MICHALIS
T~RZ~S is one of the most important contemporary
Greek composers. He studied plano and music theory at the Macedonian Music University of
Thessalonika.
In 1973 ~e started his musical career by playing piano at the "Boites" (small music
theatres) In Plak.a below th.e Acropolis in the historical part of Athens. There he presented songs. written
by Mikis Theodorakis " Manos Hatzidakis

as well as his first own songs.
In 1976 he recorded his first music piece, "Hymn for Cyprus" using the lyrics of the
great Greek poet Yannis Rites.
Mikis Theodorakis presented the new composer Michalis Terzis and his work at a
big concert at "Panathinaiko
Stadium" in Athens.
In 1980 Michalis Terzis recorded "Maniatica", which contains traditional dirges and
epic songs of Mani (A. Protopsalti and N. Mitsovoleas).
In 1981 his work "Ancient Lyrics" was recorded. One of the songs,"
yktodia" was
performed at the festival in Corfu and directed by M. Hatzidakis.
In 1983 Michalis Terzis recorded a production with lyrics by the great Greek poet
Kostis Palamas. These songs were first presented at the theatre of Lykavitos in Athens
by the famous Greek singers George Dalaras, D. Galani, E. Arvanitaki, D. Theodosis.
In 1986 he created "Nostirnon
Irnar" - 12 Greek Folk Dances. This album was a
great success, and its performance at the ancient theatre Irodou Attikou below the
Acropolis was broadcast on Television.
In 1988 Michalis Terzis wrote the music for the film "Limnos the Cherished" by A.
Papadopoulos,
which won two awards: The prize of the Film Festival of
Thessalonika
in 1988 and an award by the Greek Ministry of Culture (Melina
Merkouri). The same year he wrote the music for the documentary
"Orfeas and
Evridiki" (A. Papadopoulos).
This also won an award in Asty, Italy.
In 1989 he composed "Altana of Pargas", a successful television production
(K.
Asimakopoulos).
Also in 1989, Michalis Terzis wrote the music for Dirnitris
Spypoy's film "The Flea". The film got five international awards. He also composed
the music for the television film "Thrace, Land of Orfeas and Dimocritos" (1991).
In 1992, he composed the music for the TV films "Evros, the River of Gods and
Thryles", and "Soyliotises" (G. Moulios). At the same time he wrote music for some
well-known Greek singers: "Violin Player"
(M. Dimitriadi); "Sunday Girls" (N.
Venetsanou); S. Kokotas, "Boat Full of Dreams", (K. Homata, P. Asteriadi, T.
Konstandakopoulos,
M. Violaris).
One of the most important moments of his career was the presentation of his symphonic work "The Hymn of Athens", with lyrics by K. Palamas who also wrote the
"Olympic Hymn" in February 94. The symphony was performed by the Symphony
Orchestra and Choir of the Greek Television, with Mikis Theodorakis as its director.
Michalis Terzis has presented his works in Greece and abroad. He has given many
very successful concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, USA, Egypt,
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tokyo and Australia.
For Michalis Terzis music is the most direct and creative way to communicate to
peoples of different cultures and languages.

1983 vertonte Michalis Terzis Texte des griechischen Dichters Kostis Palamas. Diese
Lieder wurden erstmals im Theater von Lykavitos in Athen von den beruhrnten
griechischen Sangern G. Dalaras, D. Galani, E. Arvanitaki und D. Theodosis interpretiert.
1986 produzierte
er "Nostimon
Imar" - 12 griechische Volkstanze. Dieses Album
wurde mit groBem Erfolg im historischen Theater Irodou Attikou unterhalb der
Akropolis aufgefiihrt und im Fernsehen ubertragen,
1988 schrieb Michalis Terzis die Musik fur den Film "Limnos the Cherished" (von
A. Papadopoulos),
der zwei Auszeichnungen
bekam, eine beim Filrnfestival in
Saloniki im Jahre 1988 und die andere von der Ministerin fur Kultur Melina

Einer der wichtigsten
Momente seiner Karriere war die Erstautfuhrung
seiner

Este tarnbien gano un premio en Asty, Italia.
En 1989 compuso "Altana de Pargas", un exitoso trabajo para la television (K.
Asimakopoulos).
Tarnbien en 1989, Michalis Terzis compuso la rmisica para la pelfcula de Dimitris Spypoy "La Mosca". Esta recibio cinco premios internacionales.
T~mbien compuso rmisica para la pelicula de television "Thrace, Tierra de Orfeas y
Dimocriros" (1991).
En 1992, compuso la rmisica para las peliculas de TV "Evros, el Rfo de los Dioses y
Thryles", y "Soyliotises" (G. Moulios). Al mismo tiempo compuso rmisica para cantantes griegos famosos: "Violinista " (M. Dimitriadi); "Chicas de Domingo" (N.
Venetsanou); S. Kokotas, "Barco Ileno de Suefios" (K. Homata, P. Asteriadi, T.
Konstandakopoulos,
M. Violaris).
Uno de los momentos mas importantes de su carrera fue la presentacion de su trabajo sinfonico: "EI Himno de Arenas", con letra de K. Palamas quien tambien escribio
"!iimno Olimpico" en febrero de 1994. La sinfonfa fue interpretada por la Orquesta
Slllfonica y el Coro de la television Griega con Mikis Theodorakis como director.
Michalis Terzis ha presentado su trabajo en Grecia y en el extranjero. Ha dado
muchos conciertos muy exitosos en Alemania, Austria, Suiza, Italia, Espana, USA,
Egipto, Kuwait, Arabia Saudita, Singapur, Tokio y Australia.
Para Michalis Terzis la rmisica es la forma mas directa y creativa de comunicarse
la gente de diferentes culturas e idiomas.
