Una nota del pastor
En aquel tiempo, los judíos murmuraban contra
Jesús, porque había dicho: “Yo soy el pan vivo
que ha bajado del cielo”, y decían: “¿No es éste, Jesús, el hijo
de José? ¿Acaso no conocemos a su padre y a su madre?
¿Cómo nos dice ahora que ha bajado del cielo?”
Jesús les respondió: “No murmuren. Nadie puede venir
a mí, si no lo atrae el Padre, que me ha enviado; y a ése yo lo
resucitaré el último día. Está escrito en los profetas: Todos
serán discípulos de Dios. Todo aquel que escucha al Padre y
aprende de él, se acerca a mí. No es que alguien haya visto al
Padre, fuera de aquel que procede de Dios. Ese sí ha visto al
Padre.
Yo les aseguro: el que cree en mí, tiene vida eterna. Yo
soy el pan de la vida. Sus padres comieron el maná en el
desierto y sin embargo, murieron. Éste es el pan que ha bajado
del cielo para que, quien lo coma, no muera. Yo soy el pan vivo
que ha bajado del cielo; el que coma de este pan vivirá para
siempre. Y el pan que yo les voy a dar es mi carne para que el
mundo tenga vida”. (Juan 6, 41-51)
Contrario a lo que la gente pueda
pensar, la predicación y la enseñanza de Jesús no fue
recibida con entusiasmo inmediatamente. Después que
Jesús completo su discurso sobre el pan de vida, el
evangelio de San Juan continua diciéndonos; “que
muchos de sus discípulos regresaron a su forma de vida
antigua y ya no lo siguieron”{Juan 6:66}en la edad media
cuando la biblia fue puesta en forma de libros y números
de capítulos y versos fueron introducidos, este pasaje fue
redactado y enumerado 666, la antigua marca del
enemigo. Esto sufrago como la malevolencia se iba
construyendo realineándose y reagrupándose, aun en el
comienzo del ministerio de Jesús, como es indicado por
este gran grupo de gente alejándose del mensaje de
Cristo. Más adelante en el evangelio veremos este mismo
grupo de personas exigiendo la crucifixión ante Pilato.
Mantengamos claro en nuestras mentes que Jesús fue
crucificado, no porque cometiera un grave delito, como
ultraje, homicidio, incesto o traición, sino porque reto la
creencia de la gente. Como este hombre va a decir que
vino del cielo? Como es el pan? Como es el la vida?
Como es el la verdad? Y como el nos va a prometer
eternidad?
Esta misma dinámica se realiza hoy en
nuestra iglesia y sociedad en grande. La gente rechaza a
Jesús, Dios y la salvación, porque no pueden poner sus
mentes alrededor de cosas sobrenaturales. Es así de
simple. En una forma fundamental la gente tiene
problema en ver aquí y ahora la realidad presente en la
que viven y trabajan. Cuando Jesús predico y enseno
siempre llamo a la gente a mirar más allá de aquí y
ahora, a la gran realidad que es el reino de Dios, que al
cumplirse el tiempo será restaurado por El en su gloria. El
hace esto usando muchas metáforas, comparaciones
que dirigen la gente a la gran realidad que el reino de
Dios.
Miren por ejemplo a Jesús en la oración,
específicamente Mateo 6:9-12 donde se encuentra la
oración del Padre Nuestro, Jesús usa una palabra griega
que ha sido traducida simplemente como pan, pero es
mejor traducida entendida como
“pan superior”. Como deben saber, el griego era uno de
los lenguajes principales que se hablaban en Israel en el
tiempo de Jesús, junto con el arameo, y el hebreo. En
aquel tiempo solo los romanos en la parte oeste de su
imperio hablaban latín. Pero regresemos a la predicación
de Jesús .en la oración del Padre nuestro decimos
“danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día”. Esto realmente
debe ser entendido por nosotros si estamos siendo fieles
a la intención del texto original: Señor danos el “pan
superior” que necesitamos diariamente, para cruzar cada
día, con todas nuestras necesidades y problemas.
En resumen Jesús siempre forzó a los que lo
escuchaban, por bien o por mal como en el evangelio de
hoy, a mira mas allá de aquí y ahora en este mundo
caído y a mirar con ojos de fe. Tristemente para esos que
escuchaban originalmente a Jesús en su discurso del
pan de vida, que paso mucho antes de la ultima cena, su
uso de muchas metáforas probo que era mucho para
ellos y lo rechazaron , que es tan triste.
Por eso hoy toma de corazón el mensaje de nuestro
Señor y su Evangelio. Jesús es el “Pan Superior” dado a
nosotros diariamente si queremos nos dará vida eterna.

A Note from the Pastor
The Jews murmured about Jesus because he
said, “I am the bread that came down from
heaven, ” and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the
son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then
how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus
answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring among
yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent
me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in
the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who
listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that
anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he
has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever
believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors
ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that
comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I
am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats
this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my
flesh for the life of the world. (John 6:41-51)
Contrary to what people might think, Jesus’
preaching and teaching was not always met by success.
Immediately after our Lord completed his Bread of Life
discourse John’s Gospel goes on to tell us; “that many of
his disciples returned to their former way of life and no
longer accompanied him.” (John 6:66) Back in the
Middle Ages, when the Bible was put into book form and
chapter and verse numbers were introduced, this
passage was redacted and numbered 666, the ancient
Jewish mark of evil. This underscores how malevolence
was building, regrouping and realigning even at the
beginning of Jesus active ministry, as indicated by this
large group of people just walking away from Jesus and
his message. Latter on in the Gospel we will see this
same group of people demanding from Pilot Jesus’
crucifixion. Let us keep clear in our minds that Jesus
was crucified not because he committed a capital crime
such as rape, murder, incest, treason, but because he
challenged people’s beliefs. How can this man say that
he came down from Heaven? How is he Bread? How is
he the Life? How is he the Truth? And how can he
promise us Eternity?
This same dynamic plays out today in
our church and in our society at large. People reject God,
Jesus, and salvation, because they cannot get their mind
around supernatural things. It is that simple. On a
fundamental level what people have trouble with is
looking beyond the here and now, the present reality in
which they live and work. When Jesus preached and
taught, he always called people to look beyond the here
and now, to the greater reality which is the Kingdom of
God, which at the fullness of time will be restored by him
to its glory. He does this by using many metaphors, comparisons that point people to the greater reality which is
the kingdom of God.
Take a look, for example, at Jesus’ preaching on
prayer, specifically the passage that contains the Lord’s
Prayer, Matthew 6:9-12. In ancient Greek, Jesus used a
word which has been translated simply as bread, but is
best translated as “Super-Bread”. As you may know,
Greek was one of the principal languages spoken in
Israel during Jesus’ time, along with Ancient Aramaic and
Hebrew. At that time only the Romans in the western part
of their Empire spoke Latin.
But, let’s go back to Jesus preaching. In the
prayer the Our Father we say “give us this day, our daily
bread.” This should really be understood by us, if we are
being faithful to the intention of the original texts: Lord,
give us the ‘Super-Bread’ that we need daily, to make it
through our days, with all of our needs, and cares, and
problems. In short, Jesus always forced his listeners, for
good or for bad as in today’s Gospel, to look beyond the
here and now in this fallen world, and to see with eyes of
faith. Sadly, for many of those original listeners of Jesus’
Bread of Life discourse, which took place long before the
Last Supper, his use of multiple metaphors proved too,
too much for them and they rejected him, which is just so,
so sad.
So, today, take to heart the message of Our Lord,
and this Gospel. Jesus is the “Super-Bread”, given to us
daily if we wish, that will bring us Life Eternal.
