Requisitos Para Bautizar




Se les pide a los Padres que asistan a Misa regularmente y que
participen en la vida de la Iglesia.
Asistir a las clases de preparación para el Sacramento de Bautismo en St. Catherine/otra Iglesia Católica.
Escoger Padrinos apropiados. Tiene que estar practicando la
Fe Católica.
 Padrinos necesitan ser mayores de 16 años.
 Tener todos sus sacramentos: Bautizo, Primera Comunión,
y Confirmación.
 Si los Padrinos son casados, necesitan estar casados en
la Iglesia Católica y proporcionar certificados de Matrimonio & Confirmación.
 Sin son solteros, no pueden estar viviendo en unión libre
con nadie y vivir una vida casta, y proporcionar certificados de 1a Comunión y Confirmación.
Los padres necesitan prometer que su hijo será educado en la
Fe Católica.
Para registrar a sus hijos necesitan:
1. Donación de $75.00 por un niño(a) o $100.00 por dos niños o
más por familia (no-reembolsable).
2. Estar registrados en la Iglesia a donde asisten a Misa y traer
una carta de permiso para bautizar en otra Iglesia si no vienen a
Sta. Catalina.
3. Acta de nacimiento.
4. Documentos Sacramentales de los padrinos.
Los Bautizos se llevan a cabo los Sábados por el Diacono Carlos Terrazas en la Capilla San Juan Bosco (no en la Iglesia).

Baptism Requirements

Parents are asked to attend Mass regularly and participate in
the life of the church.
 Attend the preparation classes for the Sacrament of Baptism at
St. Catherine’s (2 classes).
 Choose appropriate Godparent(s) who is practicing the faith
and is in communion with the Catholic Church.
 Must be 16 years of age or older
 Have all Sacraments: Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation and parents must bring proof of these the day of
registration.
 If the Godparent(s) is/are married, their Marriage must
have been celebrated in the Catholic Church and must provide the Church Marriage & Confirmation Certificates.
 If single, the Godparent(s) must be living a life of Chastity
and goodness and must provide certificate of 1st Holy
Communion & Confirmation.
 Parents must be committed to raising your child in our Catholic
Faith.
When registering your child bring:
1. Child(ren) birth certificate,
2. $75(1 child) or $100.00(2 or more)
3. Godparent’s sacramental certificates
4. Be registered to the church where you attend Mass and letter of permission to Baptize at St. Catherine (if applicable).
Baptisms take place on the scheduled Saturday at the parish.

The disorder introduced into our human nature by Adam’s fall from grace reveals
itself especially through seven dominant vices known in our Catholic tradition as
the capital sins. These are: pride, avarice, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth.
We call them “capital” sins (from the Latin caput, meaning “head”) because
they are the sources or fountainheads of all the sins people commit, whether sins
of commission or sins of omission. We call them “deadly” because they cause
spiritual death; Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen liked to call them the “seven pallbearers of the soul.”
Spiritual growth is impossible unless we try to dig up the roots of our sins with the
help of God’s illuminating and sanctifying grace.
Pride
The first of the seven deadly sins is pride, defined as inordinate self-esteem or selfimportance. Pride is the prolific source of countless sins, including presumption,
hypocrisy, disobedience to lawful superiors, hardheartedness to subordinates, acrimony, and boastfulness. Some of the ways in which sinful pride manifests itself
are: exaggerating one’s own talents, attributing to oneself qualities one lacks, magnifying other people’s defects, putting other people down, ingratitude, and failing to attribute one’s gifts and talents to God.
We know from Sacred Scripture that pride is the bottleneck of all graces (Jas 4:6); that it is self-ruinous (Lk 14:11);
that God hates it (Prov 8:13) and punishes it (Prov 16:5); and that it deprives one’s good works of merit in God’s
sight because it makes one perform them with a wrong intention (cf. Mt 6:1-2).
Humility, or poverty of spirit, is the opposite of pride. Just as pride is the foundational sin, so humility is the foundational virtue and thus ranks first among the Beatitudes (Mt 5:3). The virtue of humility makes us indifferent to
worldly power, prestige and riches, so that we might keep our focus on God, who alone is our supreme joy.
“Learn of me,” Jesus tells us, “because I am meek and humble of heart” (Mt 11:29). Imagine our divine Savior in
His Passion, undergoing the cruelest torments yet uttering no complaint and showing no resentment (cf. 1 Pt
2:23). Then pray: From the sin of pride deliver me, O Lord.
Avarice
Avarice, also known as covetousness or greed, is defined as the immoderate desire of earthly goods, especially those that belong to others. Of the Ten Commandments, two regulate not only our external actions but even
our internal desires. These are the ninth and tenth commandments, both of which forbid avarice (“You shall not
covet…”).
St Paul calls avarice the “root of all evils” (1 Tim 6:10). Robbery, theft, fraud, parsimony, and callousness toward
the poor all stem from avarice. But there are more subtle forms of avarice that may blind us to the sinfulness of
our actions. Some people imagine that just because they found some money or personal belongings, the items
belong to them (“Finders keepers!”). Unscrupulous contractors put in time not required for the job at hand, or
use inferior materials at a higher price. Gambling, playing the stock market, and purchasing goods on credit
are not in themselves sinful, but they become sins if a person risks loss so great that he cannot pay his debts
and support his dependents. Advertisers convince us that we must have the latest fashions or models, when we
could just as well continue to use our serviceable appliances, clothing, cars, smartphones, etc.
St Francis de Sales says that everyone claims to abhor avarice. We wax eloquent when we explain how we
must have the necessary things to get along in the world. But we never think we have enough, so we always
find ourselves wanting more. How often do we include avarice in our examination of conscience or bring it up
in confession?
We can enjoy the goods of this world, but we must be on guard not to become unduly attached to them and
thus fall into idolatry (cf. Eph 5:5). God alone is our supreme happiness. Of all people, Christians should not be
overly concerned with earthly goods; for our heavenly Father has care of us (cf. Mt 6:31-32). Does this mean we
should neglect our duties and occupations? Certainly not. It means that, while attending to our affairs, we must
not neglect the affairs of the soul. “Seek first [God’s] Kingdom and His righteousness,” Our Lord promises, “and
all these things shall be yours as well” (Mt 6:33).
Mercy is the virtue that opposes avarice. Peter Kreeft writes in Back to Virtue that avarice is “the centrifugal
reach to grab and keep the world’s goods for oneself,” whereas mercy is “the centripetal reach to give, to
share the world’s goods with others.” Mercy is the antidote to the greed that poisons the soul.
“Learn of me,” Jesus tells us, “because I am meek and humble of heart” (Mt 11:29). Imagine our Savior, whose
Passion depicts a progressive impoverishment. He is abandoned by most of His disciples, then stripped of all
honor and finally of life itself. Then pray: From the sin of avarice deliver me, O Lord.

