NO TO RACISM
Welcome to Guadalajara and the fifth futsal final
tournament to be held in Spain – a country which has
been a leading light in the sport at club and national-team
levels. It is fitting to return to Spain 20 years after the
Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) helped UEFA give
momentum to international futsal by hosting a pioneer
tournament for national teams in Cordoba. As the saying
goes, the rest is history. Since then Spain has hosted the
1999 UEFA European Futsal Championship, in Granada,
and the UEFA Futsal Cup final tournaments in 2007 in
Murcia and 2012 in Lleida.
This season’s final tournament of the UEFA Futsal Cup
is also writing history. Pescara are the first club to come
right through from the preliminary round to the finals.
Ugra Yugorsk, meanwhile, defeated reigning champions
Kairat Almaty en route to Guadalajara, and the two
debutants from Italy and Russia will face two former
champions, SL Benfica and hosts Inter FS, in a
tournament that promises to be both spectacular
and impeccably organised.
Bienvenidos a Guadalajara y a la quinta competición
final de futsal que se celebra en España, un país que
ha sido faro de este deporte en el ámbito de clubes
y de selecciones. Es oportuno regresar a España 20
años después de que la Real Federación Española de
Fútbol (RFEF) ayudara a la UEFA a propulsar el futsal
internacional albergando un torneo pionero para
combinados nacionales en Córdoba. Como se suele decir,
el resto es historia. Desde entonces, España ha albergado
el Campeonato Europeo de Futsal 1999 en Granada, y las
fases finales de la UEFA Futsal Cup de 2007 en Murcia y
de 2012 en Lleida.
La fase final de esta temporada de la UEFA Futsal Cup
también está haciendo historia. El Pescara es el primer
club que llega aquí desde la ronda preliminar. El Ugra
Yugorsk, entretanto, derrotó al actual campeón, el Kairat
Almaty, de camino a Guadalajara. Ambos debutantes
se enfrentarán a sendos campeones anteriores, el

the UEFA Futsal Cup back to Spain. Organising the event
for a third time is another clear signal of our commitment
to the development of European futsal and I am sure
that this tournament will deliver another spectacular
advertisement for the indoor game.
The fact that none of last year’s finalists will be in
Guadalajara provides a striking indication of the highly
competitive nature of the UEFA Futsal Cup and the
progress made by many national associations and clubs in
a short space of time. To reach the final four represents a
major achievement and we offer sincere congratulations
to Pescara, Ugra Yugorsk, SL Benfica and, of course, our
host team Inter FS, who join us in giving a warm welcome
to our visitors from Italy, Portugal and Russia to this
magnificent venue at the very heart of Spain.

were the surprise packages of
a 49-strong field
For the first time since the four-team final tournament was
introduced in 2007, none of the previous year’s semifinalists are back to contest the trophy. Italian champions
Pescara broke new ground on their debut by becoming
the first side to advance to the semi-finals from the
preliminary round, and they are joined in Guadalajara by
fellow debutants Ugra Yugorsk from Russia. The qualifying
competition consisted of three stages, beginning in August
with the 29-team preliminary round. The eight group
winners progressed to the main round, when 16 more sides
joined the fray, in accordance with the UEFA coefficient
system. The top two in each of the six main round
sections proceeded to the elite round – where the seeded
champions Kairat Almaty as well as Inter FS, Astana-Tulpar
and KMF Ekonomac Kragujevac lay in wait. Elite round
group winners SL Benfica, Inter, Pescara and Ugra then
marched on to the final tournament.

As Spain returned to the summit of European futsal with
victory at UEFA Futsal EURO 2016, the Royal Spanish
Football Federation (RFEF), in partnership with UEFA,
has been using its expertise to help improve the game
across the continent.
The RFEF’s Las Rozas headquarters was the base for
the launch of a futsal coach education seminar in 2013
involving former Spain coach Javier Lozano. The seminar
was funded by UEFA’s HatTrick programme, which invests in
development and educational projects throughout Europe.
HatTrick also provided funds towards the renovation of the
Las Rozas football complex in 2004 and has since assisted
in the launch of the RFEF’s Fenix project – an IT football
administration support system. HatTrick also helped
finance the construction of conference facilities and the
introduction of a new security system at Las Rozas.
“The UEFA HatTrick programme is of major
importance to the development of European football,”
said Ángel María Villar Llona, RFEF president and UEFA
first vice-president. “In Spain, we have been able to
streamline the management of football and, at the
same time, we have created a comprehensive information
source that is not only reliable and up to date, but also
accessible nationwide.”

con su triunfo en la UEFA Futsal EURO 2016, la Real
Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF), en asociación con la
UEFA, contribuía a la mejora del juego en el continente.

