In today’s society, we no longer acquire tangible products, but sensations, concepts and ideals. Products often allow us to obtain emotional benefits. Supermercado Universal emerged with the premise of showing these concepts, packaged and on sale. “I am all for an art which grows without realising it is art, an art which has the chance to start from scratch. I am all for an art which imitates people, that is to say, a cosmic art, even violent, or any other thing which takes shape from the lines of life itself, which squirms, stretches, piles up, comes out, drips, and is heavy and rough and sweet and stupid, like life itself” (Claes Oldenburg). I propose a new concept of fashion, in which the garments take on a unique and perennial value, similar to that of works of art. Art is able to capture what slips through the fingers of fashion, which by definition is a tentative attempt to set a personal and collective taste, which is both current and in constant evolution. The aim of this collection is, however, to create dresses which reflect a timeless fashion: jewellery garments. Marta Ferrari. Desde hace siete años reside en Madrid. Diplo- Marta Ferrari. 56 Gjøvik, Noruega, 1982 [email protected] Celltile is a new system for the division of spaces, which emerged as a response to environmental and social issues. By nature, we are always undergoing a constant evolution, and it is becoming increasingly obvious that there is a need for the spaces we occupy to respond and adapt to our needs. This piece is a modular solution for punnets and wall covering, which can be intuitively and quickly installed, and is multifunctional. It is made from recycled and recyclable materials, which are claimed to be useful and applicable in many fields, whilst still taking into account aesthetic considerations. Celltile permits the inclusion of units suitable for the growing of plants, with the aim of bringing nature to our day to day sphere, and preventing its exile from our cities and homes. Celltile offers the necessary flexibility demanded by emerging lifestyles, although it can also function in public spaces, where it can be used as divisions in pavilions, in window-dressing, and even in the workplace. The units’ are produced in such a way that it is possible to create straight geometric and organic shapes. Educación y Derechos Humanos is a global project which encompasses very diverse fields, such as children’s activity workshops, game books about human rights, etc. but, above all, it is aimed at children and adults who wish to regain their hope and belief that a better world is possible. This positive approach gives rise to an understanding of the values laid out in the Declaration as a way to build a different reality. This is what the series of posters reveals: an attempt to turn around the reality we are surrounded by, seeing it as another step toward hope, where any day to day action, however small, may bring about a great change. One has to think that the last thing they will do when you die is to dress you in something special, something that represents what your life was. The clothing of the deceased does not just tell who they were in life (like the military –buried in their uniforms–, or monks), but also the moment when their life was cut short. Since Baroque times women who died young were dressed in their party dress –it was said that they were like flowers cut by the hand of death. This is about making a collection of suits for men and women that will resemble clothes for dead people: sorrow, solemnity, seriousness, but with something personal, that keeps alive the memory of the deceased. This work is dedicated to Samuel and Michael, who were born joined by their shoulders. They were separated soon after their birth, but were disfigured, and even their family rejected them. They grew up never forgetting about their other side, and hating the world for separating them. The only person who was able to understand the twins was their grandmother. Although she was already suffering the ailments of old age, she spent most of her time, when she was lucid enough, making things for the twins, knitting, sewing when she could. She never stopped knitting. She did not stop even when, in their failed attempt to rejoin, the twins tried to sew themselves together and bled to death, because of their own madness. At one time or another, we have all felt this way, incomplete, as if a part of our body had been strangely taken from us. Leticia Horvath Rita. The Arac project is conceived as a leisure pavilion for the Parque Lineal del Manzanares. It takes spider webs as its starting point: “known for their perfection, spiders weave their web with a viscous centre, radia, frame and spiral.” After carrying out comprehensive research into the weaving and structure of spider webs, the artist came up with the idea of building a pavilion which changed the concept of formal buildings, by eliminating the roof, walls and floors and leaving a structure which is entirely integrated in its surroundings, like a huge spider web. The pavilion is formed bt 4 pillars (trees), a network of ropes anchored to the surface and some canvas, which is strategically placed on the structure in order to create shady areas and provide a resting and leisure space for users. “Nothing should be put on show that is not in function” (Lodoli). This collection consists of the development, in the shape of garments, of a series of pieces devised for an exhibition. Starting from handmade objects associated with a