SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
May 12, 2013
“God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord .”
T
—
Psalm 47
PASTOR REFLECTION
he Ascension celebrates the departure of
the Risen Christ from this earthly life into
heaven where He sits at the “right hand of
the Father.” This is a farewell as well as a
new beginning. The Ascension of the Lord offers us a
wonderful opportunity to reflect on the meaning of our
Christian life.
presented a case against Jesus painting Him as an imposter
and blasphemer. As a result, He was not only falsely accused, but He was unjustly killed on the testimony
of “false” witnesses. Today, as we celebrate the Ascension, we, the new witnesses of Jesus, are called to “reopen” the Jesus Case and turn around the verdict passed
against Him.
The question of the angels in today’s first reading is
extremely important for us to take to heart. They ask the
apostles: “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there
looking at the sky?” Remembering that angels are
“messengers” of God, we should get the message loud and
clear – “Don’t stand around looking up in the sky, get to
work!” This farewell is also a summons to get to work to
build the Kingdom of God right here among
us. Why? Because “This Jesus who has been taken up
from you into heaven will return in the same way as you
have seen him going into heaven.” Jesus will return one
day and what will we offer Him on that day?
The tragic situation is that many who claim to be
Christian are continuing to bear “false” witness against
Him by our un-Christian lives. These past few weeks we
have heard a great deal in the Gospels about love, the love
Christ calls us to share and to live throughout our
lives. Now, we are called to make that love visible and
present because of our love for Jesus, a love that manifests
itself in self-less service to others for the building of the
Kingdom.

… The 2013 Vacation Bible
School!!
This year’s Vacation Bible School, “Cool Kingdom
Party, Mary Leads Me Closer to Jesus,” is scheduled
for the week of July 22-26. Sessions begin each day at
8:30 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 noon and is open to
children ages 3 years through 6th grade. Teens in
grades 7 –12 are welcome to participate as teen helpers.
This year’s VBS will help the children discover who
Mary is and how she leads us closer to her son Jesus,
as well as the importance of making Jesus KING of our
own lives. They’ll love the great songs and crafts and
we’re very enthusiastic about the wonderful faith lessons. Special snacks and mementos will be given out
each day to the children along with “take-home” sheets
that can be shared with the family.
Each day will focus on a different theme: Obedience - Mary said “Yes!” to God; Purity - Mary remained
pure her whole life, she never sinned; Mary is the
Queen of heaven and Earth - she brings our prayers
to Jesus, our true King; Jesus is the King and Lord of
our Lives; Build the Kingdom of God on Earth - with
the love and joy of Jesus in our hearts, we can each
make this a better place for us to live in.
The cost for participants is $25.00 / child or
$45.00 / family. (Teen and adult helpers are asked to
pay for their T-shirt, the cost will again be $8.00.) We
can still use lots of help, especially teachers and teacher’s aides. Registration forms are in the vestibule of the
church and at the church office. Please note that the
deadline for registration is Monday, June 10th. We look
forward to an exciting week of getting to know our
Blessed Mother in a loving and more spiritual way.

Ahora, estamos llamados a hacer
Ello exige compromiso y coraje. Nos llama a ser verdaderos testigos de
Cristo. Este es su mandamiento. Este es nuestro privilegio.

A Family Prayer for
The Year of Faith
O God, our Father, in Jesus you call all Christian Families and Homes to be Signs of Living Faith. By
the Light of the Holy Spirit, lead us to be Thankful for
the Gift of Faith, and by that Gift may we grow in our
relationship with Jesus, Your Son. And may we be confident Witnesses to Christian Hope and Joy to all we
meet. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
