MARIO BENCOMO
Europe. À l’âge de 14 ans, il a quitté
l’Espagne pour se rendre aux États-Unis,
arrivant à New York en 1968, seul
mythologie, l’extase mystique, l’histoire
sensuel. Dévoreur vorace de livres, son
œuvre est très inspirée par la poésie.
L’oeuvre de Bencomo se retrouve, entre
autre,
dans
la
collection
du
Metropolitan Museum of Art de New
York; au Musée Arte Contemporaneo
de Panama; au Museo Nacional de
Bellas Artes, La Habana, à Cuba; au Art
Museum of the Americas à Washington,
D.C.; au Lowe Art Museum, de
l’Université de Miami; au Frederick R.
Weisman Art Museum, au Minneapolis
Museum of Art.
Mario Bencomo is a Cuban born artist.
He was sent alone to live in Europe
during the revolution in his homeland.
At the age of 14, he left Spain for the
U.S., arriving by himself in New York City
in 1968. He never broke away from his
original cultural links to Cuba nor to
Spain, often returning to Europe for
extended stays, adding his American
education
to
his
multicultural
experience and work. In 1996, almost
three decades alter his departure,
Bencomo returned to Cuba for the first
time and continues to visit Cuba
periodically since then.
He is based in
Miami.
Bencomo’s work relates to various
themes; the sensual ambiguity of form
found in nature, mythology, mystical
ecstasy,
history
and
personal
experience; often blurring the line
between the spiritual and the sensual. A
voracious reader, his work is very much
inspired by poetry.
Bencomo's work is in the collection of

York, Detroit Institute of Art, Denver Art
