2015-2016 Student-Parent-Teacher Title I Compact
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Calhoun Middle School students (participating in the Title I, Part A program) and their families, agree that
this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility
for improved student academic achievement. This compact describes how we will build and develop a
partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards.
It is important to understand our district and school goals in order to understand how working
together can benefit students.
Mission - Our mission is to inspire all students to become life-long learners in the pursuit of excellence.
Vision - Our 20/20 vision is to have all students exceeding expectations by the year 2020.
Strategic Goals - The following are the Board approved Strategic Goals for the district. (A full version of the
district’s Strategic Plan is located on the district website – www.calhounschools.org.)
Provide a quality educational experience that enhances student achievement.
Employ highly qualified teachers, leaders and staffs in all positions. Provide professional learning
opportunities to continuously improve instructional program.
Develop Organizational Effectiveness: Improved organizational effectiveness = improved student
learning. Establish support structures that enhance student’s physical and emotional well-being and
help them achieve.
Ensure Stakeholder Support and Satisfaction and Remain focused on System / School Improvement
Initiatives
We all have a role to play in helping your child meet these goals. Responsibilities are listed below.
Calhoun Middle School Responsibilities:
CMS will:
1. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment.
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences twice a year during which this compact will be discussed as it relates
to the individual child’s achievement.
3. Provide parents with many means of checking their children’s progress. We offer Remind 101, Parent
Portal, CMS webpage, Shout Point, Messenger, as well as printed progress reports/report cards sent
home every nine weeks.
4. Make ourselves available to parents.
5. Welcome and encourage parents to volunteer and participate at CMS.

Parent Responsibilities:
Parents will:
1. Ensure that children are studying, completing homework, and reading at home.
2. Support the teachers and school by allowing students to learn from mistakes (example, serving study
hall when an assignment is missed, taking a low grade for late work).
3. Use Remind 101 and Parent Portal to remain informed of child’s progress.
4. Ensure that children arrive to school on time and well rested.
