CONTINUAMENTE ALABANDO A DIOS
CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD
In both the first reading and the Gospel we are told
about Christ’s glorious ascension into heaven. Paul’s letter
to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has been seated at
God’s right hand in heaven, above every choir of angels.
There might be a temptation to stay at an awed distance
from Jesus Christ. However, the tone of today’s readings is
far from that temptation. The tone is exultant and the message is urgent. We are to be his witnesses, and the Gospel
describes the first witnesses this way: “[W]ith great joy . . .
they were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke
24:53).
How can we continually praise God? The answer can
be found in the second reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us
a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation” in order to know Christ clearly
(Ephesians 1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be enlightened and empowered.
Tanto la primera lectura como el Evangelio nos
cuentan la gloriosa Ascensión de Cristo al cielo. La carta de
san Pablo a los efesios nos recuerda que Cristo está sentado a la derecha de Dios en el cielo, por encima de todos los
coros de ángeles. Puede que tengamos la tentación de
mantenernos a reverencial distancia de Jesucristo. Sin embargo, el tono de las lecturas de hoy dista mucho de esa

Let us Give Thanks
We should give thanks to God for our mothers
every day! For all their sacrifices and love. We
should give thanks especially this Sunday —
as we join our brothers and sisters of all faiths
in celebrating national Mother’s Day.
For Catholics, motherhood is a vocation, a
special calling from Jesus Christ. God entrusts
to every mother the duty of sharing in the mystery of his creation. In our Father’s design,
every new life is conceived and grows under a
mother’s loving heart. Every mother is a guardian appointed by our Father to look out for his
precious gift of life. Her smile is the first thing
the child sees upon entering the world. And her
smile is the child’s first sign of God’s love.
Along with fathers, mothers are entrusted
with nurturing their children’s physical
lives and helping them grow in the life of
grace and the Spirit. Mothers especially,
are our first teachers about prayer, charity
and the practices of our Christian faith.

Feliz Día de
Las Madres
Hoy celebramos a una mujer potente e importante en
nuestras vidas; la madre. La historia del Día de las Madres se originó en las fiestas griegas en honor de Rhea,
la madre de los dioses. A lo largo de la historia los cristianos también hemos recordado a la Madre de Dios, María,
en varias solemnidades, pero hace sólo 100 años que en
el 10 de mayo de 1907 en Estados Unidos se empezó a
promover la idea de un día de reconocimiento del amor
que tenemos como humanos por nuestras propias madres. Eventualmente se paso a muchas naciones latinoamericanas.
Muchas culturas latinoamericanas son matriarcales, es
decir, el papel de la madre en la familia es algo esencial.
Para los latinos, no hay amor más grande que el de una
madre. Sin olvidar la función del padre, ella es la que nos
da la vida, nos enseña como vivirla y nos da alimento. Su
amor nos recuerda al de Cristo, quien con sacrificio y
amor da vida a la Iglesia. Su amor sostiene y cuando las
cosas se ponen difíciles emocionalmente, nuestro deseo
secreto es de estar en los brazos de mamá.

will se from our joy that God is good. The Ascension reveals the work we
must do in order to be with Christ forever.
Prayer for Vocations
God and gracious God you have called us through our Baptism to
discipleship with your Son, Jesus Christ, and have sent us to bring
the Good News of Salvation to all people. We pray for you to grant us
more priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters and lay ministers to build up your Church here within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Inspire our young men and women by the example of Blessed
Junipero Serra to give themselves totally to the work of Christ and his
Church. We ask you this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Se nos llama a seguir a Cristo y a proclamar su mensaje viviendo en este mundo. Llevamos a cabo esa misión con nuestras obras
más que con nuestras palabras. Si el amor de Dios arde en nuestros
corazones, la gente verá en nuestra alegría que Dios es bueno. La Ascensión revela lo que debemos hacer para esta con Cristo para siempre.
Oración por las Vocaciones
Dios clemente y generoso, tu nos has llamado a través de nuestro
Bautismo al discipulado con tu Hijo, Jesucristo, y nos has enviado
para anunciar la Buena Nueva de salvación a todos los hombres. Te
rogamos que nos concedas más sacerdotes, diáconos, religiosos y
religiosas y ministros laicos para construir tu Iglesia aquí en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Inspira a nuestros jóvenes, hombres y mujeres, con el ejemplo del Beato Junípero Serra, a entregarse totalmente

demás, con la boca abierta mirando hacia el cielo?
Jesús tu amigo, te invita:
♦ Jesús envía a sus amigos a hacer su trabajo, es decir, a
servir y ayudar a los demás, comunicar que Dios los ama mucho,
compartir lo que se tiene, respetar a todos como imagen de Dios y
procurar que haya justicia. ¿Cómo puedes tú ayudar en el trabajo
de Jesús?
♦ No podemos quedarnos solamente mirando a cielo, Pero con
la mirada fija en le cielo, tenemos que trabajar por construir el
Reino de Dios en la tierra así como Jesús nos lo pidió en su Ascensión.

Jesus sends his friends to do his work; that is, to serve and help
others, to communicate that God loves the, to share what they
have, to respect everyone as the image of God, and to strive for
justice. How can you help in Jesus’ work?
We cannot remain just looking at heaven. But, with our eyes fixed
on heaven, we need to work to build this earth, as Christ asked of
us in his Ascension.
What am I going to do?
Speak with Jesus and tell him about a time when you saw something
quite amazing. Ask him for strength to do what he wants of you. Tell
Jesus what you would like to do this coming week:

The Sacraments
In the Eucharist, although we do no see him, Christ is
completely and truly present. When we receive communion, we are so close, that He is in us. This calls us to carry
out his work of doing good to all people.
