MISIÓN PARROQUIAL
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. John XXIII, are a multi-ethnic Roman Catholic
parish (founded on July 1, 2006) formed from the union of the Church
of the Resurrection, Fontana and St. Thomas More, Rialto. We seek
to nourish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all families and people, so that
they can rejoice in the love of God in this life and in the life to come.
We endeavor to do this by fostering: an authentic Christian Stewardship, the Christian education of our youth and adults through Resurrection Academy and other programs, outreach to the poor and needy, and
the celebration of the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist.

Nosotros, los feligreses de San Juan XXIII, somos una parroquia
Católica Romana multiétnica (fundada el 1de julio del 2006) formada
por la unión de la Iglesia de la Resurrección en Fontana y Santo Tomas
Moro en Rialto. Procuramos alimentar el Evangelio de Jesucristo en
todas las familias y en todas personas, para que puedan regocijarse en
el amor de Dios durante ésta vida y en la vida por venir. Procuramos
realizar esto fomentando: una autentica corresponsabilidad cristiana,
una educación cristiana para nuestros jóvenes y adultos a través de la
Academia de la Resurrección y otros programas, los programas de

ESQUINA DE LA REFLEXION DEL PADRE IMO
WHO IS THE GREATEST DISCIPLE
QUIÉN ES EL DISCÍPULO MAYOR
The book of Wisdom from which the first reading is
taken was written about 100 BC, the audience was the Jews of
the Diaspora living in Alexandria in Egypt, under a severe maltreatment carried out by the authorities because of envy. The
author of Wisdom advised his fellow Jews to embrace wisdom
and use it to understand the reason behind the suffering they are
going through and hold firm to their ancestral religion in their
somewhat hostile environment.
During his time, James took a survey to find out what
was responsible for the high rate of hostility among the people. He found out that behind the façade of fighting and bickering are covetousness and passion. The picture of James’ audience is the same picture of what is going on today in so many
countries. According him, when passion and over-ambition are
at work and wisdom blinded, we do not relate well but fight,
kill, disagree, envy and hate. This passion and over-ambition
filtered into the college of the apostles. The gospel presented us
with the dispute that arose among the apostles about who was
the greatest.
What can a little child possibly teach us about greatness? Children in the ancient world had no rights, position, or
privileges of their own. They were socially at the "bottom of the
rung" and at the service of their parents, much like the household staff and domestic servants. But Jesus elevated a little
child in the presence of his disciples by placing the child in a
privileged position of honor. He is the greatest because the
child is one who is humble and lowly of heart – who instead of
asserting their rights willingly empty themselves of pride and
self-seeking glory by taking the lowly position of a servant or
child. It is in this way that we can truly believe and follow Jesus as true disciples.
Jesus challenges us today to make room for the childlike energy of trust, of laughter, of cooperation with one another
and sensitive to the needs of the other. So, whether we are a
seven years old or ninety, and whether we are the firstborn, lastborn, or the only child of the family, the message of Jesus challenges all of us to become young at heart. This is the only way
we can belong to the kingdom of God. As a way of following
Jesus, it is not the way of defeat, but resurrection. It takes a
faith that goes against our natural instincts to believe this. It
takes courage to risk acting on that faith.
El libro de la Sabiduría de la cual se toma la primera lectura fue
escrito alrededor del 100 A.C., la audiencia fue de los judíos de
la Diáspora viviendo en Alejandría en Egipto, bajo un severo
maltrato llevado a cabo por las autoridades debido a la envidia.
El autor de la Sabiduría aconseja a sus compañeros Judíos a
abrazar la sabiduría y utilizarla para entender la razón detrás del
sufrimiento que están pasando y mantener firme su religión
ancestral en su ambiente un tanto hostil.
Durante su tiempo, Santiago tomo una encuesta para
averiguar lo que era responsable de la elevada tasa de hostilidad
entre las personas. Se dio cuenta de que detrás de la fachada de
las luchas y peleas son la codicia y la pasión. La imagen de la
audiencia de Santiago es la misma de lo que está sucediendo
hoy en muchos países. Segun el, Cuando la pasión y la ambición excesiva estan en el trabajo y sabiduría cegado, no nos
relacionamos bien sino peliamos, matamos, estamos en desacuerdo, envidiamos y odiamos. Esta pasión y exceso de ambición filtrados en el colegio de los apóstoles. El Evangelio nos
