“The Bishop as Priest”
The fourth in a series of articles on the office of the
bishop by members of the Archdiocesan Theologian
Commission
The bishop’s unique role as priest can be
experienced in a richly symbolic way at mass in
the cathedral when, at the altar, the bishop presides, accompanied by the whole people of God, composed of laity,
ministers, deacons, and priest-concelebrants. In order to understand
the beautiful symbolism contained in this liturgy we must recall
what priesthood is. For the Christian, the fundamental action of
priesthood is the “offering of gifts and sacrifices to God” (Heb. 5:1,
1 Peter 2:5). Through his death and resurrection Christ is the only
high priest, and all priesthood is a sharing in what Christ has done
for us (Heb. 5.1-10, 7:24-27). All of us who are baptized have received a share in Christ’s “royal priesthood” (also called the
“baptismal” or “common priesthood” of the faithful) which we constantly exercise by consecrating the world through our prayers and
actions, and especially when, together with Christ, we offer ourselves to the Father at the Eucharistic celebration.
BAPTISMS
Parents must come to the rectory one month in advance of the
date you wish to baptize, present a copy of birth certificate of
the child. Children have to be under 6 years of age; parents
and godparents must attend pre-baptismal classes, godparents
must be catholic and confirmed, if godparents are married couple they must be married in the catholic church and practicing;
also godparents must be 18 years and over. Donation: $30.
Please be advised that a $15 fee will be charged for changing
or canceling a date.

Those who share in the ministerial priesthood through the Sacrament of Orders are at the service of the baptized, and their sacramental ministry is ordered towards the unfolding of the baptismal
grace of all the faithful. In the cathedral liturgy we see the bishop,
who has received the fullness of the Sacrament of Orders, leading
and assisting the whole people of God in the exercise of the priesthood proper to their different vocations. In the early church this
communion, this unity within diverse forms of priestly offering,
was described as a musical harmony, as when St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote that the ordained ministers are “fitted to the bishop like
the strings of a harp”, enabling the whole people of God to “become
a choir, harmonious in love, singing to the Father through Jesus
Christ.”
The priestly ministry of the bishop is also visible, not only at the
cathedral, but also in our local parishes. As the chief shepherd of
the diocese who possesses the fullness of the Sacrament of Orders,
it is the bishop who ordains the priests and deacons who serve the
people of God in the diverse communities that make up the diocese.
It is the bishop who blesses the chrism and sacred oils that are distributed to the parishes and used in the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and the anointing of the sick. It is the bishop who authorizes priests to validly celebrate the sacrament of penance and to
regularly celebrate the Eucharist within the borders of his diocese.
It is the bishop who normally presides at the sacrament of confirmation, although he can delegate this responsibility to a priest. And it
is the bishop who solemnly consecrates buildings that serve as
places of worship. In all of these priestly acts the bishop is both a
symbol and a servant of communion, of the dynamic interrelationship that connects our local churches in the diocese with each other.

Finally, the bishop’s priesthood expresses an international communion that embraces the entire church. When a bishop exercises his
priesthood by ordaining another bishop he can do so legitimately
only with the participation of other bishops who represent the wider
church, and with the permission of the Holy See, representing the
church throughout the world. In this way the priestly ministry of
the bishop both ensures and reminds us that we are never alone:
united to one another in a communion that transcends all national
boundaries we are part of the whole mystical body of Christ, which
is also one body comprised of individual churches.

Este programa de catequesis es un proceso de evangelización
para jóvenes y adultos mayores de 18 años de edad ya bautizados, pero que no han recibido ni la Confirmación ni la Primera
Comunión. Está diseñado para todos los que desean conocer la
fe católica y quieren también comprometerse más profundamente en la comunidad a través de la evangelización. Para
inscribirse, solamente deben presentarse este Martes a las
7:00 pm en el salón # 12. Traiga copia del acta de bautismo.
Cuarto de una serie de artículos sobre el cargo de Obispo
por los miembros de la Comisión Teológica Arquidiocesana
El papel del obispo como sacerdote es único y puede
ser experimentado de una manera abundantemente
simbólica en la misa en la catedral cuando, en el
altar, el obispo preside acompañado por el pueblo de Dios compuesto
por laicos, ministros, diáconos, y sacerdotes-celebrantes. Para poder
comprender el bello simbolismo contenido en esta litúrgica debemos
recordar lo que es el sacerdocio. Para el cristiano, la acción fundamental del sacerdocio es el “ofrecimiento a Dios de dones y sacrificios” (Heb.5:1, 1 Pedro 2:5). A través de su muerte y resurrección
Cristo es el único alto sacerdote, y el sacerdocio es un compartir lo que
Cristo ha hecho por nosotros (Heb. 5:1-10, 7:24-27). Todos nosotros
los que hemos sido bautizados hemos recibido una parte del
“sacerdocio real” de Cristo (también llamado “bautismal” o
“sacerdocio común” de los fieles) el que constantemente ejercemos
consagrando al mundo por medio de nuestras oraciones y acciones, y
en especial cuando, unidos con Cristo, nos ofrecemos al Padre durante
la celebración eucarística.
BAUTISMOS EN EL SANTO ROSARIO
Los padres de los niños deben pasar a la Oficina Parroquial por lo
menos un mes antes de la fecha del bautismo para anotar a su hijo/a
para bautizar. Los padrinos deben ser mayores de edad y tener el Sacramento de la Confirmación, si son pareja deben estar casados por la
Iglesia Católica Romana y traer comprobante. Los niños para ser
bautizados en el proceso regular tiene que ser antes de que cumplan
los seis años de edad ya pasada esta edad serán enviados al proceso de
RICA. Traigan acta de nacimiento del niño/a. Se les pide una cooperación de $ 30.00.

