IN NEED OF A SHEPHERD
For a while it was very fashionable to own
pigs as pets. The publicity surrounding these
creatures informed us that they were—
contrary to their popular image— very clean
animals, and also quite smart. Sad to say,
sheep will most likely never enjoy this sort of
domestic vogue. They are neither clean nor
smart and are largely defenseless when left on their
own, even in large numbers. The biblical image of us as
the flock of sheep is not a particularly flattering one.
Sheep without a shepherd are truly sad, because they
most likely will perish either from their inability to fend
for themselves or from their lack of defenses against
predators. Placing ourselves in the heart of this unflattering image can reinforce our faith. Until we come to a
profound realization of how much we need a shepherd,
we cannot appreciate how deeply blessed we are to
have been given a Shepherd, one who laid down his life
for us and was raised to life eternal in the Spirit, so he
might guide us and we might follow him in faith forever.

SE NECESITA UN PASTOR
Por un tiempo estuvo de moda tener cerdos
como mascotas. La publicidad que rodeó a estas criaturas nos informó que, contrario a la
imagen popular, son animals muy limpios y
también bastante inteligentes. Resulta triste
decirlo, pero las ovejas probablemente nunca
gozarán de este tipo de popularidad doméstica.
Ni limpias ni inteligentes, son mayormente indefensas
cuando se dejan solas, aunque el rebaño sea numeroso.
La imagen bíblica de que somos un rebaño de ovejas no
resulta muy favorecedora. Triste es el caso de las ovejas
sin pastor porque, sin duda, perecerán dada su incapacidad de valerse por sí mismas o su carencia de defensas
contra sus predadores. Colocarnos al centro de esta imagen poco favorecedora puede fortalecer nuestra fe. Sólo
cuando tomamos profunda conciencia de que necesitamos un pastor, podemos apreciar nuestras bendiciones
al haber sido entregados al Pastor, a aquél que dio su
vida por nosotros y fue resucitado para la vida eterna en
el Espíritu, a fin de poder guiarnos por siempre mientras

Blessing of Graduates next weekend
Its graduation season and many parishioners are celebrating their graduation from different levels of education. Our parish school will celebrate its graduation with
a Baccalaureate Mass this Thursday, May 19th, during
the 8:00 AM Daily Mass, and have their graduation ceremony that evening.
To honor all our parishioners who are graduating, we will
have a special blessing of the graduates at all our Masses
next weekend.
Catholic Home Missions Appeal
Next Sunday
Bishop Kicanas asks that you be generous in the Catholic
home Mission Appeal and help strengthen the Church at
home. The commitment of the church in poor dioceses across
the country is not without challenge, as many of the parishes
in these mission dioceses are unable to support their core ministries. Many parishes are also separated by long distances
and rough terrain and face the realities of poverty and priest
shortages.
Sustaining pastoral work in poorer diocese in the United
States is made possible through our support of the Catholic
Home Missions Appeal. This appeal supports essential pastoral outreach in home mission dioceses: evangelization, seminary formation, aid to parishes and lay ministry training.

Baptism Classes Coming Soon!
Attendance at a baptism preparation series is required
before baptizing your child. The next series is scheduled
for the following evenings in January from 6:00 PM to
8:00 PM:
Thursday, May 26th,
Thursday, June 2nd,
Thursday, June 9th.
If you would like to have your child baptized during June,
July, August or September and have not attended a series,
plan on attending the sessions listed above. (Baptisms are
not celebrated during Advent or Lent.) The next series will be
offered in September. Registration and a phone conversation
is required prior to attending the series. Call Mary Ann Gielow
(795-1633, ext 102).

If you regularly attend either the 7:00, 9:00 or 11:00 AM
Mass on Sundays, remember you will have to choose a
different time to offer praise and thanks to God for the
blessings of the week beginning on Sunday, May 29th.
Your choices will be 8:00 and 10:00 AM.

graduación. Nuestra escuela parroquial festejará su
graduación este jueves 19 de mayo, durante la Misa
diaria de 8:00AM, con una Misa con Sermón Especial
para Graduados, y esa noche tendrán su ceremonia de
graduación.
Para honrar a nuestros parroquianos graduantes,
tendremos una bendición especial para ellos en todas

El próximo domingo
El Obispo Kicanas les pide que sean generosos donando a la Campaña Católica para Misiones Locales ayudando
a fortalecer a la Iglesia local. El compromiso de la iglesia
en las diócesis pobres de todo el país es todo un reto, ya
que muchas parroquias en estas diócesis misioneras no
pueden sostener sus mínimos ministerios. Muchas parroquias también están muy distantes y en terrenos difíciles y
son pobres y faltas de sacerdotes.
La Campaña Católica para las Misiones Locales apoya y
hace posible el difícil trabajo pastoral en las diócesis más
pobres: evangelización, formación para seminario, asistencia a parroquias y entrenamiento a ministerios laicos.

Para bautizar a su niño/a se requiere asistir a una serie
de preparación para el Bautismo, antes de bautizar a su
hijo. La siguiente serie está programada para las siguientes noches de mayo y junio, de 6:00—8:00 PM:

Martes 31 de junio.
Si usted desea que su niño/a sea bautizado durante junio,
julio, agosto o septiembre, y no ha asistido a una serie,
haga planes para asistir a las sesiones detalladas arriba.
