep this newsletter and have it available through the month. The entire
school year calendar, which contains important events, vacation days, and
workdays, can be found on our website: www.cristorey.net. If you do not
receive a copy for some reason, please ask your son/daughter to pick one
up at the Front Desk.
Bienvenidos al año escolar 2016-2017. Esta es la primera edición de Expreso del año. Enviaremos Expreso antes del primero de cada mes; incluirá
fechas importantes e información del mes siguiente. Por favor guarde este
boletín y manténgalo a la mano durante el mes. El calendario completo del
año escolar contiene eventos importantes, días de vacaciones y de trabajo,

The first day of school is Monday, August 22nd. Students will receive their
schedules in the mail before that day. Two copies will be mailed – one is for
you and one is for your son/daughter. Your copy will contain the name and
contact information of your son/daughter’s Asesor, your main contact at
school regarding your son/daughter’s academic progress. Students should
bring their schedules with them on the first day in order to know where to
go each period of the day.
El primer día de clases es el lunes, 22 de agosto. Los estudiantes recibirán
sus horarios por correo antes de ese día. Se enviarán dos copias – una
para ud. y una para su hijo/a. Su copia tendrá el nombre e información del
Asesor, su principal contacto en la escuela sobre el progreso académico de
su hijo/a. Los estudiantes deben de traer sus horarios para saber donde ir
cada período del día.
Books will be distributed to students during the first week of classes.
Teachers will inform students of the school supplies necessary for each
class. Paper and a pen should be sufficient for the first day. CTA Ventra
bus cards will be available for purchase after Labor Day at the front desk
for $2, payable by a money order to Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.
Los libros se distribuirán a los estudiantes durante la primera semana de

The cafeteria will open every day at 6:45am for breakfast. The front door
to the main classroom building will open at 7:45am. Once students have
entered the building, they may not leave without permission. Students
must be in their 1st period classroom by 8am or they will be considered
tardy. Students are dismissed at 3:30pm but are encouraged to participate
in after school activities.

Once again this year, all students will receive free breakfast and lunch.
Some families will be required to complete a form for the food program.
This will not change the ability of those students to receive free meals but
helps us correctly report data related to our school population. We appreciate your cooperation if you are asked to complete the form.

Your son/daughter will receive a Student Handbook and Planner which
contains the rules and expectations for students. There is a sheet in the
handbook for you and your son/daughter to sign and return to school,
verifying that you have read the handbook and are familiar with the information it contains. The planner also offers space for students to write
down their daily assignments throughout the year. Included is this edition
of Expreso is a summary of our dress code to facilitate your planning for
the school year.
Included in this newsletter is a map and directions for dropping off and picking up students. An off-duty Police Officer in charge of school security will
be present before and after school both to ensure safety for students and to
direct cars, when necessary. For the safety of students and in consideration
of school neighbors who are inconvenienced when the streets are blocked
by cars, please follow the drop-off and pick-up procedures.
Su hijo/a recibirá el manual de estudiante que contiene las reglas y expectativas para todos los estudiantes. Hay una hoja en el manual que usted y su
hijo/a deben firmar y devolver a la escuela, verificando que usted ha leído el
manual y está familiarizado con la información. El manual ofrece espacio
para escribir los asignaciones diarias durante el año. Incluido en esta
edición de Expreso esta un resumen de nuestro código de vestimenta para
facilitar su planificación para el año escolar.
Incluida en este boletín esta un mapa y direcciones para dejar y recoger
estudiantes. Un oficial de policía fuera de servicio encargado de la seguridad de la escuela estará presente antes y después de clases para
garantizar la seguridad de los estudiantes y para dirigir los coches cuando sea necesario. Para la seguridad de los estudiantes y en consideración a los vecinos que son afectados cuando las calles están bloqueadas por coches, por favor siga los procedimientos de dejar y recoger.
A Few Words From the Administration cont.
On Thursday August 25th at 10:45am., we will celebrate our first all school Mass of the year. This Mass of the Holy Spirit is a tradition shared by Jesuit
schools around the country mark the opening of the new school year. All are welcome to attend.

