PARISH INFORMATION
BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at 1:30 PM on the Second Sunday of the month in Spanish and the
Third Sunday of the month in English. Parents need to contact the rectory to set up an appointment to make arrangements
for the baptism of their child and register for the baptismal class which is held the First Tuesday of each month in Spanish
and the Second Tuesday of each month in English. Baptisms in Vietnamese can be arranged by contacting Fr. Vincent.
EL BAUTISMO: El sacramento del Bautismo es celebrado a la 1:30 PM cada Segundo domingo del mes en español y
cada tercer domingo del mes en Inglés. Los padres del niño/a deben pedir una cita con la rectoría para ponerse de acuerdo
con requisitos para el bautismo y también inscribirse para la charla pre bautismal que se lleva acabo cada primer martes
del mes en español y cada segundo martes del mes en ingles. Los bautismos en vietnamita pueden ser arreglados con el
Padre Vicente.

As many of you know, I am the oldest of seven children, six
boys and one lucky girl. (As we often reminded our sister.)
Being the oldest certainly had its advantages: no hand-me
downs, new clothes and toys all the time; got to ride in the
front seat when it was just the kids. But then there were
disadvantages as well. I was the babysitter when Mom and
Dad went out. I was the one who had to help my siblings
with their homework and my parents with the chores. And
when old enough to drive, I was the one who had to pick my
siblings up from practices and rehearsals. I had to be the
responsible one. And when I would complain to my mother
she would simply say: “Tom, you have the unenviable right
of being the first born.” When Mom first said that I didn't
understand what she meant. Now I do.
Ah yes, I am much like the older son in our parable today.
Just like the older son could not understand why his father
was having this great party for Junior who spent his
inheritance on the stuff of the world, I would often complain
to my parents. Why does Jimmy (my youngest brother) get
to stay out later than I ever did? Why do I have to pick him
up at school when I had to walk or hitchhike home? Like the
eldest in our story, I too asked, why? why? and why? I was
not happy that Jimmy or my other siblings managed to get
more stuff, more permissions, and have an easier life than
poor Tommy Higgins. Of course, as I got older and a little
more mature I understood that my parents did not love me
any less or take advantage of me any more, just because of
birth order.
Recently I read an article on today’s gospel. The quote
from Sister Sue Mosteller rang true to me. She said:
“Whether you are the younger son or the elder son,
you have to realize that you are called to become the father.”
The father in the parable is open and accepting of his
youngest son’s wishes. He offers absolute forgiveness
when the son returns to him with nothing. And he
demonstrates this same love and concern for his oldest
son. Of course, the father in our parable represents God,
our Father in heaven, and the two sons represent you and
me at different stages or phases of our lives.
Yes, each of us needs to become like the Father. What a
challenge! Not easy to be like God, but that is what our faith
calls us to. It is our mission in life. That is why Pope Francis
has declared this Year of Mercy. We began our Lenten
journey by receiving a small plastic card for your keychain or
desk. The quote from our Holy Father reads:
“Let the Church always be a place of mercy and hope,
where everyone is welcomed, loved and forgiven.”
Substitute “the Church” with your name and “a place” with
person. And then ask yourself the question: Am I that
person? If yes, mission accomplished. If no, keep on
praying.

CHILDREN’S SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia is now
accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year.
These scholarships are available to low-income students
in grades K-8th grade and are awarded by random
lottery. To be eligible, families must: meet income
requirements, be residents of Philadelphia, have a child
entering grades K-8th in fall 2016 and complete the

Tenemos que poner las cosas
en orden. Cuando Josué y el
pueblo de Dios llegaron a la
tierra prometida y cuando el
hijo pródigo regresa a la casa de su padre hay una
gran alegría. En esta Cuaresma milenaria se nos
llama a volver a casa, a la reconciliación con Dios,
con la comunidad de fe, con nuestras familias y

Clases de la apologética: defensa de la fe católica
Esta Cuaresma nuestra parroquia ofrecerá
clases de cómo defender la fe católica y
profundizar en conocimiento de la fe. Las clases
se darán en el salón parroquial (el gimnasio)
los miércoles de la Cuaresma (9 de marzo, 16 de
marzo, y 23 de marzo) de las 7:00 a las 8:30pm.
Los temas incluirán los sacramentos, la Biblia,
la Virgen María, la Iglesia, y más. Los
presentadores serán el Padre Tomás Viviano, el
Diácono Andrés Carrillo, y el Señor Alexis