seminario se financió con fondos del programa HatTrick de

para el desarrollo en toda Europa. HatTrick contribuyó a la
renovación del complejo deportivo de Las Rozas en 2004,
y a la puesta en marcha del proyecto Fénix de la RFEF, un
sistema informático de gestión. Además, ha ayudado a
financiar las instalaciones para conferencias y el nuevo
sistema de seguridad de Las Rozas.
“El programa HatTrick de la UEFA es capital para el
desarrollo del fútbol europeo”, ha declarado Ángel María

'WE AIM TO WIN'
First-time national champions last June, the team from Yugorsk
– the gas capital of Russia with a population of 36,000 – have
since turned heads in Europe as well. Ugra’s six straight wins in
qualifying marked a formidable UEFA Futsal Cup debut, including
a 5-2 elite round victory against Kairat Almaty which ultimately
sealed qualification at the reigning champions’ expense. Coach
Kakà offers a similarly forceful declaration of intent. “We aim to
win every competition,” he said. “That’s why we’ve risen to this
level, to lift trophies.” The presence of Eder Lima, the qualifying
rounds’ 13-goal overall leading marksman, merely enhances his
case. “Our strength is the quality of our squad,” adds Kakà, whose
Russian international contingent includes recent UEFA Futsal
EURO runners-up Dmitri Lyskov, Vladislav Shayakhmetov, Robinho,
Daniil Davydov and Lima. Ugra have prospered in exile in Moscow
this term amid stadium redevelopment work back home.

Almaty in qualifying, Ugra Yugorsk forward Dmitri Lyskov
believes the Russian champions have nothing to fear in
Guadalajara as they bid to end their first UEFA Futsal Cup
campaign on an incredible high.
Tras haber contribuido a la eliminación del defensor del título,
el Kairat Almaty, Dmitri Lyskov, delantero del Ugra Yugorsk,

“Beating Kairat was a huge confidence boost in the
elite round, but the final four is a completely different
tournament. All four teams are really strong and anyone
can win. We’re the Russian champions and our domestic
league is very tough. Maybe our UEFA opponents haven’t
seen so much of it, but our team is really strong and we
fight very hard. Vladislav Shayakhmetov and Robinho
[both UEFA Futsal Cup winners] are two great players
with a lot of experience. During our first few games they
convinced us we didn’t need to be nervous. Although I
think it’s only natural to be nervous as this is our first time
in the competition, all our players know our strengths and
weaknesses. We know our level and what we have to do to
get the result. Kakà, our coach, is very good at analysing
opponents. He’s a great tactician and motivator as well
and we’ve been growing as a team since his arrival. The
atmosphere is really friendly inside the club and I think it’s
a big part of our success.”

'GREAT HEART'
“At Benfica we only think about winning.” That was the
message from defender Mário Freitas as the Portuguese
champions entered 2016 looking to claim their second
European title, having beaten Inter FS in the final in Lisbon six
years ago. Not that qualification came easily for Joel Rocha’s
men, who lost 5-4 to Slov-Matic Bratislava in the elite round
and needed to hold their nerve to beat Lokomotiv Kharkiv
2-0 in their final game to take top spot from the Ukrainians
on head-to-head. Italian international Alessandro Patias
caught the eye in qualifying with nine goals and is Benfica’s
inspiration. For Rocha, though, it was the team’s fighting spirit
that was key to reaching their first finals since 2011. “We
always battle until the end,” he said. “We showed great heart
in the elite round and I believe in my players.”

against Inter FS in 2010. After a tense qualifying campaign
this time around, the 32-year-old is delighted to be back
with another shot at the trophy – even if it does mean
coming up against Europe’s most feared sharp-shooter.

Seven players who helped illuminate the UEFA Futsal
EURO final in February will be in action during the UEFA
Futsal Cup finals. It would have been eight had Russia
pivot Eder Lima not missed the showpiece in Belgrade
through suspension. He is one of five internationals who
will be wearing the shirt of Russia’s champions Ugra
Yugorsk, looking to bury the memory of their 7-3 defeat
against Spain in the spectacular Belgrade final.
Robinho, who scored one goal and strived valiantly
to keep alive Russian hopes in the final, is one of three
players here in Guadalajara who were selected for UEFA’s
All-Star Squad at the EURO finals. The others were that
tournament’s joint-top scorers with six goals each: Mario
Rivillos and his celebrated Inter FS team-mate, Ricardinho.
Hailed as ‘futsal’s Lionel Messi’, Ricardinho’s stunning goal
against Serbia has been watched by millions worldwide
and his strike against Spain was not far short in terms of
creative wizardry.