CWSP Announcements
Free backpacks and school supplies!!
Ernst and Young , a CWSP sponsor, has generously donated 175 backpacks filled with new school supplies. Any family interested in receiving a backpack
for their student is welcome to pick one up. The backpacks will be available for pick up at Cristo Rey on Monday, August 8 th and Tuesday, August 9th from
8:30am -3:30pm. Parents or students may pick up backpacks.
Summer Work Pay Checks
If your son or daughter worked at their CWSP sponsor company over the summer, they can pick up their final paychecks from the CWSP office on the
following dates: August 15th, 31st & September 15th
Summer Training Reminders:
 First Week of School: From Monday, August 22nd – Thursday, August 25th all students will report to the cafeteria for their work day and will spend the
day being retrained for their jobs. Students will be dismissed at noon Monday- Thursday.
 Team Orientation: The mandatory Work Study Team Orientation Day will be held on Friday, August 26th. ALL STUDENTS should plan on attending,
unless you are informed that your sponsor company is not participating in the Team Orientation. Students will be transported to their jobs for orientation and training. Students will return to Cristo Rey at approximately 2:30pm and can be picked up at that time. Parents/guardians will be notified of
any exceptions.
 First Day of Work: Monday, August 29th is the first day students will be going to their regular work days at their sponsor companies. Some students
may be asked to attend additional trainings at their sponsor companies prior to the first day of school/work. Parents/guardians will be notified. Some
students may be asked to fill out additional paperwork for their sponsor company prior to the first week of school. Parents/guardians will be notified.
Mochilas y útiles escolares gratis!!
La empresa patrocinadora Ernst & Young generosamente a donado 175 mochilas con útiles escolares para los estudiantes. Si está interesado/a en recibir
una mochila, el estudiante o padre/guardian puede recogerla en la escuela el Lunes, 8 de agosto o el martes 9 de agosto de 8:30am-3:30pm.
Cheques de pago del trabajo de verano
Si su hijo/a trabajaron durante el verano en su empresa patrocinadora de CWSP, pueden recoger sus últimos cheques de pago en la oficina CWSP, las
siguientes fechas: 15 y 31 de agosto, y el 15 de septiembre.
Recordatorios del Entrenamiento de Verano
 Primera Semana de escuela: Les pedimos que los estudiantes se reporten en la cafetería el día que les corresponda trabajar durante el lunes, 22 de
agosto - jueves, 25 de agosto. Los estudiantes pasaran el día en formación para sus trabajos. Estos estudiantes saldrán al medio día de lunes a
jueves.
 Orientación del Equipo: La orientación del equipo Estudio y Trabajo es Obligatoria y se llevará a cabo el viernes 26 de agosto. TODOS los estudiantes tendrán que asistirá la orientación requerida, a menos que se le informe que su empresa patrocinadora no participara en la orientación del equipo. Los estudiantes serán transportados a sus puestos de trabajo para la orientación y entrenamiento. Los estudiantes volverán a Cristo Rey aproximadamente a las 2:30 pm y pueden ser recogidos a esta hora. Los padres/tutores serán notificados de cualquier excepción.

Hemos tenido varias llamadas sobre la congestión del tráfico

significa, aunque sea incómodo, que deben llegar en el momento preciso de dejar y recoger y que tendran que circular
alrededor del block hasta que su hijo/a este disponible. Los
infractores pueden recibir un ticket por la policía. Por favor,
hagan todo lo posible para cumplir con este plan por respeto
a los vecinos de Cristo Rey.

We have had a number of complaints about traffic congestion
during student drop off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon. Please remember that students are to be dropped off or
picked up ONLY on the east side of Wolcott. No one should
be picked up on the west side of the street. Double parking is
not allowed – which means, as inconvenient as it is, you are
encouraged to arrive precisely at the time of drop-off or pickup and will have to circle around the block if your son/daughter
is not yet available. Violators may be subject to ticketing by
the police. Please make every effort to comply with this plan
out of respect for neighbors of Cristo Rey.

Welcome to a new school year! All students will receive an assigned locker
for the 2016-2017 school year. Students must use a school issued combination lock to safely secure their locker and all personal belongings. Freshmen
will be given a combination lock along with their assigned locker during the
first week of school. Students are asked to keep their lock for their four
years at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
must remember to bring their school issued lock with them the first day of
school. If there is a problem with the lock, they can return the lock to Mrs.
Hagelgans, the Dean of Students, in exchange for a new one. If a student
has lost their lock, they can purchase a new one from the Dean of Students
for $6.
¡Bienvenidos a un nuevo año escolar! A todos los estudiantes se les
asignará su casillero para el año escolar 2016-2017. Los estudiantes
deben utilizar el candado que les da la escuela para mantener el casillero
y sus cosas seguros. Los freshmen recibirán su candado con su casillero
durante la primera semana del año escolar. Los estudiantes necesitan usar
el candado que les fue asignado durante sus cuatro años en Cristo Rey

Parents of Seniors
Your son/daughter will soon begin applying to College in the fall, and as part of the college application process students are required to take the ACT (College
Admission Exam). Registration for this exam will be held August 30th, August 31st, and September 1st. from 3:30pm to 5pm at Cristo Rey. Students will randomly be assigned a registration date in advance. It is very important that every student registers during that time frame. By registering early, students have a
strong likelihood of taking the exam at Cristo Rey. Registration Process is 30 min. per student. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs.
Palafox, Director of College Counseling at 773-890-6839.

Attention parents:
There is a potential scholarship opportunity for families that have multiple children attending Cristo Rey, or one child at Cristo Rey and another
child in a Catholic elementary school. This scholarship is only for the upcoming year. To qualify, you must bring in or mail the following information to Mr. Crossett at 773-890-6817 or Ms. Andrade at 773-890-6890 in the Business Office by August 31:
Name and grade of younger son/daughter at another Catholic school
Name of Catholic elementary school for this student
Proof of annual tuition for this student (subtracting any financial aid you are receiving from the elementary school)
There are also other scholarship opportunities for Cristo Rey students to help with tuition for the 2016-2017 school year. For more information,
