Principal’s Newsletter – Toby Martin
The 2016-17 school year has begun and we are so excited to see the familiar faces of
our returning students, as well as those of students who are new to our building this
year. The Mead Stampede was a great success. On the evening of Tuesday, August 23
we opened our doors to Mead students and families. This was an opportunity for
parents to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and enjoy hotdogs, chips, cookies and
drinks. We also dedicated the skateboard rack memorial to Devon Cooley. It was an
inspiring evening.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce our upcoming PARENT-TEACHER
CONFERENCES. Mead’s fall conferences are scheduled for October 19 and 20. Specific
information from teachers will be coming home soon.
School Attendance
Research shows that
when students miss
school 10% or more of
the time, their academic
performance is negatively
impacted and the
likelihood of them being
academically successful
diminishes.
Consider that this 10% is
approximately the same
as missing 2 school days
a month, or 18 school
days in a year.
Students having this poor
degree of attendance are
considered to be
“Chronically Absent”.
When students improve
their attendance rates
they improve their
academic prospects and
chances for graduating.
Regular attendance is
important.
This year, once again, Mead students will embark upon a building wide campaign we
call “Guidelines for Success”. These guidelines are simply some global goals that are
intended to guide our actions and behaviors in a way that makes each of us
successful at school, in the community, and at home. We are using the word DREAM
as an acronym to help us remember each of our 5 success guidelines. Lessons and
activities were developed by Mead staff members and shared with students on
September 2. We are challenging our students to dare to dream because we know
that success isn’t a matter of luck – it requires practice, study, and strategy.

Dear Mead parents:
The teachers and staff are excited about providing you with another year full of
excitement and learning. We welcome you to visit our school any time to talk
about your child and his or her progress during the year.
You may have heard us talk a number of times about the federal No Child Left
Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 in our school and in our district. One of the key
provisions of that federal plan is to make sure our schools have the most highly
qualified teachers in the classroom that we can possibly have. We believe we are
working hard to do just that! In fact, should you wish to receive information about
the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers, NCLB allows you to ask and
our school to provide the following:




Whether the teacher has met state qualifications and licensing criteria
for the grade levels and subjects taught;
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional
license or whether licensing criteria have been waived;
The teacher's degree major and any other graduate certification or
degree held; and
Whether the child is provided services by a paraprofessional, and if so
their qualifications.
If you would like to receive any of this information, please feel free to submit your
request to me in writing and I will gladly follow up with you. If you have any
questions about No Child Left Behind and its impact on our school, don’t hesitate

Los maestros y el personal están contentos de proporcionarles otro año lleno de emoción y aprendizaje.
Los invitamos a visitar nuestra escuela en cualquier momento para hablar de su hijo(a) y su progreso
durante el año.
Nos habrán escuchado hablar muchas veces sobre la Ley del 2001 “Qué Ningún Niño se Quede Atrás”
(No Child Left Behind - NCLB). Una de las disposiciones principales de ese plan federal, es asegurar
que nuestras escuelas tienen en los salones de clase los maestros más altamente calificados que nos es
posible tener. Creemos que estamos trabajando duro para lograr justamente eso. De hecho, si a ustedes
le gustaría recibir información sobre las calificaciones de los maestros del salón de clase de su hijo(a),
la Ley NCLB le permite preguntarnos y a nuestra escuela responderles sobre lo siguiente:




Si el maestro reúne las calificaciones necesarias y el criterio de licencia que requiere el
estado para el nivel de grado y las materias que está enseñando;
Si el maestro está enseñando bajo una licencia provisional o de emergencia o si el criterio
de licencia ha sido suprimido;
El grado de la maestra y cualquier otra certificación de graduación o grado que ostente; y
Si un asistente del maestro le está proporcionando servicios al niño y si es así, cuáles son
sus calificaciones.
Si le gustaría recibir cualquiera de esta información, pueden solicitármelo por escrito y con gusto se las
daré. Si tiene cualquier pregunta sobre la Ley Federal Qué Ningún Niño se Quede Atrás” (No Child

để chỉ thực hiện cho điều đó! Thật tế, nếu quí vị muốn để nhận các thông tin về việc sự
