Disaster PREPAREDNESS FOR YOUR HOME
Recent earthquakes and tsunamis around the world
may have prompted you and your family to start
thinking about what to do to be prepared. Protect
your family and yourself by having an emergency
preparedness kit that will hold you over for at least
three days.
Take precautions to secure large furniture and items
that may slide off of shelves in an earthquake. Over
50% of the injuries that occurred in the 1994 Northridge earthquake resulted from falling items.
Visit www.shakeout.org for information on protecting your home and family before, during and after
an earthquake. Download lists from www.readyoc.
org of what to pack in a preparedness kit and what
should be in a “Go Bag” if you have to evacuate your
home suddenly. For more information, or to learn about training classes available, please visit our website
at anaheim.net/prepare.

Anaheim’s Suggested Irrigation Schedule
While California’s drought may be over, using water efficiently needs to be
a permanent way of life for our residents and businesses.
Below are some quick tips to minimize water waste outside:
• Limit outdoor watering between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
• Water no more than every other day to maximize your water use
• Consider spreading mulch to minimize evaporation
• Install weather-based irrigation controllers for your landscaping
• Follow the chart below if you do not have an irrigation controller

We work For YOu
Each year, thousands of new bills are introduced as part of the federal and
state legislative process, and many of these bills have the potential to impact
Anaheim Public Utilities operations and our rates.
We want you to know that Anaheim Public Utilities is in your corner, working
for you. In the face of rapidly-shifting legislation, Anaheim Public Utilities
takes a proactive approach towards ensuring that legislators are aware of
the financial impact that their bills may have on our ratepayers.
Our customers are both are shareholders and our ratepayers, so our primary
focus is to provide services that maximize customer benefits and minimize
rate impacts.
Drowning Prevention
With the warmer weather approaching, many residents are probably getting ready
to take a dip in the pool. Now is the time to increase our efforts and awareness in
the prevention of childhood drownings. It is important to remember that drowning
is the leading cause of unintentional death for children under the age of five and
usually occurs quickly and silently, often in a matter of seconds, without warning.
The majority of drowning incidents occur in residential swimming pools and open
water sites, but children can drown in as little as one inch of water and are at risk
of drowning in wading pools, bathtubs, buckets, diaper pails, toilets, spas, and hot
tubs. Remember, drowning is 100% preventable. Below are some pool safety tips:
The ABC’s of Pool Safety
A = Adult Supervision • Assign an adult to supervise children in and around the swimming pool and spa. This is
needed whether there is one parent or guardian present or numerous adults present such
as during a family event or party.
• Floaties or other inflatable flotation devices are not life jackets and should never be
substituted for adult supervision.
B = Barriers
• Have a fence enclosure that isolates your swimming pool and spa from the home, play
areas, front and side yards and the neighbor’s yard.
• Make sure all gates in the isolation fence are self-closing and self-latching.
C = Classes
• Learn how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Enroll your child in swimming lessons.
