Un momento espectacular
An exciting period
ESTIMADOS AMIGOS
DEAR FRIENDS
En estos últimos meses se han dado varios eventos
importantes para las relaciones entre Canadá y
Perú y nos sentimos orgullosos de que nuestra
Cámara haya sido parte de éstos.
En julio celebramos el Día Nacional de
Canadá con una recepción en la residencia de la
Embajadora. Este evento adquirió incluso mayor
relevancia que en los años anteriores por la
presencia del señor Presidente de la República,
Ollanta Humala. Sus palabras en esa ocasión no
hicieron más que resaltar, nuevamente, el gran
momento por el que vienen pasando las relaciones
entre el Perú y Canadá.
Posteriormente, en agosto, tuvimos la visita del
Ministro de Comercio Exterior de Canadá, Ed Fast.
En dicha ocasión, organizamos conjuntamente con
el MINCETUR un almuerzo en el que participaron
los ministros Fast y Silva. Participamos además en
el Comité Organizador del II Congreso Internacional
de Relaciones Comunitarias, en el que participó
una importante delegación de especialistas
canadienses en temas sociales.
Finalmente, en setiembre, estuvimos
presentes en Expomina Perú 2014. Este evento
atrajo la presencia de varios proveedores y
empresas mineras canadienses. Algunos de
los Directivos de la Cámara participamos del
Comité Central de este evento que confirmó
la trascendencia de la actividad minera para
el desarrollo del Perú y para el fomento de las
relaciones comerciales entre Perú y Canadá.
Mi agradecimiento a todos los miembros de
la Cámara que participaron y apoyaron nuestra
presencia en estos eventos.
Several important events for the relations
between Canada and Peru have taken place
in the last few months and we are proud
of the role our Chamber of Commerce has
played in them.
In July we celebrated Canada Day with
a reception at the Ambassador’s residence.
This year the presence of the President of
Peru, Ollanta Humala, made this event even
more important than the previous years.
He remarked, once again, how great this
period is for the relations between Peru and
Canada.
In August, the Canadian Minister for
International Trade, Honorable Ed Fast,
paid a visit to Peru. We organized with
MINCETUR a lunch session with ministers
Fast and Silva. We also participated in the
Organizing Committee of the II International
Congress of Community Relationship, where
a significant delegation of Canadian experts
on social issues actively participated.
Finally, in September we attended
Expomina Peru 2014, event that attracted
several Canadian mining companies and
suppliers. Some of the Chamber’s executives
took part in the Central Committee of
Expomina that reaffirmed the crucial
importance of the mining industry in the
development of Peru and in the commercial
relations between Peru and Canada.

our presence in these events.

El ministro de Comercio Internacional llegó al Perú para promover el
comercio y la inversión bilateral con el Perú y allanar el terreno para la
llegada de nuevas inversiones canadienses a nuestro país.
The minister of International Trade arrived in Peru to promote trade and
bilateral investment as well as to smooth the way for the arrival of new
Canadian investments in Peru.
U
N importante paso en el afianzamiento de las relaciones
bilaterales entre Canadá y el Perú se dio hace algunas semanas
con la llegada de Ed Fast, ministro de Comercio Internacional de
Canadá. La visita oficial tuvo como objetivo principal promover
el comercio y la inversión en la industria extractiva y los sectores
de defensa y seguridad. La misión encabezada por el ministro
Fast, quien llegó a nuestro país junto a 19 representantes de
organizaciones de los sectores involucrados y tuvo un especial
enfoque en las pequeñas y medianas empresas.
La visita del ministro Fast coincidió con la celebración de los 5
años de la entrada en vigencia del TLC Perú-Canadá. En ese sentido,
el funcionario expresó que la prioridad de Canadá es ofrecer a los
trabajadores y a las empresas canadienses apoyo sobre el terreno
y apertura de nuevos mercados mediante misiones comerciales.
“El Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) con Perú ofrece nuevas
oportunidades y forma parte del compromiso de nuestro gobierno
para proporcionar a las empresas canadienses las herramientas
que necesitan para triunfar en los diferentes mercados en todo el
mundo”, añadió.

