The Illimani, meaning "Golden Eagle" in Aymara, is Bolivia's mystique mountain and the landmark of La Paz. The trek is popular
because of its proximity with La Paz and its exceptional views. We hike through stunning mountain scenery with beautiful lagunas
and a rich animal life.

1. La Paz – Pinaya (3900m/12.795ft) - Puente Roto (4550m/14.927ft)
We leave the hotel in a private vehicle at 07:45 to go to Pinaya (3h30), a small village at the foot of the Illimani at 3900m/12.795ft of altitude. Here we
meet with our team of mule-drivers and their animals before we begin our trek to the village Puente Roto “Broken Bridge”, the most popular base camp
on the west face of the Illimani.

2. Puente Roto – Mina Aguila (4400m/14.435ft)
We continue our trek following an old trail on the western face of the Illimani. The Illimani is the 2nd highest mountain in Bolivia and the name means
“Golden Eagle” in Aymara. Being the highest mountain in the Cordillera Real and its close proximity to La Paz makes this one of the most popular
mountains for mountain climbing. We reach Mina Aguilla after a 6 hour hike where we set up our camp.


Trek: 6h.
Elevation: +450m/-600m, +1.476ft/-1.968ft.

3. Mina Aguila – Tutural Pampa (4000m/13.123ft)
Still on the flanks of the Illimani we ascend to a mountain pass situated at approx. 4800m/15.748ft of altitude. From here we walk down into a valley at
the feet of Mururata to the Tutural Pampa ranch.

4. Totoral Pampa – Trek Mururata – La Paz
From Totoral Pampa we start an exceptional trek that only few people know. We hike from laguna to laguna until we arrive at the foot of the Mururata
glacier (5870m/19.259ft). We then return to Tutural Pampa where our car is watiting to bring us back to La Paz where we arrive late-afternoon. End of
