Desde las primeras edificaciones en la historia de la humanidad, la iluminación natural ha sido
uno de los retos que con más importancia y tenacidad ha intentado conquistar el ser humano. Ha
sido una constante búsqueda de soluciones para conseguir el balance óptimo entre la protección
contra la intemperie y el paso de la luz natural. El resultado se puede apreciar en todos los estilos
arquitectónicos de relevancia y en la mayoría de los edificios históricos más bellos del mundo, como
son las catedrales, bibliotecas y museos entre otros edificios de gran relevancia social, política y
espiritual, que han usado la luz como tema principal en su construcción.
Este proceso milenario de buscar formas de introducir luz a los interiores nos ha dejado un
invaluable legado de edificios históricos de los que podemos aprender lecciones muy importantes
de composición combinada con efectos lumínicos. Actualmente, existen un gran número de
arquitectos en todo el mundo que gracias a este legado, a los avances tecnológicos en los materiales
de construcción y a las más avanzadas herramientas de diseño, han conseguido crear verdaderas
joyas arquitectónicas.

Este es el último proyecto de Carbondale, una agencia de diseño
fundada por Eric Carlson. Es un lujoso penthouse situado en el
distinguido barrio de Aoyama, Tokyo. Este arquitecto americano
ha colaborado con algunos de los arquitectos más reconocidos
mundialmente, y es conocido sobre todo por ser quien ha
decorado algunas de las tiendas más espléndidas de Louis
Vuitton, como el “LV Roppongi” en Tokyo y “LV Maison” en el
Champs Elysées de Paris.
Para darle forma a esta excepcional 2a residencia, que parece
flotar sobre el horizonte de la capital Japonesa, se le dio el
concepto europeo de “casa de campo para fin de semana”.

To shape this exceptional 2nd residence that seems to float
on the skyline of the Japanese capital, the European concept
of “a weekend house in the countryside” was implemented.
Carbondale conceived a complete line of 24 pieces of furniture
in massive wood components following the spirit of the Japanese
woodworking tradition to achieve a singular language and
spatial unity.
The aim was to reconstitute the analogy of a forest in an urban
space and the only requirement was to use a specific wood
from New Zealand. The result was an island of serenity perched
between the earth and sky, in which the furnishings imbued with
the harmony found under the forest canopy. Purity and unity
merge towards an innovative design where the pure vertical lines
are a common thread, woven through each piece of furniture.
