Math Science Writing Social Studies Events and Reminders Parent
Graham Mesa Elementary 2nd Grade News November 3rd, 2016 Math Writing In math this week the mathematicians started to investigate fractions. They learned that “one half”, or “1/2”, is a type of fraction. They were able to use a line to divide a shape into two equal parts and could recognize that halves of the same shape can look different. Keep up the great work 2nd grade! This week, students practiced writing friendly letters, as well as take their assessment for the Opinion Unit. Students were able to give their opinion on their favorite holiday. Next week, we cycle back into our informative unit (research). Science Social Studies This week in science, students began to explore weather and temperature. We made model thermometers that we will be using for a couple of weeks; we explored wind direction with bubbles, and wind speed with an anemometer. Help your child out by talking about the weather whenever possible! This week we have been working on the election process. We talked about the variety of ways you can vote, both public and private. We have been using salty and sweet treats to learn about the primary process; learning facts about the treats. We then voted and narrowed it down to only one treat for both sweet and salty, next week we will be our general election! Kids will vote the same day as their parents! Have your students turn in their signed homework sheet the next day at school. This is a great time to practice writing neatly and using the book as a resource to check spelling (such as names) when we can. Se enteraron de que “la mitad”, o “1/2”, es un tipo de fraccion. Ellos fueron capaces de utilizar una linea para dividir una forma en dos partes iguales y podria reconocer que las mitades de la misma forma puede tener un aspecto diferente. Mantener el gran trabajo de Segundo grado! Esta semana, los estudiantes practican escribir cartas amistosas, asi como toman su evaluacion de la Unidad de Opinion. Los estudantes fueron capaces de dar su opinion sobre su dia de fiesta preferido. La proxima semana, el ciclo de nuevo en nuestra unidad informativa (investigacion). Ciencia Estudios Sociales Esta semana en la cienceia, los estudiantes comenzaron a explorar el clima y la temperatura. Hicimos termometros modelo que vamos a utilizar durante un par de semanas; exploramos la direccion del viento con las burbujas, y la velocidad del viento con un anemometro. Ayudar a su hijo por hablar del tiempo siempre que sea posible! Hemos estado trabajando en la proceso electoral. Hablamos de la variedad de formas en las que puede votar. Hemos estado utilizando golosinas dulces y saladas para aprender sobre el proceso primario; hechos acerca de las golosinas aprendizaje. A continuacion, hemos votado y reducido a solo un placer para tanto dulces como salados, la proxima semana vamos a ser nuestra eleccion general!
