Fiesta de Cristo Rey
Dear St. John Vianney Community,
Estimada Comunidad de San Juan Vianney,
Week by week the Liturgy has been preparing us for the
revelation made on the beautiful Feast of Christ the
King. This revelation is the basis of our faith. Jesus, the
chosen one, the Messiah of God, the King of the Jews is
our salvation. Salvation is a gift of grace, a reward of
faith. It is repentance and forgiveness of sin. Salvation
is Christ our King.
Semana por semana, la Liturgia ha estado
preparándonos para la revelación de la hermosa Fiesta
de Cristo Rey. Esta revelación es la base de nuestra fe.
Jesús, el elegido, el Mesías de Dios, el Rey de los Judíos
es nuestra salvación. La salvación es un regalo de la
gracia, una recompensa de fe. Es arrepentimiento y
perdón de los pecados. La salvación es Cristo nuestro
Rey.
The readings as we approached the end of this “Year of
Mercy” readied us for the truth that salvation is our
reward of faith. As we journeyed through the Gospel
we encountered the lessons of recognizing Jesus as our
Savior through a persistent widow, a self-righteous
Pharisee, a man of short stature, a humble tax collector,
and a thief, all delivering us the message that Jesus is
indeed a “lover of souls.”
The Gospel encounter of Zacchaeus brought us a
portrait of a lost soul, a man who gained his living by
fraud, yet it was faith that caused him to be determined
to see Jesus. He brought salvation to his house and was
changed. A Pharisee, instead of praising God for His
mighty works, congratulates himself for his own deeds,
which he presents to God in detail. Jesus uses a tax
collector in the back of the temple to show us the faith
and humility we need to obtain salvation. We are
called to seek Jesus daily with repentant hearts.
We are shown by a widow how to keep the faith, to
pray always, and not be wearied by our trials; we must
persist to have “believing” prayer that brings us peace.
Mientras nos acercamos al final de este "Año de la
Misericordia" las lecturas nos han preparado para la
verdad, que la salvación es nuestra recompensa de fe.
Al viajar a través del Evangelio nos encontramos con
enseñanzas para reconocer a Jesús como nuestro
Salvador a través de una viuda persistente, un Fariseo
satisfecho de sí mismo, un hombre de baja estatura, un
humilde recaudador de impuestos y un ladrón, todos
nos entregan el mensaje que Jesús de hecho es
"amante de las almas".
El Evangelio de Zaqueo nos trajo un retrato de un alma
perdida, un hombre que se ganó la vida a través del
fraude, pero la fe hizo que fuese determinado a ver a
Jesús. Él trajo la salvación a su casa y cambió. Un
Fariseo, en lugar de alabar a Dios por sus obras
poderosas, se felicita a sí mismo por sus propias obras,
que él presenta a Dios en detalle. Jesús usa un
recaudador de impuestos en la parte posterior del
templo para mostrarnos la fe y la humildad que
necesitamos para obtener la salvación. Estamos
llamados a buscar a Jesús todos los días con corazones
arrepentidos.
Se nos muestra, a través de una viuda, cómo mantener
la fe, orar siempre y no desanimarnos a causa de
nuestras pruebas; hay que persistir para “creer” que la
oración nos brinda paz.

It is the thief that delivers the strongest message of
salvation. He ask for remembrance. He makes a
statement of faith. He reveals to us that so long as our
hearts beat, the invitation of Christ stands. It is never
too late to turn to Christ; it is never too late for mercy.
While there is life, there is hope.
Thanksgiving is a time of remembrance and expressions
of gratitude. As we open the doors of our homes and
hearts may it be proclaimed that “today, salvation has
come to this house!”
This Thanksgiving allow me to express my gratitude to
you for the many visitations from God that I have
encountered through you during this year. May we
always be ready for the call of “today” and like the thief,
accept the salvation Jesus offers us.
Let us be a people that remember, celebrate and
believe.

El ladrón es el que entrega el mensaje más fuerte de
salvación. Él pide ser recordado. Él hace una
declaración de fe. Él nos revela que mientras nuestros
corazones latan, la invitación de Cristo está firme.
Nunca es demasiado tarde para volverse a Cristo;
nunca es demasiado tarde para la misericordia.
Mientras hay vida, hay esperanza.
Acción de Gracias es un tiempo de recuerdos y de
expresiones de gratitud. ¡Al abrir las puertas de
nuestras casas y nuestros corazones proclamemos que
"¡hoy, la salvación ha llegado a esta casa!"
En este Día de Acción de Gracias permítanme expresar
mi gratitud por las muchas visitas de Dios que he
encontrado a través de ustedes durante este año. Que
estemos siempre listos para la llamada de "hoy" y como
el ladrón, aceptar la salvación que Jesús nos ofrece.
Seamos personas que recuerdan, que celebraran y que
creen.
