MISSIONARIES OF ST. CHARLES - Scalabrinians
The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians – is an International community of religious serving migrants and refugees of different cultures, religions and ethnicities in 32 countries and on five
continents.
The Congregation was founded on November 28, 1887, by Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905),
bishop of Piacenza (Italy). It was the period of massive emigration from Italy and Europe toward the Americas. It was a far-reaching phenomenon whose importance Bishop Scalabrini was able to grasp in both its social
and religious dimensions.
Our missionary focus has been to be migrants with the migrants and to be in mission with people on the
move along with a special priority for the poorest migrants. What has become very obvious is that as we have
taken more missionary risks and made an effort to clarify our Charism we have been blessed with more and
more vocations.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
From the Pastor’s Desk
Renew My Church! Inspired in the words of Christ to St. Francis of Assisi, this is a
project Archbishop Cupich has lounged in the Archdiocese of Chicago in order to
revitalize the Missionary activity in this local Church. For months, plans have been
presented to all the priests working in the Archdiocese and lately the idea is to make
known the project to all Catholics, in the hope that every baptized would get involved in one way or another. After hours and hours of dialogue and discussion, after several meetings for priests and staff working in our parishes, after much prayer
and discernment, all the parishes in the Archdiocese have been gathered in groupings in the hope that the project would better be analyzed and implemented.
Because of geographical reasons, Our Lady of Mount Carmel has been proposed to group with Sacred Heart, St. Charles B., St. Domitila, St. Eulalia and St.
Simeon. -This is a proposal though and final decision will be made at a later date-.
As Bishop Manz stated in his letter announcing our grouping, “The ultimate purpose
of the groupings is to better position ourselves to carry out the Archbishops vision
for Renew My Church: An archdiocese made up of Parishes that have the resources
and capacity to be vital and vibrant for a truly life-giving, disciple-making, and sustainable Catholic presence
for years to come. Each group will be charged with planning for the best way to achieve that vision in their local areas. In some areas, this may require new configurations such as multi-site parishes or multi parish pastoring”. In other words, we are now call to work together to better discern how we can best serve the Catholic
population of our area. Archbishop Cupich has invited all pastors to work closely with our parishioners in
providing the best input possible in order to benefit the Mission of the Church which is that of making the Gospel of Jesus Christ known to all peoples while bringing all peoples to friendship with God.
We must journey through this project with joyful and expectant hearts. Fear cannot be part of the discernment process for we know, the Lord is with us, directing our efforts and focusing our energies in the Service of God’s Kingdom. If we do so, no doubt the result will be the fulfillment of God’s will for our Faith
Community. Let us then journey with confidence and praying for the success of this new adventure… as it has
always happened, the Lord is our faithful companion on the journey.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

San John Vianney in Northlake. Padre
Altri
possono venire in bicicletta o con
I’automobile. Alle ore 10 entreremo assiame,

la “PORTA SANTA”, con I’acquisto dell’
Indulgenza plenaria. Quindi prenderemo

proprie famiglie.
Questo pellegrinaggio, secondo le intenzione
di Papa Francesco, ha un significato ben
precioso: siamo in cammino in questa vita,

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“PLUNGED” AND “CLEANSED”
Clear parallels exist between the characters in today’s scripture stories and our own lives as Christians.
Just as Naaman was “plunged into the Jordan” (2 Kings 5:14) we were plunged—the word “baptize” is derived
from a root word meaning “plunge”—into the waters of baptism. Just as Naaman became “like . . . a little
child” (2 Kings 5:14), in baptism we were born into new life as children of God. Just as the lepers in the
Gospel turned to Jesus for mercy and “were cleansed” and “healed” (Luke 17:14, 15), we, too, were washed
clean and healed of our sins in baptism. Finally, like both Naaman and the Samaritan leper, most of us have
never been members of the Jewish people. Yet we are among those of whom the Letter to Timothy speaks: In
baptism we were “chosen, so that [we] too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, together with
eternal glory” (2 Timothy 2:10).
GIVING THANKS
We who have received so much healing through Christ should devote our lives to giving God thanks
and praise. All of us were “foreigners” until we were baptized. None of us deserves God’s daily mercy and
care. And it is through our public expressions of thanks for God’s grace in our lives that others come to know
the saving power of Jesus Christ. Thus, public thanksgiving is central to the life of Christian discipleship.
The Eucharist is our primary means of giving public praise and thanks to God. Together we give thanks
for the gifts of creation and the covenant. We give thanks for the gift of salvation that is ours through Jesus
Christ and for the gifts of abundant life, unity, and healing that the Holy Spirit continually pours out on us.
During the Eucharist we also “sing joyfully to the Lord” (Psalm 98:4) in thanksgiving for the daily gifts of
God in each of our lives. In the words that we say before every Eucharistic Prayer, “It is right to give [God]
thanks and praise.”