P. 1: Los 7 Pecados Capitales: Orgullo,
Avaricia, Gula, Lujuria, Pereza, Envidia, Ira
Los pecados o vicios capitales son aquellos a los que la naturaleza humana caída está principalmente inclinada. Es por eso muy importante para todo el que desee avanzar en la santidad aprender a detectar estas tendencias en su propio corazón y examinarse sobre estos pecados.
San Buenaventura (Brevil., III,ix) enumera los mismos. El número siete fue dado por San Gregorio
el Grande (Lib. mor. in Job. XXXI, xvii), y se mantuvo por la mayoría de los teólogos de la Edad
Media. Escritores anteriores enumeraban 8 pecados capitales: San Cipriano (De mort., iv); Cassian
(De instit. cænob., v, coll. 5, de octo principalibus vitiis); Columbanus ("Instr. de octo vitiis princip." in
"Bibl. max. vet. patr.", XII, 23); Alcuin (De virtut. et vitiis, xxvii y sgtes.)
El término "capital" no se refiere a la magnitud del pecado sino a que da origen a muchos otros pecados. De acuerdo a Santo Tomás (II-II:153:4) “un vicio capital es aquel que tiene un fin excesivamente deseable de manera tal que en su deseo, un hombre comete muchos pecados todos los
cuales se dice son originados en aquel vicio como su fuente principal”. Lo que se desea o se rechaza en los pecados capitales puede ser material o espiritual, real o imaginario.
1. Soberbia u Orgullo
Consiste en una estima de sí mismo, o amor propio indebido, que busca la atención y el honor y se pone uno en antagonismo con Dios
(Catecismo Iglesia Católica 1866)
Virtud a vencer: Humildad- La virtud moral por la que el hombre reconoce que de si mismo solo tiene la nada y el pecado. Todo es un
don de Dios de quien todos dependemos y a quien se debe toda la gloria. El hombre humilde no aspira a la grandeza personal que el
mundo admira porque ha descubierto que ser hijo de Dios es un valor muy superior. Va tras otros tesoros. No está en competencia. Se
ve a sí mismo y al prójimo ante Dios. Es así libre para estimar y dedicarse al amor y al servicio.
La humildad no solo se opone al orgullo sino también a la auto abyección (auto humillación) en la que se dejaría de reconocer los dones
de Dios y la responsabilidad de ejercitarlos según su voluntad.
2. La Avaricia
Inclinación o deseo desordenado de placeres o de posesiones. Es uno de los pecados capitales, está prohibido por el noveno y décimo
mandamiento. (CIC 2514, 2534)
Virtud a vencer: Generosidad: Dar con gusto de lo propio a los pobres y los que necesiten.
3. La Lujuria
El deseo desordenado por el placer sexual. Los deseos y actos son desordenados cuando no se conforman al propósito divino, el cual
es propiciar el amor mutuo de entre los esposos y favorecer la procreación.
Es un pecado contra el Sexto Mandamiento y es una ofensa contra la virtud de la castidad.
Como vencer la lujuria: Dios bendijo al hombre y a la mujer con atracción mutua. Mientras ambos viven bajo el amor de Dios, sus corazones buscan el amor divino que es ordenado hacia darse buscando ante todo el bien del otro. El placer entonces es algo bueno pero
muy inferior. En comunión con Dios se ama verdaderamente y se respeta a la otra persona como hijo o hija de Dios y no se le tiene
como objeto de placer. En el orden de Dios se puede reconocer la necesidad de la castidad para que el amor sea protegido. Es necesario entonces conocer y obedecer el sentido que Dios ha dado a la sexualidad.
Pero el pecado desordenó la atracción entre hombre y mujer de manera que el deseo carnal tiende a separarse de propósito divino y a
dominar la mente y el corazón. La lujuria crece cuanto mas nos buscamos a nosotros mismos y nos olvidamos de Dios. De esta manera
lo inferior (el deseo carnal) domina a lo superior (el corazón que fue creado para amar). Cuando la lujuria no se rechaza con diligencia,
el sujeto cae presa de sus propios deseos que terminan por dominarle y envilecerle.
La lujuria se vence cuando guardamos la mente pura (lo cual requiere guardarse de miradas, revistas, etc. que incitan a la lujuria) y dedicamos toda nuestra energía a servir a Dios y al prójimo según nuestra vocación. Si nos tomamos en serio nuestra vida en Cristo podremos comprender el gravísimo daño que la lujuria ocasiona y, aunque seamos tentados estaremos dispuestos a luchar y sufrir para
liberarnos. Un ejemplo es San Francisco, quien al ser tentado con lujuria se arrojó a unos espinos. Así logró vencer la tentación.
Virtud a vencer: Castidad Es la virtud que gobierna y modera el deseo del placer sexual según los principios de la fe y la razón. Por
la castidad la persona adquiere dominio de su sexualidad y es capaz de integrarla en una sana personalidad, en la que el amor de Dios
reina sobre todo.

