“…They all ate and were satisfied…”

Lucas 9, 11-19
Through the power of the Holy Spirit we are able
to read the Gospel of St. Luke and believe that Jesus took five small loaves and fed thousands until
they all ate and were satisfied. They were hungry,
they needed physical nourishment. During the
Mass the same Spirit in an act of infinite love,
changes bread and wine into the Body and Blood of
Jesus Christ and then gives us that heavenly food
that satisfies our deepest need for Communion with
infinite Love, food that sustains us as the Body of
Christ. Through Baptism we are re-born into the
resurrection of Christ and through the Eucharist we
are given the Bread of Heaven the enables us to
grow in being the Body of Christ. Holy Communion
is food for life, not a prize we win for being “Good”;
we need to be fed on this bread of Life.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus sent the apostles to
a village to purchase food for them. When the returned they offered some of the food to Jesus who
declined to eat, saying that he had already been
nourished through communion with the Father.
(Jn 4:30) A human person is loved into life.
Through Communion with Jesus the Christ, Love
made flesh we are nourished into being the person
we were created to be. Because of original sin, we
reject the truth of who we are and hide for God, Jesus saves us by fully living our humanity, even unto
death. Through Holy Communion we are one in
HIS BODY.
A través del poder del Espíritu Santo somos capaces
de leer el Evangelio de San Lucas y creemos que
Jesús tomó cinco panes y alimentó a miles hasta que
todos comieron hasta saciarse. Tenían hambre y
necesitaban alimento físico. Durante la misa el
mismo Espíritu, en un acto de amor infinito, cambia
el pan y el vino en el Cuerpo y la Sangre de
Jesucristo. Luego nos da ese alimento celestial que
satisface nuestras necesidades más profundas de la
comunión con el infinito amor, alimento que nos
sostiene como el Cuerpo de Cristo. Por el Bautismo
somos nacidos otra vez en la resurrección de Cristo y
por medio de la Eucaristía se nos da el pan del cielo
que nos permite crecer en ser el Cuerpo de Cristo. La
Santa Comunión es alimento para la vida, no un
premio que ganamos por ser "bueno"; tenemos que
ser alimentados con este pan de vida.
En el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús envió a los
apóstoles a un pueblo a comprar comida para ellos.
Cuando volvieron, ellos le ofrecen algunos de los
alimentos a Jesús pero él se negó a comer, diciendo
que ya había sido alimentado por la comunión con el
Padre (Jn 4:30). Un ser humano es amado en la vida.
A través de la comunión con Jesús el Cristo, el Amor
hecho carne, somos alimentados a ser la persona que
fuimos creados para ser. A causa del pecado original,

escondemos de Dios, Jesús nos salva por vivir

minutes of reflection on the meaning of God as Father as a prelude to Father’s Day celebrations. The

We are happy to announce that beginning June, the
Children’s Choir will be able to lead the music once a
month at the 9:00am Mass.

Reminders on Receiving Holy Communion
It is common to receive Holy Communion under two
Species, but a person always receive the full Body and
Blood of Jesus Christ if the person received only the
Consecrated Host, OR the Precious Blood or under
BOTH SPECIES. When we receive from the Chalice, we
need to remember the suffering of Jesus until death and
his resurrection. It is NOT NECESSARY to receive
under both species.
In hand or the tongue. The preferred way of receiving
Communion is in the hand, but there is always the option to receive on the Tongue
If a person is not able to receive Holy Communion
there is the present custom to cross the arms over one's
heart as a sign of the desire to receive a Blessing.
It has happened that a non-Catholic or children, who
does not understand the gift of the Eucharist, have received Communion and then remove the Blessed Sacrament and leave it in the church, or children might take a
host from the offertory table, if you see a host in the
church please immediately take it to the sacristy.
Recordatorios sobre la Santa Comunión
Es común a recibir la Santa Comunión bajo las dos especies, pero una persona siempre recibe el cuerpo y la Sangre

cuerpo de la mesa del ofertorio. Si ven una hostia en la iglesia por favor llévelo inmediatamente a la Sacristía.
Mass Dress Attire

Frequently people comment on what is proper attire for
attending Mass. First we are joyful that so many of
God’s children attend Mass, and we are also aware that
we do not always dress appropriately. I would suggest
that you consider dressing as if you were to attend a
funeral of a loved one. I say this because people dress
for a “Party” in ways that frequently are not appropriate, but generally people dress well for a funeral. Come
dressed for a funeral and leave with the joy of the Risen
Christ!
Frecuentemente la gente comenta sobre la vestimenta adecuada para ir a Misa. En primer lugar, estamos alegres de
que muchos de los hijos de Dios asisten a misa y también

Pedro del Leon Prepares for Deacon Ordination
Archbishop José Gómez has called Pedro de Leon to the
Holy Order of Deacon. With the gift of this sacrament,
Pedro will join Deacon Juan Navarro in serving our Parish Community. The Deacon is the Primary Minister of
the sacraments of Baptism and Marriage. At the Mass it
is the deacon who is designated to proclaim the Gospel,
only because of the lack of deacons, the priest functioning as a deacon proclaims it. Pedro is called to be ordained at the Cathedral on June 11th.

