Mass intentions /Las Intenciones de Misa
Masses can be celebrated any day for living or deceased loved
ones. The Diocesan stipend is $15.00. What a beautiful way to
remember and honor those we love. We have beautiful Mass
cards for both the living and the deceased. If you would like a
Mass intention please contact the parish office. If you want the
name to appear in the Sunday bulletin, requests should be submitted before Monday.

Black History Month –MASS
The National day of prayer for the African American Family
and celebration of Catholic Faith & Black Culture at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday February 2nd at 2:00pm. The principal celebrant is Bishop J. Terry Steib, SVD, DD, Bishop of

Mothers as Math Mentors
Starting in March, the parish is partnering with Helicon, Inc.
(the Mathematics Resource and Support Center for Females)
to offer an 8-week series of workshops for mothers and their
children in the fourth-grade. The purpose of the workshops is
to prepare the children for the annual New York State math
exams. For more information, attend the Information Session

Reporting Incident of Sexual Abuse
Anyone who needs to report an alleged incident of sexual
abuse of a minor by priest, deacon, religious, or lay person
serving in the Archdiocese of New York is asked to contact

ensure that our children remain safe and secure.
Religious Education
Religious Education classes are in full swing after a beautiful
performance by the students in the Christmas pageant. An
increasing number of them accompanied by their parents attend the 8:30 a.m. Mass before proceeding to classes. We are
delighted with their growth in faith and confidence as they volunteer to ask and answer questions. We look forward to
walking with them each week as they become more aware of
Jesus’ presence in their daily interactions with others.

Christians Divided
Saint Paul addresses disagreements in the early church at
Corinth. He encourages the church there to make up their
differences and to be united again in their belief and practice.
“As there is one Christ, so too must there be no divisions
among you”.
Today’s first reading from Isaiah speaks of a people weighed
down by the yoke of sin and darkness. Certainly the bickering
and differences among us/Christians can be classified as such.
Father Nelson Pichardo
We welcome Fr. Pichardo to St. Joseph’s as the new Associate
Pastor. Father is from the Dominican Republic. He has spent
the last 4 years studying for his Masters degree and teaching at
the University in Santo Domingo. In 2005 - 2010 Father was at
the Church of St. Gregory on 9th street here in New York.
We are very pleased to welcome him to St. Joseph’s. When
you have a moment stop by and meet with him or better yet
invite him to your home for a cup of coffee and a brief chat.
Presentation of the Lord
Next Sunday, February 2, is the feast of the Presentation of
the Lord. There is a beautiful tradition of the blessing of
candles on this feast day. If you have any candles that you use
in your home that you would like to have blessed we will do
so following the 10:00 Mass and the 12:00 Mass.
Blessing of Throats
The feast day of St. Blaise is Monday February 3 - we will
bless throats following the 9:00 am Mass. We will also bless
throats on Sunday February 2 - following the 8:30, 10:00 and
12:00 Masses.
Pierre Toussaint Scholarship
The Pierre Toussaint Scholarships are presented annually to a
number of high school seniors, graduating from either a
Catholic, public or private school located within the
Archdiocese of New York. The scholarship is an award of
$2,000 (renewable) to be used for books, fees and other
expenses in connection with attendance at a college,
university or post-secondary educational institution of the
student's choice. To be eligible, an applicant must :
—be a member of an Archdiocesan parish or faith community
and obtain a letter from his/her pastor
—have demonstrated academic achievement and promise,
—have exhibited good character and leadership
Completed applications must postmarked no later than
Wednesday, February 19, 2014. If you are interested in

Sunday Fellowship –Make New Friends!
The Helping Hands Group is hosting fellowship after the each
Sunday Mass. It gives us a great opportunity to get to know
each other better. Please try and make the time to come.

Cristianos Dividido
San Pablo se enfrenta a desacuerdos que ocurrían en la iglesia
joven de Corinto. Él los anima a que se pongan de acuerdo y a
que vivan unidos en el mismo pensar y sentir. “Les ruego que
se pongan de acuerdo, que no haya divisiones entre ustedes”.
La primera lectura de hoy tomada del profeta Isaías habla de
un pueblo agobiado por el peso del pecado y la oscuridad.
Ciertamente las disputas y diferencias entre cristianos se pueden catalogar así.

Damos la bienvenida a Padre Pichardo el nuevo Pastor Asociado nuestra iglesia. Padre es de la República Dominicana. Él ha
pasado los últimos 4 años estudiando para su maestría y enseñando en la Universidad en su pais. Del 2005 al 2010 el Padre
estaba en la Iglesia de San Gregorio en la calle 9, aquí en Nueva York. Estamos muy contentos de tenerlo en San José de la
Sagrada Familia. Cuando usted tiene un momento por favor
reunirse con él o mejor lo invitan a su casa a tomar una taza
de café y una breve charla.
La Presentación del Señor
El próximo domingo 2 de febrero es la fiesta de la Presentación del Señor. Hay una hermosa tradición de la bendición de

Madres como Mentores de Matemáticas
A partir de marzo, la parroquia se ha asociado con Helicon,
Inc. (el Centro de Recursos de Matemáticas y Apoyo a las Mujeres) para ofrecer una serie de talleres por ocho semanas
para las madres y sus hijos en el cuarto grado. El propósito de
los talleres es ayudar a los niños a prepararse para los exámenes anuales de matemática del estado de NY. Para obtener

Beca Pierre Toussaint
Las becas se presentan anualmente a un número de estudiantes
del ultimo año de escuela secundaria, ya sea de graduarse de la
escuela católica, públicas o privadas localizadas dentro de la Arquidiócesis de Nueva York. La beca (renovable) es un premio de $
2,000 para ser utilizado para los libros, honorarios y otros gastos
relacionados con la asistencia a la universidad o la educación después de la secundaria elegida por el estudiante. Para ser elegible,
el solicitante debe:

Noche Mariana
El Ministerio y Desfile Mariano de la Iglesia Ascensión los invita a una
noche de adoración, contemplación y sanación el jueves 30 de enero
de 7pm a 9pm. Invitado: Padre José Amable. La Iglesia queda en
#221 y calle 107.
Educación Religiosa
Clases de educación religiosa están en plena marcha después
de un espectáculo hermoso por los estudiantes en el desfile de
Navidad. Un número creciente de ellos acompañados de sus
padres asisten a la Misa de 8:30am antes de proceder a clases.
Estamos muy contentos con su crecimiento en la fe y la confianza, ya que se ofrecen para hacer y contestar preguntas.
Esperamos caminar con ellos cada semana a medida que estén
más conscientes de la presencia de Jesús en sus interacciones
diarias con los demás. Padres, gracias por su apoyo!!
