School Office: (805) 648-6836 Weekly Reflection Reflexión Semanal Anticipating our heavenly home Anticipando nuestra casa celestial Today’s readings and prayers remind us that we are called to be saints. This is an ongoing journey as we negotiate the trials of our world. We are reminded in the gospel to live lives of merciful love. The beatitudes call us to become one with our brothers and sisters who are hurting and in need. This is the path to sainthood. Today’s Preface lifts our hearts to God as we pray and “celebrate the festival of your city, the heavenly Jerusalem, where the great array of our brothers and sisters already gives you eternal praise.” We are reminded that we are “pilgrims advancing by faith, rejoicing in the glory bestowed upon those exalted members of the Church through whom you give us, in our frailty, both strength and good example.” What a beautiful grace – knowing that there are so many people, all the saints in heaven, who are interceding on our behalf. Saint John encourages us saying, “Beloved, we are God’s children now, what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” When we pause and realize that all the holy people who have gone before us are experiencing this beatific vision, we are overwhelmed. All of the recognized saints and those millions of others which include our families and friends join us in prayer as we “implore God’s grace, so that, coming to perfect holiness in the fullness of [His] love, we may pass from this pilgrim table to the banquet of our heavenly homeland” (Prayer After Communion). (Oración después de la Comunión) Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service. Confirmation 1 & 2 November 1 – Confirmation 2: The Holy Spirit November 8 -- Confirmation 1: RCIA – Right of Christian Initiation of Adults I lived most of my life as an atheist. I once believed that because I went to school and took science classes, I already knew everything about how the world and the universe works. Who needs religion right? Well a few years ago I married my wonderful wife who's Catholic. So I thought I would get in her good side and go to church with her every week. So there I was sitting at the back of the church and thinking wow what a nice group of people. My wife then exclaimed "wow did you hear the choir? I have to go sing with them!" So, thinking I would really get some major points, I joined the choir with her! Our amazing choir was so loving and welcoming even though I wasn't Catholic! I left Mass every week with such a wonderful feeling! Then my wife and I joined the Living Matrimony small group and it was the same heart warming experience! I then realized maybe science class DIDN'T teach me everything I needed to know. So last summer when it was announced that RCIA was starting, I wanted to go - but did I have to go "back to school"? ...Please visit our website , www.olaventura.com to continue the story! We meet Tuesdays at 7pm in the Santa Cruz Room. For more information contact Deacon Don & Diana Huntley via email at [email protected] or by phone at (805) 642-7966 x123. Monitor online activity on all devices In the past, parents had been advised to place the family computer in an open area such as a kitchen or family room so that they may easily monitor activity. Today, most social contact, especially among young people, is conducted almost exclusively on smart phones and tablets. Technology continues to rapidly change. All of us must continue our efforts to stay abreast of the many new mobile device apps that may be used by young people to communicate with others and could potentially be used to manipulate or abuse them.
