Thank you for completing the Parish Census and helping to make the Cathedral
an even more special place to know, love and serve Jesus.
One Minute Reflections
We want to know who our parishioners are and what you think. Help us prepare
to meet our parish needs over the next decade by completing the Parish Census.
Did I offer peace today?
Did I bring a smile to someone’s face?
Did I say words of healing?
Did I forgive?
Did I bring love?
These are the real questions.”
As a token of appreciation, there will be an intimate cocktail reception at the
rectory on a Saturday in early 2017 hosted by Monsignor Frank. Five names will
be drawn from the completed census forms. Each week’s winners will be
announced in the Bulletin, on the Cathedral website and Facebook page.

is complete so that we can best serve you.

"Prayer: The Faith Prayed"
What is an Active
Parishioner?
Our parishioners are often asking us
to verify that they are an “active
practicing Catholic.” The question of
parishioner status is important
because this question comes up in
many circumstances such as





This weekend, we commission those Adults and Teens who have been called to
serve the children, youth, and adults of this parish. Hundreds of volunteers serve
in both our English speaking and Hispanic Faith Formation programs during the
year. Catechesis is a distinct and special ministry in the Church. As the
Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear, “Catechesis is intimately bound
up with the whole of the Church’s life . . . her inner growth and
correspondence with God’s plan depend essentially on catechesis” (no. 7).
This ministry of teaching in the name of the Church has a profound dignity,
which is why catechists are formally commissioned by the Church. It is only
fitting that we set aside a day to highlight this ministry and invite the entire
church community to think about our responsibility to share our faith with
others.
Certification as godparents and
sponsors for Baptisms and
Confirmation
Active parishioner tuition rates in
Catholic schools
Marriage/Baptism preparation
Scheduling of the facilities for
services such as Baptisms,
Weddings and Funerals
Enrolling children in our
programs
In practice, Parishioner verification is
done by looking equally at three
criteria: Registration, Regular Mass
Attendance, and Financial and Time
Support.
If you have any questions regarding
the parishioner verification process,
please contact Trish Carr at
[email protected].
Msgr. Frank McNamee encourages
you to be an active member of our
parish. Your parish – and your own
faith life – is enriched and
strengthened by the participation of
our members!
Stewardship of Treasure
In his first letter to Timothy (from which our Second Reading is drawn) St. Paul uses
the term “first of all” when calling for prayers, especially prayers of thanksgiving. “First
of all” is not a rhetorical phrase intended to point out what Paul is going to speak about
initially. It is a communication that prayer is of primary importance. That is surely one
of Paul’s most common themes. The term “prayer” should mean more than just making
appeals to the Lord. It involves all communication with God, both to and from. Paul
cannot express enough how important that should be to Timothy, and to us.

One Minute Reflections
Keep the joy of loving Jesus in your
heart and share this joy with all you
meet and so become the Sunshine of
God’s love, the hope of Eternal
happiness and a burning flame of love
and compassion to each other, and
remember all works of love are works
of Peace. God bless you.

Children to grow in faith. All NEW volunteers working

complete an in-person course “Protecting God’s Children”
prior to volunteering. Our next Cathedral offerings will
take place in Kenny Hall on Thursday, September 22nd,

Upcoming Altar Server Training
Youth altar servers, boys and girls, assist the clergy in the liturgy
including weekend Masses, funerals and weddings. This is
a wonderful ministry, an act of service that requires our young people
to be present and focused, humbly assisting at the altar, and learning
and growing in the servant role. Altar Servers are not just showing up
and filling a volunteer slot, but are responding to a call from God and
offering assistance with the liturgy in gratitude for this special responsibility. By their service, altar servers can mature and grow in grace, and
are called to be leaders amongst their peers.
Children are eligible to train as servers at CTK if they are registered and
active members of the parish, have received First Communion, and
regularly attend mass. New servers attend 2 hour-long sessions of training in the
fall. They then serve as Novices through Easter, before becoming Skilled servers in
the spring if they are ready to advance. We have a large number of servers, so the
commitment is approximately once every 5 weeks--but there are
frequent opportunities to sub for others.
To submit an online application to join the Altar Server ministry, please visit our website at www.ctkaltarservers.org and click “Indicate Interest” to begin the
process. The deadline for application is Friday, September 23. You must apply in
advance to attend training. NO WALK INS FOR TRAINING PLEASE. NO
EXCEPTIONS.
For training, new servers must attend one session of Part I and one session of Part
II. This fall’s training dates are scheduled for:
Novice Training Part I
*Parents are required to stay for an information session during Part I*
The Cathedral Flower Guild is
seeking sponsors for the weekly altar
flowers. Both the sponsor’s name and
the name of the person being
honored will be printed in the
Sunday bulletin on the weekend the
flowers appear on the altar.
The cost of sponsorship is $150 for
the main altar; $100 for each side
altar; and $60 for the Parish Hall. The
Flower Guild will select the
arrangements and the colors will be
compatible with the Cathedral colors
and feast days. The Cathedral
arrangements will remain on the
altars for the following week.

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND CATHEDRAL
COMMUNITY
Dear Friends in Christ,
Welcome! On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy,
the staff, and the whole Cathedral community, I welcome you to
the Cathedral of Christ the King. I pray that as you step into the
Cathedral, you not only experience the beauty of the
surroundings but also the vibrant spirit of the community
gathered.
We are an active parish of close to 6,000 families and over one
hundred ministries. Our mission statement to “Know, Love and
Serve as Jesus Did” is fulfilled by the sharing our gifts of time,
talent and treasure. If you are new, it is my hope that you will
join us and become part of this wonderful community. If you are
just visiting, it is a blessing to have you here and thank you for
worshiping with us. We hope you will come again.
If you would like to learn more about our community, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org. If you
would like to register at the parish, you can visit our reception
desk for a registration form.
I pray that your visit to the Cathedral was enjoyable and that you
truly experienced the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
