PACIFIC GROVE WEEKLY SUMMARY
PACIFIC GROVE WEEKLY SUMMARY
February 7, 2014
CITY COUNCIL
Major actions taken by the Council at its regular meeting on February 5, 2014 include:
 Adopted an ordinance making permanent the increase of paring limits in the downtown
area to two hours.
 Received the report summarizing the results of the Police Services Survey, which elicited
over 1,000 responses by Pacific Grove residents and businesspeople. The survey
indicated that citizens desire to retain Pacific Grove’s patrol officers and sergeants, and
that the City can explore sharing of services in other areas (primarily support and
administrative) with other jurisdictions in order to increase capabilities and reduce costs.
The Council directed the City Manager and Police Chief to begin those discussions.
 Received a report on the status of the City organization, given the current staffing
situation and challenges. The Council directed the City Manager to proceed with highpriority recruitments and return to the Council with a plan for additional needed steps.
 Created a homeless persons’ assistance fund and Council Committee, comprising
Councilmembers Cuneo and Fischer, to work with neighboring cities to initiate regional
efforts to address homelessness and assist those persons who are homeless in our
community.
 Received a report on the status of Aberg v. City of Pacific Grove.
The City Council and City Manager
also recognized Sal de Franco as the
Employee of the Quarter, as
selected by his peers, for his
outstanding dedication to our
community and his duties, including
his efforts to mentor and train new
employees and others.
The agenda reports and supporting
documents for all of these actions
are on the City’s website, at
http://www.ci.pg.ca.us.
Details of the actions
taken will also be available, upon completion and adoption of the meeting minutes,
which will also be posted on the website.
David Concepción will be leaving the City of Pacific Grove to the North Bay area
and was recognized by the Council and Manager for his commitment to the City.
He will be succeeded by Debi Thomsen, CMC who comes to the City of Pacific
Grove with many years of experience in the world of Municipal Clerks. If you see
Debi around town, please make sure to welcome her!

Water Management District Approves Interim Conservation Measures. The Monterey
Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) Board of Directors has voted unanimously to
approve a set of increased interim conservation measures to help combat the effects of the third
year of drought on the Monterey Peninsula. These measures include an increased level of
conservation-focused public outreach and additional riparian vegetation and fisheries activities
along the Carmel River.

Stage 1 Water Conservation is in Effect. Monterey Peninsula: Special rules for a special
community: The Peninsula is now operating under Stage 1 of the Expanded Conservation Plan.
This is a joint conservation program between the Monterey Peninsula Water Management
District (MPWMD) and California American Water, in effect since March 1, 1999. Adhering to
this plan is critical to protect our water supply and the sensitive natural environment of the
Carmel River.
Under Stage One, a limited two-day per week watering scheduling is required – unless ET
controllers are being used - and water waste is prohibited.

Natural gas pipeline
work is starting soon
in your neighborhood
«CUSTOMER_NAME»
Dear Valued Customer:
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will be upgrading a portion of our natural gas distribution system
th
serving Spazier and Hillcrest Avenues, between 19 Street and Forest Avenue, on Forest Avenue, between
Spazier and Beaumont Avenues, in the alley way between Beaumont and Hillcrest Avenues from Forest
th
th
Avenue to 14 Street, on 14 Street, from the alley way to Hillcrest Avenue, and on Fountain Avenue, from the
alley way to Beaumont Avenue, in Pacific Grove. This project will improve the safety and integrity of the
pipelines that deliver natural gas directly to homes and businesses. Work is expected to start in mid- to late
January, and last until early May, although weather and other factors affecting safe working conditions could
change the schedule.
Attend an open house
To learn more about this project and PG&E’s safety programs, stop by anytime during our open house:
th
Wednesday, January 8 , 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Pacific Grove Middle School – Library, 835 Forest Avenue, Pacific Grove
What to expect
Most of the pipelines that will be replaced are located under the street, although a portion of the replacement
work will take place on private property. If your property will be affected, a PG&E representative will contact
you before work begins. We will also let you know if your gas service will be interrupted. During construction,
you will see PG&E and contractor trucks and other heavy equipment. At the end of the project, PG&E will
refinish roadways and work with property owners to restore landscaping.
Traffic will be routed around work areas. Although access to some driveways may be occasionally affected,
crews can provide access within a few minutes of your request. However, please plan ahead and use caution
for this minor delay if crews are working outside your home or business.
At times, you may smell gas and hear a loud hissing noise as we vent natural gas from the pipeline using safe
and common techniques. Although this is normal when crews are working, we encourage anyone who has
concerns about the smell of gas to call us 24 hours a day at 1-800-743-5000.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation. This letter requires no action on your part.
Sincerely,
Bruce Pitcher

transportan gas natural directamente a viviendas y negocios.
gas fuera a interrumpirse.
