The power of Paul’s testimony that everything is junk but knowledge of Jesus and the power of his resurrection is a straight enough message. And, God knows, Paul had a crooked journey before his blinding insight straight from God. Through Isaiah, God reminds us all that the past great works were as nothing compared to the new creation. “Can’t you see it?” we are asked, as if we are still wandering along our crooked lines. And there is no straighter line than that between the woman whose misery is intense and the God whose mercy in Jesus is deeper and more acute. You just can’t beat this kind of good news. I hope as many as possible will be able to participate in this Appeal which is vital to the life of our diocese. Gratitude is the word for today for the following reasons: 1) Bishop Massa’s pastoral visit to our parish last Sunday. Everyone present was impressed by his homily and the Parish Staff, the Pastoral Planning Council and the Finance Council appreciated the discussion he led in the friary. 2) Father Kevin Cronin, O.F.M.’s three day Lenten Retreat. Obviously, Father’s presentation at the Masses on the weekend whetted the appetites of so many of us. The attendance was great and Father’s message was so helpful during this Year of Mercy. In your name and in the name of us priests, I thank him for the graces he brought to OLA. 3) The St. Patrick-St. Joseph Show with Anthony Kearns was a great success and I am grateful to all the sponsors, those who purchased tickets, those who took chances on the 50/50, M and M Caterers, Arnie and Maria Fusco, Eileen Bongiorno, Dominic O’Regan and Vinny Estenez. Harry D’Onofrio won the 50/50 and we all congratulate him. This Thursday will be St Patrick’s Day and all are invited to the Cavanagh Room for soda bread after the 11:45am Mass, which will be celebrated in church. This Saturday will be St. Joseph’s Day and all are invited to the Cavanagh Room for Italian pastries after the 8:30am Mass. Next Sunday will be Palm Sunday and we will have a procession from the courtyard where the palm will be blessed at the 6:30pm Vigil and the 10:30am and 12:00pm Masses. Next Monday, March 21st, will be Reconciliation Monday and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 3:00pm to 9:00pm. The second collection on Palm Sunday will be the Easter Gift to the parish. Thank you for your consideration of the needs of the parish. Let’s pray for each other Msgr. Kevin B.