Ricardinho was not the only purveyor of outrageous
goals in Belgrade. Rivillos, who shared four goals with
his Inter team-mate Adrián Pola in the final, produced
moments of pure magic, while Alessandro Patias,
SL Benfica’s top scorer on the road to Guadalajara with
nine goals, rounded off Italy’s 7-0 win against the Czech
Republic with a wonderfully impudent back-heeled
goal. And, going back to UEFA EURO 2014 in Belgium,
Eder Lima brought the crowd to its feet with a stunning
overhead scissors kick that earned Russia a 4-4 draw
with Ricardinho’s Portugal and was rated the goal of the
tournament. Lima delivered a letter of intent by scoring
13 times during Ugra’s charge into the final four here.
Plenty of talent on show in Spain, then. Three shotstoppers have also come from Belgrade to Guadalajara.
Curiously, two of them are in the Benfica squad: Spain’s
substitute keeper Juanjo and Bebé, who will be hoping to
recover from Portugal’s 6-2 quarter-final defeat by Spain,
when Rivillos scored twice. Spain’s other unused keeper,
Jesús Herrero, is one of four Inter players who lifted the
trophy in Belgrade, while the Ugra squad features five of
the players who returned to Russia with silver medals.
In total, 19 players from UEFA Futsal EURO 2016 will
be on show in Guadalajara. The question now is, which
of them will make the greatest impact? All eyes will be
on Inter’s four Spanish internationals, to see if they can
achieve a magnificent EURO and UEFA Futsal Cup double.

A star performer in the UEFA Champions League and
German Bundesliga, Douglas Costa has won an army of
new admirers in his first season with FC Bayern München.
Yet without his formative experiences in futsal, the brilliant
Brazilian international winger would not be the player he
is. Just as the extravagantly gifted Pelé, Socrates and Zico
once cited the positive influence of ‘futebol de salāo’ on
their game, so too does Douglas Costa. “I started playing
aged 10 and stopped at 15, but it helped my development
– especially trying to get out of small spaces when you are
man-marked and with no time to spare,” he says.
The small-sided sport actually originated in Uruguay but
Brazil has done its best to claim it as its own. Douglas Costa
acknowledges its legacy, both for his country and for him on
a personal level.
“Players like Ronaldinho and Neymar started in futsal
schools. Denílson loved playing too, looking for things to
take onto the soccer pitch. Doing everything quickly, that’s
what I try to do on the field today, that’s what I learned
from futsal. The way you have to move in futsal also
impresses me,” the 25-year-old says.
A decade ago Douglas Costa was establishing himself in
Grêmio’s youth ranks, making his senior debut three years
later. Come 2010 he joined FC Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine,
where his trophy haul included a domestic treble and he
went on to earn international recognition before a €30m
transfer to Bayern last summer.
Along the way, he has mixed it with the very best –
and he names Manuel Neuer, Xavi Hernández, Neymar
and Robert Lewandowski among his favourite modern
footballers. However, he remains unequivocal about
the value of a futsal education. “I think all children like
futsal. Making quick decisions, moving fast when you’re in
difficulties on the pitch; it teaches you a lot. I’m passionate
about this sport.”

Pescara will look to follow the example of Italian compatriots
Montesilvano, who lifted the UEFA Futsal Cup at the first
attempt in 2011. Pescara, who won the Italian Cup in March,
are the first team to reach the final tournament from the
preliminary round, thanks in large part to ten-goal top scorer
Rogerio Da Silva who, like coach Fulvio Colini, Cristian Borruto,
Fabricio Calderolli, Ricardo Caputo and Leandro Cuzzolino,
were part of the Montesilvano fairy tale. New signing and
former Inter player Betão, meanwhile, brings a wealth of
experience, including a FIFA Futsal World Cup winner’s medal
with Brazil. With a first league championship secured last
term, Pescara will feel this is their moment to make history.
“The core of the Scudetto-winning team is still here and
several other players joined us,” Colini said. “We’ll try to find
the right intensity to exploit our potential to the full.”

but not for the club, who have built a very good team and
have always dreamt of this. We believe in ourselves, we
are playing with confidence and we want to justify the

of European futsal we have to approach these finals with
joy but also with great commitment. A big core of the
Montesilvano side that won in 2011 play for us now and
they all know how to win it. Betão sets a great example.
To see a player who has already won everything working

sides at international level. It's a dream I've had since I was
a boy and now it's coming true.”