El Arzobispo José Gómez ha llamado a Pedro de León al
Santo Orden de Diácono. Con el regalo de este sacramento, Pedro se unirá al Diácono Juan Navarro al servicio de
nuestra Comunidad Parroquial. El Diácono es el Ministro
principal de los sacramentos de Bautismo y Matrimonio.
En la Misa, es el Diácono quien es designado a proclamar
el Evangelio, solo porque hay escasez de Diáconos, el sacerdote funciona como Diacono lo proclama. Pedro ha sido
llamado para ser ordenado en la Catedral el 11 de Junio.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of
Christ (Corpus Christi)
Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo

In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Lectionary’s
Year of Luke presents a Gospel in which Jesus,
who has welcomed, taught, healed, and shown
God’s mercy to the multitude, refuses the Twelve’s
demand to dismiss the crowd before him. Instead,
he says, “Give them some food yourselves” (Luke
9:13). In Jesus’ hands, what little the Twelve has
feeds five thousand (“men,” and probably as many
women and children), leaving twelve baskets so
the Twelve can continue Jesus’ ministry of mercy.
Pope Francis has asked how we celebrate and live
the Eucharist. Do we keep it to ourselves? Or do
we “commune” not only with Jesus but with the
multitude whom Jesus has given us to cherish?
Entrusted to Jesus and shared with others, our
limited resources can go a long way. Recognizing
Jesus in the Eucharist demands that we recognize
Jesus also in the hungry crowd. Adoring Jesus
present in the Eucharist requires that we serve
Jesus present in our neighbor.
En este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia coincide con la
lectura dominical del Evangelio de Lucas, este
domingo el Evangelio presenta a Jesús recibiendo,
enseñando, sanando y mostrando la misericordia de
Dios a la multitud y, también rechazando la solicitud
de los Doce de despedir a la multitud. Al contrario, él
dice “denles ustedes de comer” (Lucas 9:13). En las

we remember the Immaculate heart of Mary at the

Las registraciones de Confirmación será el Domingo 5 de
Junio de las 9:00am-1:00pm. Tanto los candidatos como
los padres deben asistir a una orientación antes de la registración. Si el candidato no está presente, el papá o mamá
no podrán regístralo/a. Deben traer las actas originales del
Bautizo y Primer Comunión, por favor NO COPIAS. Después de la orientación en el Salón Guadalupe, los papas
pasaran al Salón San José para completar la registración,
pagar la donación y allí recibirán el calendario. Las clases
comienza el 23 de julio del presente. Se dará más información el día de la registraciones sobre los diferentes niveles,
días y horarios de las clases. Gracias por escoger a la Parroquia de San José para el crecimiento espiritual de su hijo/a.

orientation prior to registration. If the candidate is not
present, parent will not be able to register him/her. Parent must bring the original Baptism and the First Communion certificates, please NO COPIES. After the orientation is heard in the Guadalupe Hall, parents will then
go to the St. Joseph Hall to complete the paper work, pay
the suggested donation of $85.00 per child and receive
the calendar. Classes will begin on July 23, 2016. More
information on the different tracks, days and times available for the classes will be given on the registration day.

During the next six weeks, about 500 of our younger
sisters and brothers will be celebrating their First Holy
Communion. The next group to receive their First Holy
Communion from our Religious Education Program is
scheduled for June 4th at 8:00AM . Please continue to
pray for all of them and their families that they always
hunger for Jesus the Bread of Life.

Parish Center Plaza
An electric gate has been installed in the Parish
Center Plaza so that cars exit but should not enter the Plaza. As the parish continues to grow it
has become a concern that cars and people do
not mix well on the Plaza. This is especially true
when children are present. For these safety concerns the Plaza will be closed to cars Monday
through Friday after 3:30 in the afternoon.

Hace más de cinco años, después de un período de
prueba, la congregación parroquial confirmó que
sería mejor tener el actual sistema de proyección de
las lecturas y música durante las misas. La Parroquia
ordeno 70 copias de misales bilingües cuando
dejamos de proporcionar los misales para todos y lo
vendíamos a un costo mínimo a los que querían
comprar uno. Al final casi la mitad de ellos nunca
fueron adquiridos y empezó a crear una carga