Bautismo de los Niños
Si quiere bautizar a un niño, hay
que llamar a la rectoría al 215743-2600 para hacer una cita
con un sacerdote para arreglar
los detalles del bautismo. No se
puede ir a la clase pre-bautismal
sin haberse reunido con el sacerdote primero. También,
para bautizar en los Santos Inocentes hay que estar
registrado aquí. Se puede hacer una cita para
registrarse, o se puede registrar cuando venga para
hablar del bautismo.
Finalmente, cuando está escogiendo a sus padrinos,
tenga en cuenta que la responsabilidad principal de
un padrino es dar buen ejemplo al ahijado de lo que
es vivir bien la fe católica. Por eso, para ser padrino,
hay que haber recibido todos los sacramentos
(bautismo, confirmación, comunión), estar registrado y
participando en la iglesia (en esta parroquia u otra),
y si es casado, ser casado por la Iglesia.
Gracias por su atención en estos asuntos. Que Dios le
brinde muchas bendiciones a su familia.

Consideremos el sentido de la palabra
"pródigo". En el Evangelio de hoy, vemos dos
significados de esta palabra: "demasiado
gastador", como el hijo que derrochó la
fortuna que le dio su padre; o bien,
"sumamente generoso" o "abundante". En
esta historia, el padre también es pródigo, en
el sentido de que otorgó perdón abundante,
cuando el hijo regresó arrepentido. Hablamos
del prodigio o maravilla del amor. Hay veces
que el amor no tiene explicación intelectual,
pero nos maravillamos de la vida que florece
del perdón amoroso. ¿A quién necesitas
perdonar? ¿Qué parte de la herencia de Dios
has derrochado? ¿Acaso tu arrepentimiento
te conduce hacia tu hogar?

Israel không còn ăn manna nữa, nhưng họ ăn thổ sản năm
đó của xứ Canaan.
Đó là lời Chúa.

Đáp: Các bạn hãy nếm thử và hãy nhìn coi, cho biết
Chúa thiện hảo nhường bao (c. 9a).
1) Tôi chúc tụng Chúa trong mọi lúc, miệng tôi hằng liên lỉ
ngợi khen Người. Trong Chúa linh hồn tôi hãnh diện, bạn
nghèo hãy nghe và hãy mừng vui.
2) Các bạn hãy cùng tôi ca ngợi Chúa, cùng nhau ta
hãy tán tạdanh Người. Tôi cầu khẩn Chúa, Chúa đã
nhậm lời, và Người đã
cứu tôi khỏi mọi điều lo sợ.
3) Hãy nhìn về Chúa để các bạn vui tươi, và các bạn
khỏi hổ ngươi bẽ mặt. Kìa người đau khổ cầu cứu và
Chúa đã nghe, và Người đã cứu họ khỏi mọi điều tai
nạn.

tín hữu Côrintô.
Anh em thân mến, nếu ai ở trong Đức Kitô, thì người
đó sẽ là một thụ tạo mới, những gì là cũ đã qua đi:
này đây tất cả mọi sự đã trở thành mới. Vì mọi sự bởi
Thiên Chúa, Đấng đã nhờ Đức Kitô giao hoà chúng ta
với mình, và trao phó cho chúng tôi chức vụ giao hoà.
Thật vậy, Thiên Chúa là Đấng giao hoà thế gian với
chính mình Người trong Đức Kitô, nên không kể chi
đến tội lỗi của loài người, và đặt lên môi miệng chúng
tôi lời giao hoà. Nên chúng tôi là sứ giả thay mặt Đức
Kitô, như chính Chúa dùng chúng tôi mà khuyên bảo.
Vì Đức Kitô, chúng tôi van nài anh em hãy giao hoà
với Thiên Chúa. Đấng không hề biết tội, thì Thiên
Chúa làm nên thân tội vì chúng ta, để trong Ngài,
chúng ta trở nên sự công chính của Thiên Chúa. Đó là
lời Chúa.
