THE MYSTERY OF THE BLESSED TRINITY
Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most
Holy Trinity. The Church sets aside this Sunday to focus
our attention on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, God
who is one, but three persons—Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit.
The first reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes
both God’s awesome greatness and amazing nearness. It
might seem beyond belief, but the God of all creation
speaks to us, protects us, and guides us. The second reading
from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans describes how we
are to relate to the three persons who are one God. We are
led by the Spirit to meet God the Father as adopted
children. Our adoption is such that we are even heirs with
our brother, Christ, the second person of the Trinity, in
whose sufferings we must also share. In Matthew’s Gospel,
Jesus speaks with his authority as God and sends us to
teach and baptize in the name of the Trinity.

Dear Parishioners
There will be a very important meeting of the ushers and greeters of the parish at 7:00 pm in the
church. I would greatly appreciate the attendance of these two groups of ministers.
As you know from the insert this week, our cluster of parishes will have a week of adoration of
the Blessed Sacrament to prepare for next Sunday’s Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Our assigned day is
Thursday, June 7. All are invited to spend quiet time in adoration from 12:15 pm to the holy hour that
will begin at 7:30 pm.
On next Sunday, June 10, our liturgy committee would like to revive the custom of the outdoor
Corpus Christi procession. We will have, weather permitting, the procession following the 12:00 pm
mass on Sunday and will process on the sidewalk along the perimeter of the parish block.
We will stop in front of the Friary and in front of Holy Angels Academy for a blessing with the
Blessed Sacrament and will conclude the procession with the final blessing at the front door of the
church. All are welcome to this public demonstration of devotion to our Eucharistic Savior.
We will also mark the feast of St. Anthony, Wednesday, June 13, by blessing and distributing
bread in his name. We will do this at the 8:30 and 11:45 am masses. The 11:45 am mass that day will
be celebrated in church.
Advance notice: the bishops of the country have set aside the time from June 22 to July 4 as a
time of intense prayer for the rights of conscience and religious freedom guaranteed by the First
Amendment. More information will follow.
As you can see, June looks to be a busy month and graduation will be on Friday, June 15.
Let’s stay focused this week on the great gift of Christ in the Eucharist.