presenta la controversia surgida entre los apóstoles acerca de
quién era el mas importante.
¿Qué puede un niño posiblemente enseñarnos acerca
de grandezas? Los niños en el mundo antiguo no tenían derechos, posición, o privilegios propios. Estaban socialmente en la
"parte inferior del escalón" y al servicio de sus padres, al igual
que el personal doméstico y empleado doméstico. Pero Jesús
elevó a un niño en presencia de sus discípulos, colocando al
niño en una posición privilegiada de honor. Él es el más grande
porque el niño es aquel que es humilde y humilde de corazón,
que en lugar de hacer valer sus derechos voluntariamente se
vacía de orgullo y gloria egoísta al tomar la posición humilde
de un siervo o un niño. Es de esta manera que realmente podemos creer y seguir a Jesús como verdaderos discípulos.
Jesús hoy nos desafía para hacer espacio para la energía infantil de confianza, de la risa, de la cooperación con otros
y sensible a las necesidades del otro. Así, si tenemos siete años
o noventa años de edad, o si fuimos el primero en nacer, o el
ultimo en nacer o el único niño de la familia, el mensaje de
Jesús desafía a todos nosotros a ser jóvenes de corazón. Esta es
la única manera que podemos pertenecer al reino de Dios. Una
manera de seguir a Jesús, no es la derrota, sino la resurrección.
Se necesita una fe que va en contra de nuestros instintos naturales para creer esto. Se necesita valor y riesgo para actuar sobre
esa fe.
For those of us, therefore, who wish to achieve greatness, Jesus
further challenges us to embrace selfless service. In our society today,
there is no prize for second place in our professional and collegiate
sports. You are either the champion or you forget it. Prize is given to
the one who puts in much and is able to take first place and deserve the
honor of greatness. In contradiction, Jesus is telling is that service
makes you what you are; greatness is the outcome of hard work and
industry. True greatness does not come from power, might and lording
over people as was the case in day of Jesus as well as today. God does
not want the greatness that comes from ambition and power; he wants
those who serve for the benefit and well-being of others like Mother
Teresa of Calcutta; those who serve with sincere and honest mind without playing pranks; those who serve their neighbor as if they are serving God. This is the kind of service that leads to greatness. You are
great because of the enormous services done with sincerity for the
good of humanity and glory of God. You are great because of your
suffering, dedication and commitment.
Para aquellos de nosotros, por lo tanto, que quieren lograr la
grandeza, Jesús nos desafía a abrazar el servicio desinteresado. En
nuestra sociedad hoy, no hay ningún premio para el segundo lugar en
nuestro deporte profesional y colegial. Usted es el campeón o se le
olvida. Premio se le da al que pone gran parte y es capaz de tomar el
primer lugar y merece el honor de la importancia. En contradicción,
Jesús está diciendo que el servicio te hace lo que eres; grandeza es el
resultado del trabajo duro y la industria. Verdadera grandeza no
proviene de la energía, poder y enseñorearse sobre el pueblo como fue
el caso en el día de Jesús, así como hoy. Dios no quiere la grandeza
que proviene de la ambición y el poder; él quiere que aquellos que
sirven para el beneficio y bienestar de otros como la madre Teresa de
Calcuta; aquellos que sirven con mente sincera y honesta sin jugar
bromas; aquellos que sirven a su vecino como si ellos sirvieran a Dios.
Este es el tipo de servicio que conduce a la grandeza. Son grandes
debido a los enormes servicios con sinceridad por el bien de la humanidad y la gloria de Dios. Son grandes debido a su sufrimiento, dedicación y compromiso.

your support of our event, "Choir Concert." Our event was a
great success and, it was ALL because of each one of you.
Whether you participated and assisted in our event, joined us
for a meal, or simply sat down and enjoyed our talented Choirs
perform; your PRESENCE was the key in making our vision &
prayers come true! God heard us all and truly made us ONE in
HIS love. The money side was good--thank you so much--and
you will soon see your generous contributions at work; however, the most wonderful part of our event, is that for the first
time, all of our Choirs united and shared the same stage in
giving all glory and honor to God! May God bless each of you
and your families, and may God continue to bless our Parish! I
leave you with my personal prayer for our Parish: "Dear God,
UNITED we succeed, DIVIDED we are sure to fail… please
let every member of this Parish remain united in our daily endeavors for your greater Glory…Amen!"

PRESENCIA de ustedes fue la clave en hacer realizada nuestra