ATTENTION PARISHIONERS:
will have the opportunity to register to our parish the month of August after every Mass. If you
haven’t done so, please consider it.
Why?
It creates a two-fold obligation. On one hand, the pastor is obligated to support the mission needs of the parish. On the other
hand, the individual is obligated to support the mission needs of the parish (religious, social, and ministerial).
When you register a at a particular parish, usually the one you faithfully attend & support, you are declaring your desire to be
part of that Catholic faithful community and your commitment to the life of the parish family. Many people think that because
they attend a parish or grew up there or received their sacraments there automatically makes them members of that parish; this
is not so. To become a member, you must officially sign up/enroll yourself as a member.

How you benefit:
It makes things much easier with regards to: Baptisms Catholic school registrations (especially high school tuition assistance)
Religious Education Weddings Anointing of the sick Communion for the homebound
Funerals Letters of recommendation for Sponsor requests and/or Legal issues Tax Deductions
Misconceptions:
Many young people who have grown and moved away think that they are registered under their parents. This is not the case.
Once you are an adult you must register at the parish you faithfully attend. This means that you must register here if you attend
here.
Previous members who registered at another parish for a while then come back think that they are still registered. If you are not
active (not using your offertory envelopes you receive for your contributions) for more than 6 months you will be inactivated in
our system and will need to call or come by the office to reactivate your membership.
People who receive the Catholic Sun think that they are registered. We do not share the same database as the Catholic Sun.
Therefore you need to formally register.
Have you moved, changed your phone number, had a change in marital status, had
children, etc.? Please stop by the tables outside of the church and update your information after every Mass during the
month of August.

tendrán la oportunidad de registrarse formalmente a la parroquia durante todo el mes de Agosto. Si aun no lo a hecho, favor de pasar a las mesas que estarán afuera de la iglesia y hágalo.
¿Porqué debo registrarme?
Crea una obligación de ida y vuelta. Por una parte, el Pastor está obligado a apoyar las necesidades misioneras de la parroquia.
Por otra, los individuos está obligados también a asistir las necesidades de su parroquia, en el aspecto religioso, social y ministerial.
Cuando te registras en un parroquia de manera particular, por lo regular a la cual acudes de manera fiel para apoyar, estás declarando tu deseo de ser parte de la comunidad de fieles Católicos y te estas comprometiendo con tu familia parroquial. Muchas
personas piensan que por el hecho de asistir a misa a una parroquia y crecer en el área cercana recibiendo los sacramentos, automáticamente se vuelven miembros de esa parroquia, pero no es así. Para hacerte miembro debes de registrarte de manera oficial.
¿Cómo me beneficia a mi?
Hace más sencillos los procesos para:

 Inscripciones en escuelas Católica
 Cartas de recomendación
 Asuntos legales
 Bodas  Unción de los enfermos  Deducción de impuestos
Conceptos erróneos:
Muchas personas que han crecido en un lugar y luego se mudan, creen que han sido registrados por sus padres. Este no es el caso.
Una vez que eres adulto debes de registrarte en la parroquia a la cual acudes de manera regular.
Si no has sido un miembro activo por más de seis meses has sido dado de baja del sistema por lo cual debes de hacer de nuevo el
proceso de registro.
Las personas que reciben el periódico The Catholic Sun piensan que están registradas en su parroquia, cosa que no es cierto.
Se han mudado de hogar? A cambiado su estado civil? Han tenido hijos? Etc. Favor
de pasar a las mesas afuera de la iglesia y actualice so información durante el mes de agosto.
