President’s Message
On behalf of the ESS PTA I’d like to thank and congratulate all the newly
elected PTA Board Members for the 2015-16 school year. Whether you’re
new to the board or continuing to serve, your willingness to volunteer
is greatly appreciated. We’re looking for volunteers to work on and chair
our committees for next year. If there’s an event you love at our school
and would like to help let me know. The ESS PTA sponsors and supports
many events and activities throughout the school year and wants to
ensure teachers receive the help they need. We can’t do this without
volunteers to lead our PTA.
Thanks for a wonderful two years and see you around the school!

En nombre de la PTA de ESS Me gustaría dar las gracias y felicitar a todo
el recién elegido PTA Miembros de la Junta para el año escolar 2015-16.
Si eres nuevo en el tablero o continuar sirviendo, su voluntad de voluntarios es muy apreciada. Estamos buscando voluntarios para trabajar
en nuestros comités y silla para el próximo año. Si hay un evento que
amas en nuestra escuela y le gustaría ayudar, hágamelo saber. Los patrocinadores ESS PTA y es compatible con muchos eventos y actividades

ESS Eats Out: May 13 at Papa John’s
Thanks for coming to El Golfo to support ESS! The
next Eats Out will be one you can do from home! Papa
John’s is sponsoring a Dough-raising event for ESS on
May 13. Details will be in flyers going home the week
prior to the event and also on the PTA listserve.

Panda Profiles:
Ms. Alfred, Kindergarten
Where are you from and how long have you been at ESS?
I was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC and attended Fayetteville
State University where I received my BS. I received my Masters at
McDaniel College in Maryland. I’ve been at ESS for 28 years and
next year, I‘ll be approaching 30 years in MCPS.
What do you most enjoy about being at ESS?
I love this community and the staff here at ESS! ESS has always felt
like home to me, from the minute I step through the door! I enjoy
teaching and exposing children to a variety of experiences to help
them grow academically as well as socially in preparation for the real
world.
What changes have you seen in your career at ESS?
I’ve experienced teaching early childhood grades (K-3) and had
opportunities for leadership roles and developing my sense of
creativity in the arts and writing. ESS has also given me the encouragement and inspiration I need for writing children’s literature. I’ve
also had the pleasure of seeing ESS extend into a Pre-K to 5th grade
school.
What have been your favorite moments at ESS?
I cherished the opportunity of being a Reading Initiative teacher as
well as being trained to be a Gifted and Talented Liaison for ESS for
several years. My most prized moments have been visits from former
students I’ve taught over the years. This gives me so much joy!

¿De dónde eres y cuánto tiempo has estado en el ESS?
Nací y crecí en Fayetteville, Carolina del Norte y asistí a la Universidad Estatal de Fayetteville donde recibí mi BS. Recibí mi maestría
en McDaniel College en Maryland. He estado en ESS durante 28
años y el año que viene, voy a estar acercando a 30 años en MCPS.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de estar en ESS?
Me encanta esta comunidad y el personal aquí en ESS! ESS ha
sentido siempre como en casa para mí, desde el momento que entras
por la puerta! Me gusta enseñar y exponer a los niños a una variedad
de experiencias para ayudarles a crecer académicamente y socialmente en la preparación para el mundo real.
¿Qué cambios ha visto en su carrera en ESS?
He experimentado la enseñanza de los grados de la primera infancia
(K-3) y tuvo oportunidades para puestos de liderazgo y desarrollar
mi sentido de la creatividad en las artes y la escritura. ESS también
me ha dado el estímulo y la inspiración que necesito para escribir
literatura infantil. También he tenido el placer de ver ESS extienden
en un Pre-K a la escuela quinto grado.
¿Cuáles han sido sus momentos favoritos en ESS?
Yo apreciaba la oportunidad de ser un maestro Iniciativa de Lectura,
además de ser entrenado para ser un enlace Dotados y Talentosos
para ESS durante varios años. Mis momentos más preciados han sido
las visitas de antiguos alumnos me he enseñado lo largo de los años.

Special Feature! ESS Newspaper Club
Below is a clipping written by Azaria L. during ESS Newspaper
Panda Club. If your child is interested in writing sign them up
for the next panda club session! Well done Azaria!
Spring break and summer are on their way! If you were to travel
somewhere where would you go? After interviewing 14 people,
everyone had interesting answers. Some said Australia, Montana,
Switzerland, Alaska and Honduras. Since they are so far away,
people chose taking planes over cars. Victoria Wilson says, “It’s
good to see different places and try different things.” Ali Magidson
said she “likes trying new foods and spending time with family”
when she travels. With the warm weather coming, hopefully we
can lift off somewhere fun soon!

A continuación se muestra un recorte escrito por L. Azaria
en ESS Periódico Panda Club. Si su hijo está interesado en la
escritura firmar para arriba para la sesión del club al lado de la
panda ! Bien hecho Azaria!
Las vacaciones de primavera y el verano están en camino! Si se
va a viajar a algún sitio a dónde irías? Después de entrevistar a
14 personas, todo el mundo tenía respuestas interesantes. Algunos
dijeron Australia, Montana, Suiza, Alaska y Honduras. Ya
que son tan lejos, la gente eligió tomar aviones sobre los coches.
Victoria Wilson dice: “Es bueno ver diferentes lugares y probar
cosas diferentes. “ Ali Magidson dijo que” le gusta probar nuevos
alimentos y pasar tiempo con la familia” cuando viaja. Con el
buen tiempo que viene, espero que podamos levantar algún lugar
divertido pronto!
