A Reflection: SEEK VIRTUE
n today’s first reading, Amos condemns a selfabsorbed people and their morally corrupt behavior
and attitudes, which he warns will bring devastation. In
the Gospel, the wealthy man is not given a name; he is
simply the epitome of greed and irresponsibility. His
lack of caring has created a gulf between him and the
beggar Lazarus that not even Abraham can bridge.
In his letter to Timothy, a young bishop in the small
Resurrection community of Ephesus, Paul exhorts this
leader to seek virtues such as integrity, faith, and steadfastness with great gentleness. Paul also asks Timothy to
keep in mind the future life with God who “dwells in
unapproachable light.” This is the blessedness of all
those who, like Lazarus, were once poor but who are
now rich.

Una Reflexión: PRACTICAR LA VIRTUD
n la primera lectura de hoy, Amós condena la corrupta moralidad en el comportamiento y la actitud
de un pueblo que no se preocupa sino por su bienestar y
les previene que les traerá devastación. En el Evangelio,
el hombre rico ni siquiera tiene un nombre, es simplemente la personificación de la avaricia y la irresponsabilidad. Su falta de caridad ha creado un abismo entre él y
el mendigo Lázaro que ni Abraham puede cerrar.
En su carta a Timoteo, un joven obispo en la pequeña comunidad formada después de la Resurrección en
Éfeso, Pablo exhorta a este dirigente a practicar virtudes
como integridad, fe y constancia con gran bondad. Pablo
también pide a Timoteo que conserve en su mente la
vida futura con Dios que “vive en la luz inaccesible”.
Esta es la bienaventuranza de todos aquellos que, como
Lázaro, fueron una vez pobres pero ahora son ricos.

9/17—The Post-Confirmation meet every Tues. with their Catechist, Brett Bloch, not only to plan the Tues. night activities but
they also visit each class to invite them to participate in Faith
Formation & parish activities such as retreats for the Primary &
Jr. High grades & the Oktoberfest. It’s one of the best ways to
encourage our youth to be active members of our parish!
9/17—Year I & First Com. candidates always raise good questions as they prepare for sacraments. (Below) Evelyn Maldonado & Angela Bloch taught their Year II Confirmandi about the
meaning of the symbols & furnishings in the church. It proved
to be a very interesting and informative tour for them!
