We look forward to having you become a member of our faith community. Each individual member of our Parish is an important part of the Catholic family. The gifts of faith from the Lord are strengthened and deepened by our Communion in Jesus Christ. The celebration of the Eucharist is the heart of our parish life. VIRTUS TRAINING All who teach or volunteer at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross are required to attend the VIRTUS: Protecting God's Children training session. The session is prevention and awareness training at the parish level for adults - called "Protecting God's Children," and administered by the Catholic Risk Retention Group under an umbrella called VIRTUS - consists of classroom presentations, printed materials and videotapes that will focus on the prevention of abuse and the protection of children. After you attend the session, you will receive a certificate, which will be kept on file in the Parish Office. You only need to attend this training once; you do not need to attend each year. Contact Bob Travers in the Parish Office to sign up for one of these training sessions (617-542-5682 or [email protected]). May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen All Souls November Happenings November is traditionally associated in the Catholic Church with remembrance of the dead. Memories can remember the good, hope and love that a person shared that lives on in our hearts and lives. Liturgical remembrance, however, is not just about looking back to the past but also looking forward to the future in trust and hope. Just as our loved one shared in Christ’s death in baptism, we believe that he or she will share in Christ’s resurrection and enjoy eternal life in God’s presence. The tradition of recalling and interceding for the dead is a long-established practice in the Catholic Church. There is something poignant and personal about writing down the names of our deceased loved ones and asking the community to remember them in prayer. All Souls Envelopes Please write the names of those you want remember in prayer, return the envelope in the collection basket, the Gift Shop or the Cathedral Office. The envelopes will be place on the altar during the month of November The Book of Remembrance You are invited to write the names of those you want remember in prayer, relatives and friends who have died. The Book of Remembrance is given a place of honor, at our front altar, during the month of November as a reminder to the community to pray for those who have died. Religious Education Cathedral of the Holy Cross English Speaking Faith Formation The themes for this year will be: let the children come!, “the year of Mercy”, the gospels, the sacraments, the church and prayer. Parents are the role models for their children's faith and are the primary educators in their children's faith formation. We want to partner with you and help your children become living and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. This is done through religious education classes, using an approved published curriculum and sharing the Eucharist.