EW weeks ago with the visit of Ed Fast, Canada`s
minister of International Trade, an important step in the
consolidation of bilateral relations with Peru was given.
The official visit aimed mainly at promoting trade and
investment in the extractive industry and in the defense
and security sectors. The mission, lead by minister Fast,
who arrived in our country along with 19 representatives
of organizations in the abovementioned sectors, focused
particularly in small and medium size enterprises.
The minister’s visit coincided with the fifth anniversary
of the Canada-Peru FTA’s coming into effect. In this
respect the Honorable Ed Fast declared that Canada’s
priority is to offer on field support to Canadian workers
and companies, and to open new markets by means of
trade missions.
“The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Peru provides new
opportunities and is part of our Government’s commitment
to deliver the tools that Canadian companies need to be
successful in the different world markets”, he added.

OAQUÍN Leguía es de aquellas personas que transmite
paz y armonía con el mundo en cada palabra. Para él,
la naturaleza y su protección es una de las principales
motivaciones que deberían tener todos los habitantes de
nuestro planeta.
Su amor por el planeta y el medio ambiente apareció cuando
aún era un niño en el jardín de su casa y a lo largo de su vida
se fue reforzando gracias a la experiencia. Hace casi 20 años,
Joaquín Leguía fundó la Asociación para la Niñez y su Ambiente
(ANIA) y creó el personaje Ania y la metodología TiNi (Tierra
de Niñas, Niños & Jóvenes) que hoy se replica en 12 regiones
del Perú y 10 países y ha sido reconocida por la UNESCO como
buena práctica de educación para el desarrollo sostenible.

OAQUÍN Leguía is one of those persons who transmit
peace and harmony with the world in every word they say. Nature
and its protection are for him two of the main motivations every
person in our planet should share.
His love towards the planet and the environment began when
he was still a child in the garden of his house, and it has continued
to strengthen itself throughout his life experience. Almost 20 years
ago, Joaquín Leguía founded the Asociación para la Niñez y su
Ambiente (ANIA – Association for Childhood and their Environment),
and he created Ania’s character and the TiNi methodology (Tierra de
Niñas, Niños & Jóvenes – Land of Girls, Boys and youngsters) which
is now replicated in 12 regions of Peru and other 10 countries, and has
been recognized by the UNESCO as a good practice for education on

– Mi apego a la naturaleza nace

choose our field
of specialisation.
It is then when I met my counselor
whose name is William Burch, a social
ecologist who became my mentor. He
encouraged me to follow my dreams
and I chose to specialize in something
directly related to my childhood, and I
specialized on the Role of Childhood in
Sustainable Development.
– ¿Quién es Ania y cuál es su
objetivo?
– ANIA es la Asociación para la
Niñez y su Ambiente cuyo objetivo es
formar y valorar a niños y jóvenes como
ciudadanos afectivos, emprendedores,
y comprometidos con el ambiente. Pero
Ania también es un personaje que creé,
basado en una niña indígena que conocí
en la selva. Ania representa la vida en su
totalidad y es en quien me inspiro para
hacer lo que hago.
– ¿How did your passion for nature
and its protection begin?
– My love for nature started when
I was only a child, in the garden of my
home, which became a refuge and my
world when my parents got divorced. For
me and my older brother, Augusto, who
has special abilities, this place became the
scenery of all of our childhood adventures,
and the refuge of our imagination, where
we forgot our problems and became the
main characters of our own stories. I grew
in this environment, and from that age
onwards I knew my life had to be tied to
this world.
– What is Ania and what is its aim?
– ANIA is the Association for
Childhood and its Environment whose
objective is to form and value children
and young people as affective citizens,
entrepreneurial and committed to the
environment. But Ania is also a character
I created based on an indigenous girl I met
in the rainforest. Ania represents life in
its completeness and she is who inspired
me to do what I do.

– ¿Qué es Tierra de Niños o TiNi?
– La Metodología TiNi enseña y
empodera a los niños a ser agentes de
cambio mejorando el ambiente. La TiNis
es un espacio, equivalente cómo mínimo
a tres macetas o un metro cuadrado,
que es administrado por los niños y en el
cual deben obtener tres resultados: que
allí se realicen acciones positivas para
la naturaleza, para los demás y para
ellos mismos. En este espacio los niños
pueden crear una visión de un mundo
mejor. TiNi se replica en 12 regiones del
Perú y 10 países y ha sido reconocida
por la UNESCO como buena práctica de
educación para el desarrollo sostenible.
– ¿Cuál es tu relación con
Canadá?
– Como parte de este trabajo en
el cual tengo muchos años ya, unos
monjes tibetanos me invitaron a una
conferencia en Italia y ahí conozco a
una de las personas que ayudó a crear
el World Spirit Forum, un movimiento
paralelo al World Economic Forum, y me
invita a dar una conferencia en el Youth
Spiritual Council. Allí conozco a dos
personas muy importantes en mi vida:
a Jane Goodall, la famosa primatóloga;
y a Diane Longboat, una lideresa
espiritual de Six Nations de Canadá. Con
Diane desarrollo un vínculo especial y le
cuento del proyecto Tierra de Niños y me
pide que repliquemos esa experiencia en
su pueblo, Caledonia, cerca de Toronto.
A partir de ese día, todos los años viajo
a Canadá y me reúno con ellos. Ellos
me han hecho parte de su familia y me
transmiten enseñanzas para ser una
mejor persona, un mejor hombre. Por
esta razón Canadá es hoy un lugar muy
espacial para mí.