Aquellos que comparten el sacerdocio ministerial a través del Sacramento de Órdenes están al servicio de los bautizados y su ministerio
sacramental es ordenado hacia el desarrollo de la gracia bautismal de
todos los fieles. En la liturgia de la catedral nosotros vemos al obispo,
quien ha recibido la plenitud del Sacramento de Órdenes, guiando y
asistiendo al pueblo entero de Dios en el ejercicio del sacerdocio propio a sus diferentes vocaciones. En la iglesia temprana esta comunión,
esta unidad dentro de formas diversas del ofrecimiento sacerdotal, era
descrita como una armonía musical, como cuando San Ignacio de Antioquía escribió que los ministros ordenados están “ajustados al obispo
como las cuerdas de un arpa”, permitiendo que todo el pueblo de Dios
se “haga un coro, armonioso en amor, cantando al Padre por medio de
Jesucristo.”
¡ADVERTENCIA!
El ministerio sacerdotal del Obispo está también visible no sólo en la
catedral, sino también en nuestras parroquias locales. Como pastor
principal de la diócesis que posee la plenitud del Sacramento de las
Órdenes, el obispo es quien ordena a los sacerdotes y a los diáconos
que sirven al pueblo de Dios en las diversas comunidades que componen la diócesis. Es el obispo es quien bendice la crisma y los santos
olios que se distribuyen a las parroquias y se usan en los sacramentos
del bautismo, la confirmación, y la unción de los enfermos. Es el obispo quien autoriza a los sacerdotes celebrar válidamente el sacramento
de la penitencia y regularmente celebrar la Eucaristía dentro de los
límites de la diócesis. Es el obispo quien normalmente preside en el
sacramento de la confirmación, aunque puede delegar esta responsabilidad a un sacerdote. Y es el obispo quien solemnemente consagra
edificios que sirven como lugares de oración. En todos estos actos
sacerdotales el obispo es ambos, un símbolo y un sirviente de comunión, de la relación dinámica que conecta a nuestras iglesias locales
una con las otras en la diócesis.
No todas las iglesias que usan el término “Católica” en su título
están en comunión con el Santo Padre ó bajo la jurisdicción del
obispo local Católico Romano. Por ejemplo, la “Iglesia de la Sagrada Familia” en la Calle Arminta, y la “Iglesia San Judas Tadeo” al número 11855 Hart St., North Hollywood, ubicadas dentro de los límites de la parroquia, están incluidas en esta categoría y no son Iglesias Católicas Romanas. Sus sacramentos no son
considerados válidos por nuestra Iglesia Católica Romana.

Finalmente, el sacerdocio del obispo expresa una comunico internacional que abarca a la iglesia entera. Cuando un obispo ejerce el sacerdocio ordenando a otro obispo él puede hacerlo legítimamente sólo con la
participación de otros obispos que representan la iglesia más amplia, y
con el permiso de la Santa Sede, representando a la iglesia a través del
mundo. De esta manera el ministerio sacerdotal del obispo nos asegura
y nos recuerda que nunca estamos solos: unidos unos a los otros en una
comunión que trasciende todas las fronteras nacionales nosotros somos
parte del cuerpo entero místico de Cristo, que es también un cuerpo
compuesto de iglesias individuales.

los jóvenes adolescentes que no han recibido su Primera Comunión comenzarán el 1 de junio en la oficina parroquial. Este programa es para los adolescentes de 13-17 años de edad que fueron bautizados
pero no han recibido la Primera Comunión. Hay
cupo limitado de 50 alumnos solamente. Las clases
iniciaran el 28 de junio y continuaran de lunes a jueves de 6:00 a 8:00 p.m. durante todo el mes de julio.
Al final del curso los participantes harán su Primera
Comunión. Es un requisito que presenten el Acta
de Bautismo y la cuota de inscripción de
$100-(incluye texto y Biblia).