No club can match Inter FS’s haul of three UEFA Futsal
Cups and the Spanish heavyweights are targeting title No4
in Guadalajara as they end a six-year exile from the finals.
Having witnessed Barcelona’s rise, Inter won the domestic
crown in both 2014 and 2015; restoring European glory is
next on the agenda for Jesús Velasco’s team. Goalkeeper
and captain Luis Amado calls the current side “the best
I have played in”, hailing their “work-rate, quality and
character”. Featuring four of Spain’s UEFA Futsal EURO
winners (Mario Rivillos, Pola, Carlos Ortiz and Jesús Herrero)

further highlighted that Ricardinho is a master at the peak
of his art. O Mágico, the Magician, is now ready to cast his
spell on the UEFA Futsal Cup, a competition he won with
SL Benfica against his current club Inter FS in 2010.
“It was an unbelievable atmosphere, unique,” Ricardinho
says, recalling that triumph. “I hope we have an
atmosphere like that again in Guadalajara. Looking down
on everybody else from the stands where the trophy was
given to us, it was like touching heaven. Winning the
most important club competition in the world cannot be
explained, you have to experience it. Facing Benfica now
would be painful because that’s the club of my heart, but
I’m professional and I want to win no matter who we’re
playing. Whenever I’m on the pitch my only thought is to
play at my best without pressure or fear. My only aim is
to win the match and to give joy to all the fans who come
and pay to see us play. I started playing football when I
was six and changed to futsal when I was 14. Since then
it has been a never-ending passion for me. My parents
may not have always had the money to buy me a ball –
sometimes I played with oranges, other times with
socks rolled up as a ball – but yes, I always had a ‘ball’
at my feet.”

el terreno de juego, sólo pienso en hacerlo lo mejor posible
sin presiones ni miedos. Mi único objetivo es ganar el

para vernos jugar. Empecé en el fútbol cuando tenía seis
años y me cambié al futsal a los 14. Desde entonces,
este deporte nunca ha dejado de apasionarme. Como
mis padres no siempre tenían dinero para comprarme un
balón, a veces jugaba con naranjas y a veces con calcetines
enrollados, pero siempre he tenido un ‘balón’ en los pies”.

type of pressure and playing in
front of big crowds with a lot
at stake will be good for us. This is the most important
trophy in our sport; winning it means you are the best
team in Europe. It had been a while since we last won the
league and got into the Futsal Cup so we’ve been looking
forward to this for a long time. We’ve finally managed it
and now as hosts in Guadalajara we’ll give everything to
win it. Guadalajara is a beautiful city, there’s a lot to see
and do. Futsal will take over. It’s a big arena, new and very
modern, and it will put on a great show. There will be a
good atmosphere and the fans will enjoy themselves a lot.
Madrid is right next door, so they can get to know it as well.
If you go to Madrid, you have to try the Cocido Madrileño
– a typical local dish [consisting of soup, chickpeas and a
selection of meats]. Spanish cuisine is excellent and every
tapas bar has great food. You must also go for a walk in the
centre of Madrid. There’s a lot to see!”

acostumbrados a este tipo de presión, y nos beneficia

años desde la vez anterior que ganamos la liga y jugamos
la Futsal Cup, así que hace mucho que esperamos este
momento. Ahora, de anfitriones en Guadalajara, lo
daremos todo para triunfar. Guadalajara es muy bonita,
con muchas cosas para ver y hacer, pero el futsal se
convertirá en su atracción principal. La ciudad tiene un
palacio de deportes grande, nuevo y muy moderno, que
ofrecerá un magnífico espectáculo. El ambiente será
fantástico y la afición se divertirá. Madrid está justo al lado,
de manera que podréis conocer la capital. Si vais a Madrid,

ACCUMULATED FOULS

Once a team commit five fouls in one half,
for every subsequent foul their opponents
get a free shot at goal from the second
penalty mark, ten metres out. If the foul
is closer to goal, the shot can be taken
from where the infringement occurred. At
half-time both foul counts are erased but
not prior to either extra-time period, where
second-half fouls still count.

any time during play provided a player
does not go on before his team-mate
comes off – and enters from the zone
marked in front of each bench. Players can

Each match comprises two 20-minute
halves, with a timekeeper stopping the
clock when the whistle blows. If a game
is drawn, two five-minute periods of extra
time ensue, followed by a penalty shoot-out
if the scores remain level. Coaches can call a
60-second time-out during each half; there
are no time-outs in extra time.

An outfield player can come on and off
as substitute for the goalkeeper, but the
referee must ensure this so-called flying
goalkeeper wears a keeper’s jersey with
his own number – and that all of a team’s
flying goalkeepers wear the same colour
(different from standard keepers’ and
outfield players’).

REANUDACIÓN
Se dan cuatro segundos para reanudar
el juego en un saque de banda o en un
tiro libre. En las jugadas a balón parado o
cuando el portero tiene el balón, el árbitro
levanta un brazo y cuenta los cuatro
segundos con los dedos.
