Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
Six months ago 18 people
arrived at a meeting to discuss
how we could support those
people in our community who needed the most
help. Each
person talked about their passion and interest,
resulting in four primary focuses: the unborn,
at-risk teenagers, the homeless and the elderly.
A sub-committee was formed for each group
and activities have been developed.
You may have noticed the Protection of the
Unborn booth at the festival this year. Located
just inside the school door, the display included
an amazing video on the development of the
child in the womb, from embryo to 40-week
baby. The process of life is so profound and
speaks to the power and life of God at work.
The booth also had many items to view and take
with you. At first, it seemed like an odd location
(next the gym), but this proved to work out very
well.
Another sub-committee is working with the
elderly. This year we are planning to get our
grade school (junior high) students involved with
visiting one of our healthcare facilities. So many
people in such facilities receive few, if any,
visitors. So many youth (and adults) are
uncomfortable with these facilities. Hopefully,
through this program, both the students and the
elderly will be blessed and see each other as
human beings, deserving of love and care.
Other things are being planned by the
sub-committees (e.g. the cookie drive for the
homeless). If this work interests you, give me a
call. We would love to have more participation.

New Bible Stud
The next Bible studies begin the
week of Sep. 14th. They will be
offered three times:
Monday evenings beginning on
Sept. 14, from 7 to 9pm
Thursday afternoons beginning
Sept. 17, from 12:30 to 2pm
Thursday evenings beginning
Sept. 17, from 7 to 9pm
All three sessions will be a 10 week study on the
book of James. Please join us at any of these
sessions as we study the book of James.
James is one of the most practical books of the
Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of
wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues faced
by ordinary Christians in everyday life. These
teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn
between the competing demands of this world and
their faith. The study offers "pearls of wise living"
by applying the wisdom of James to the present
day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly
Christian life, James offers a wealth of practical
solutions for handling and even sanctifying
everyday circumstances.

“Remember, then, that you received a spiritual
seal, the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit
of holy fear. Keep safe what you received. God
the Father sealed you, Christ the Lord strengthened you and sent the Spirit into your hearts as
the pledge of what is to come.”

School Volunteers
Holy Spirit School is back in
session. Our School Volunteers have had a wonderful
year working with students in
the K-3 classrooms during
the 90 minute reading block.
We read to or with the students once a week or once
every other week. We also had volunteers working
with students in grades 4-6 in reading and math. Besides our work in school our group also occasionally
meets for breakfast or lunch. Working as a school
volunteer is a great way to help Holy Spirit School
and spend time with a great group of parishioners. If
you would be interested in joining our School Volunteer Group, please call Judy Miller at 317-891-2752
or send an email to [email protected]

PARTICIPANTS IN EUCHARISTIC ADORATION FOR
FIRST FRIDAYS AND LENT FRIDAYS NEEDED
First Friday Adoration is the ministry of spending
time in prayer in the presence of our Lord Jesus
present in the Holy Eucharist which is exposed in
the monstrance for adoration. We have adoration
on the first Friday of each month and also every
Friday during the Season of Lent. It is a sacred
and intimate time with our Lord. He longs for our
presence and devoted company. It is a joy and
blessing to spend some time in His loving
presence. You may participate by signing this
form and letting us know your most convenient
time to come. Adoration takes place in our
chapel. You may stay for a few minutes, an hour,
or as long as you desire. We start First Friday
Adoration of each month and every Friday during
lent, after the 8:30am Mass, and conclude at
5:15pm with the Benediction, before the 5:30
Mass.
If interested in this ministry, please fill out the form
below and turn it into the collection basket or the
parish office. Additional forms are available in the

No
por lo que hizo por nosotros. Pero
si, por una hora de
compañerismo.
( Arsobispo Fulton Sheen)

Autor: Su santidad Juan Pablo II

Recientemente, a
y Lourdes.