feminine language, a criticism of the role that fashion assigns to women is presented. The pieces produced are of a processual nature and express the idea of the absurd and useless, they also speak on the non-existence of a space for reflection around fashion and reveal conflicts, like the overvaluation of industrial processes and the recognition of the “fashion” product through the economy of times. “Here is the piece of cloth and you know what to do with it, all you need is a little art for it to begin to dress your body. You can fiddle with it how and when you want.” The result is a garment that isn’t a garment until someone begins to interact with it, with a different guideline from that which is normally followed when one wants to get dressed. One must find the way to wrap oneself up without the help of buttons, armholes and collars, detaching oneself from the established forms that mark a style, fashion, place, social position or possessions. The collection of Origami bags is inspired by the concept of Koi carp, a fish which resulted from the transformation of the common carp which is mainly found in the Caspian Sea and throughout Asia. The Koi fish, which can be of several different colours, has an important place in Chinese mythology, which narrates how the Koi, after overcoming many obstacles and swimming up stream, succeeded in reaching the Bridge of the Dragon, and was turned into this animal. In China the dragon is a symbol of protection and good luck. The Origami technique was used to transfer this idea of transformation to the bag. The reinterpretation of the credits for the film Pulp Fiction is based on a sober and swift sequence of vintage illustrations, which are accompanied by a very powerful piece of music. The combination of the austerity of the graphics and the energetic music is faithful to the atmosphere of the film. 16 Horsepower was conceived as the title-page for a musical DVD, as this is a format which is open to very free work from the narrative point of view. It consists of using images to convey the impressions transmitted by the music, as part of the darkest western movie sense of aesthetics. The global chaos our society is facing is forcing us to think about the need to create new ways of life, in an attempt to find a balance between us and the surrounding world. The use of synthetic fabrics, highly toxic pesticides on crops and chemical dyes on garments has drastic consequences, not only on the environment but on our lives. By restoring organic crops, traditional weaving techniques, the use of natural dyes, etc. we not only contribute to preserving the balance of the environment, but can also define ourselves. Traditional farming and weaving method have practically died out, which is why, for this project, linen is grown following traditional and environmentally friendly methods. By respecting each stage, from growing the plant to the final fabric, we arrive at a garment which does not harm the environment. Alba Remeseiro. Perdido tells the story of Shiro, a boy who, after the loss of a loved one, finds a piece a paper on which the words “Be free” are written. He arrives at the city and realises he cannot escape from it; the place has become a maze and he always returns to the same place, bumps into the same streets and the same impassable walls. He finally meets Nina, a girl who is also “lost”, and together they find the way out of the city, and get to understand the true meaning of “being free”. Juliana Restrepo. Taking the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the central point of the project, the artist proposes a journey through history, reflecting on the before and after of this event, on what we have done, and sometimes undone, for the rights of men and women. History and its realities serve as key elements for raising the viewer’s awareness. Thus, by means of pictograms, the artist recreates similar situations which took place, or continue to take place, both before and after the Declaration, in 1948. A publication will be accompanied by a series of posters and a website as advertising campaign. As if it were another organism in this ecosystem, Kaméleon attempts to adapt to the terrain, to the space, mutating throughout its journey and creeping after its adaptation. Kaméleon is externally integrated into the environment whilst it plays with an interior world, a different world which is full of life. Kaméleon is aimed at facilitating sustainable leisure, by offering visitors the necessary tools to enjoy the sports facilities in the park. COLLECTION P/V 08 Fernando Soriano Iglesias Madrid, 1983 [email protected] www.iqons.com/Fernando Soriano Dress “U” Up Fast propone la filosofía: identifíca-t (identify-u). Dress “U” Up Fast puts forward the philosophy: identifíca-t (identify-u). The project consists of “making the garment to measure”, so it is the garment itself which gives the user the possibility of transforming it according to one’s body size and personality, permitting everyone to express themselves freely. To this end, a limited range of colours have been chosen, voluntarily removed from general trends, in order to favour the identity of whoever wears the dress, corresponding absolutely with the main message. That is also the reason for the choice of material, which heightens that idea of “made to measure”, achieving in its entirety a garment which is linked to its wearer and singular for whoever is looking at it, precisely because it changes according to the needs of each wearer profile.