– What is the Land of Children or
TiNi?
– The TiNi Methodology teaches
and empowers children to be agents
of change, improving the environment.
TiNi is a space, equivalent to at least
three or four flowerpots, or one square
meter, which is managed by the children
and in which they must obtain three
results: that positive actions for nature,
for others and for themselves take place
there. In this space children can create
a vision of a better world. TiNi has been
replicated in 12 regions in Peru and 10
other countries and has been recognized
by UNESCO as a good practice for
education on sustainable development.
– What’s your relation to Canada?
– As part of this work which I
have been doing for several years,
some Tibetan monks invited me to a
conference in Italy, where I met one of
the people who helped me create the
World Spirit Forum, a parallel movement
to the World Economic Forum, and who
invited me to give a conference at the
Youth Spiritual Council. There, I met
two people who became very important
in my life: Jane Goodall, the famous
primatologist; and Diane Longboat,
a spiritual leader from Six Nations,
Canada. I developed a special tie with
Diane and I told her about the Tierra
de Niños project, and she asked me to
replicate that experience in her town,
Caledonia, close to Toronto. From that
day on, I travel to Canada every year to
meet with them. They have made me
part of their family, and they teach me
how to become a better person, a better
man. That’s why Canada is a very special

de jugarse el primer partido
oficial de fútbol femenino, la
activista de los derechos de
la mujer Nettie Honeyball fundaba
el primer club deportivo de fútbol
de mujeres con el simple nombre de
“British Ladies Football Club”. Lo que
buscaba Honeyball, más que ver a
su equipo ganar partidos y llevarse
campeonatos, era demostrar que
las mujeres podían ocupar un lugar

N 1894, two years after the
first official women’s football
match was played, women’s
rights activist, Nettie Honeyball
founded the first women’s football
sports club, whose simple name
was “British Ladies Football Club”.
Honeyball’s aim beyond seeing her
team win matches and competitions,
was to show that women could play
an important role within the male
chauvinist culture. A strong tie was
born with the BLFC which shall be

canadienses, entre otros.

HE residence of Her Excellency Patricia Fortier, Canadian Ambassador
to Peru, played host to Canada Day celebrations. President of the Republic
Ollanta Humala attended, joined by his wife, First Lady Nadine Heredia and 350
other guests. President Humala congratulated Canada on the country’s 147th
anniversary and confirmed that Peru will continue to work on strengthening
commercial, economic, social and cultural ties between the two countries.
The simulation of the traditional Sugar Shack was a special touch at the event,
helping to ensure that all present celebrated this memorable day in true Canadian
style. The representation of an inukshuk ice stack drew the attention of those in
attendance during the festivities, as did the maple syrup and the Canadian wine
amongst other things.

El 28 de agosto del 2014 se llevó a cabo el
Almuerzo – Conferencia “Obras por Impuestos – Un
compromiso de Inversión”. Este evento tuvo como
objetivo comunicar lo logrado en este programa
público-privado así como los beneficios para
empresas privadas de entrar en esta modalidad de
responsabilidad social que favorece a ambas partes.
Por otro lado, se mostraron cifras interesantes de lo
logrado así como las razones por las cuales debería
haber mayor inversión e involucramiento por parte
de las empresas privadas.
A conference lunch on “Works for tax – a commitment
to investment” took place on August 28th 2014. The
aim of this event was to make the achievements of
this public-private programme known, along with
the benefits to private companies of adopting a
position of social responsibility that favours both
parties. On top of that, interesting statistics detailing
achievement were shown, along with the reasons why
there should be greater investment and involvement
