I know that this leadership structure will benefit all our churches and help facilitate communication and interparish collaboration. I am pleased to introduce to you at our masses the inter-parish commission coordinators, who directly work in parishes to reach our short-term and long-term goals: Estoy emocionado y muy complacido en darle a saber a nuestras iglesias que hemos alcanzado otra milla en los esfuerzos continuos de tener un claro y factible plan de ministerios en nuestras parroquias. SUNNY CASTILLO – Liturgy and Worship. As your pastor, I continue to be the primary liturgist of the parish, and will continue to work with liturgical ministers to provide meaningful and prayerful liturgies and Eucharistic celebrations in our churches. FR. ROY JACOB, CMI – Pastoral Care. Fr. Roy heads the team of parishioners who are the bearers of divine compassion and hope for our parishioners who are suffering or struggling with difficult realities of life, including visiting the sick and homebound, caring for the bereaved, and reaching out to those who need spiritual guidance. JACOB LEVY – Formation and Evangelization. Jacob has been doing this in our community for at least a couple of years now, and the programs of formation that he has been working with will continue to grow and respond to our need to learn about our faith and share our faith to others. DON CIACCIO – Finance and Administration. Don Ciaccio has roots in our three churches, and has great gifts and experiences in systems analysis and parish financial management. He is directly responsible as a resource in the areas of finance, buildings and grounds, staff management and fundraising. FR. FREDY SANTOS, CSV – Hispanic Commission. Fr. Fredy has a history with our Hispanic community here in Kankakee even before I came here in the area five years ago. He is working directly with the Hispanic community to address the direct needs of our Latino brothers and sisters, and to help in realizing mission-vision goals for our inter-parish Hispanic ministries. KATHY DUMMER – Parish Life. Kathy Dummer also has various connections in the Kankakee Community as a whole, and within our parishes in particular. She is called to foster and strengthen the spirit of our community, of being one family in faith, and growing together in our unity amidst our diversity. She also works with all parish organizations, like the CCW, the Knights of Columbus and the Daughters of St. Anne. TERI O’CONNOR – Outreach. All the outreach efforts of our churches benefit from the gifts of Teri in promoting, fostering and inspiring the spirit of generosity and sacrifice for the sake of the needy and the marginalized in our community and beyond. She encourages our parishioners to work together for common causes, like the Azzarelli Clinic, the Catholic Food Pantry and the back-to-school outreach. DAVID STEJKOWSKI – Visioning Commission. I have placed my full confidence in David to help us discern what the future holds for our churches, and to hear the pulse of the people. As the Chairman of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, he definitely brings perspectives bigger than the reality of the Catholic Church in our city. PADRE ROY JACOB, CMI - Cuidado Pastoral. Thank you to our Commission Coordinators for their enthusiasm. I am sure that our parishioners will get to know them even better as they serve our churches. The work has begun, and I am confident of the fruits that we will reap ahead. God bless our church! Current research (and common sense) shows us that a smile is contagious. It can make us appear more attractive to others. It lifts our mood as well as the moods of those around us. And it can even lengthen our lives. How smiling affects your brain? Each time you smile you throw a little feel-good party in your brain. The act of smiling activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness. Details next week – keep smiling. Do you know someone who is just so relentless? He tirelessly makes his point! She keeps at it and does not back down. They ask...and ask again...and yet again! Abraham, the merciful one, is just like that—reread of his persistence in Genesis 18:2032. the friend is just like that, too, in Luke 11:1-13. And Jesus tells all who hear, and that is us today as well, be just like that in addressing god. Ask. Seek. Knock. Few words, fewer actions, great persistence. How will my prayer be persistent this week? For whom and for what will I pray? How can I respond like God and open my door (and my heart), give food to the hungry, bargain for the innocent? ST TERESA PARISH PAGE 6 When the light touches the darkness… One day, Mother Teresa was walking through the streets of Calcutta thinking about the miseries and anguish of the people in the streets. Suddenly her eyes captured a scene, some street boys throwing stones at someone who was so advanced in age, whose body was full of wounds with odor and stinking. They were chasing him away from the town. Mother felt so sad and rushed to the spot, scolded the children and sends them out. Then Mother Teresa took him to the convent and began to treat him. But this man was continuously speaking abusive words and language because he hated everything and everyone. Mother simply ignored everything with great peace of mind. After washing and treating his wounds well, he stopped saying foul language. He looked at the eyes of the mother and asked why do you treat me in this way with strong love in spite of all the foulness and fetor of my wounds. Mother with a smiling face replied, “There is someone whom I love most, that is Jesus the Son of God. I see his figure in your eyes, and that is the only reason I love and treat you with utmost care and love.” In a few days he died with a great peace of mind. We know that the sun becomes brightest at the middle of the day but the ever beautiful time of the day is not noon but morning and evening. Because they are the moments of the day and the night intersecting together. The morning sun removes the darkness of the night. In the same way the beautiful moments of our life are when people love each other and takes care of the other: it is the moment that we identify that the other is my brother. When it happens in our life, we say the darkness removed, and light filled all over. The word of God says, “Whoever says he is in the light, yet hates his brother, is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him to cause a fall. Whoever hates his brother is in darkness; he walks in darkness and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes” ( 1 John 2: 8-11). The sun shines by itself but the moon and the other planets share the light of the sun, they borrow the light from the sun for it cannot shine by itself. We are not light by ourselves but darkness, unless we share the light of God. To be shone like the sun, we need the rays of God to be penetrated into our hearts. The word of God teaches us. “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another.” 1 John 1:6-7. There are many in the world who still live in utter hatred and revenge due to many reasons. It is not the one who was hated who needs our pity but the one who hates his brother. Because he is in darkness and spiritual blindness. The word of God reminds us “See to it that no one is deprived of the grace of God, that no bitter root spring up and cause trouble, through which many may become defiled.” Heb: 12:15. Therefore let us try to be in the light of God and permeate that love all around us. Have a great Week!
